Chota Gaiter Socks
By Matt Smith
The Chota Gaiter Sock is designed to be worn with Chota
footwear. I wore the socks with both the Chota Quetico Trekker and the
5.10 Canyoneer. I found no compatibility problems with the sock. In it's
most basic form, it is a neoprene sock with a scree collar that fits down
over the cuff of your boot. The seams run along the sides of the bottom,
and I found they did not create any uncomfortable lumps or friction spots.
A tough elastic helps keep the sock up and sand and gravel out.
I wore the socks while hiking two separate canyons and found they kept
my feet warm in the 40-50 degree water. As advertised the scree collar
significantly reduced the amount of debris that found it's way into my
boots. I found the sock much more comfortable than other socks that have
the ream down the middle.
Summary: The Gaiter Sock works well to keep debris from getting into
your boots. Aside from that unique feature it is about the same as other
neoprene socks other manufacturers. At $23.90, they are about the same
price as other neoprene socks.
