MSR Introduces High-End Snowshoe

Rugged Denali Ascent™ excels on uphills

January 1999

Mountain Safety Research has added the Denali Ascent, a beefed-up version of the award-winning Denali, to its snowshoe line. Targeting snowshoers who enjoy steep hills and climbers who depend upon snowshoes for approaches, the Ascent adds steel Saber Teeth, a semi-rigid Stand-Up Binding body, and Televators (heel lifts) to the functional modular design that defines the Denali. There’s no other shoe on the market that offers all these features and modularity for just $149.95. Like the Denali, the Ascent uses a tough one-piece plastic platform in place of traditional aluminum frame and decking. Need more length to stay afloat in soft, deep snow or when wearing a heavy pack? Simply add MSR’s four- or eight-inch extension tails. Full-length steel traction bars provide unparalleled traction on traverses, and durable steel crampons, which pivot on a true hinge, keep your foot in contact with the snow. It’s the Ascent’s added features, however, that make the difference when the going gets tough. Stainless steel Saber Teeth project 3/8” beneath the Traction Bars for a secure grip in hardpack or icy conditions (caution: these are not intended to take the place of crampons); wire Televators, which pop up easily on the rear of the shoe, raise your heel and ease calf strain while climbing. Finally, the semi-rigid Stand-Up Binding adds extra support and has the easiest entry/exit on the market – we call it “fiddle-free.” The binding offers a secure fit for boot sizes 4 to 14. The MSR Denali Ascent is available September 1, 1999. Suggested retail price is $149.95. MSR is well-known in the outdoor market for its commitment to innovation, quality and integrity.
