ARVA Axio Beacon ARVA Axio Beacon
The Axio Beacon is Arva's most advanced avalanche transceiver designed for avid backcountry skiers who strive for the safest gear available. Unlike most beacons, even those with three antennas, the Axio's three antennas work simultaneously to provide a faster, smarter route search. The third antenna folds out of the beacon's housing to maximize its reception, reduce wandering along curved flux lines, and improve multi-burial identifications.Going beyond its unique three-antenna design, the Axio also features marking functions for multiple victim situations. It will alert you when you're leaving the flux line, and need to make a sharp U-turn back to buried victims. There's a motion detector that will switch the beacon's search mode back to transmitting if you go still all the sudden, just in case you get stuck in a second avalanche while searching for victims. Arva also designed this beacon to minimize distortions from phones, heated gloves, and other electronics. The group check feature helps you check your partners' beacons at the trailhead before heading out to avalanche terrain.

So is having gear you can rely on, so count on the Ortovox S1+ Avalanche Scanner/Tranceiver during practice or real-life recoveries. This digital, triple-antenna beacon immediately scans the debris field, showing you how many victims were buried, their orientation in reference to you, and the distance to each signal. Should you be buried, the S1+ features Smart Antenna Technology which analyzes the position of the antennas and automatically switches to the best transmitting antenna, which boots range 43% more than other devices on the market (with the exception of Ortovix' 3+), no matter what search device your companion is using. Its illuminated 360 real-time display gives you detailed instructions on what to do. Bearing lines, direction arrow, and distance information lead you along the fastest route to the strongest transmission signal. Pieps DSP Pro Ice Beacon Pieps DSP Pro Ice Beacon
Most triple antenna beacons are suitable for casual backcountry ski tours, but you'll want the best in the business if you're looking at serious mountaineering objectives like Denali, Teton, or multi-day, guided missions. When it comes to Pieps products, the DSP Pro Ice Beacon is undoubtedly the best option for all mountaineering pros who expect serious performance without compromise. Pieps tested this beacon to provide an exact signal ranging at a ridiculous 60-meter receiving range. That means guides and advanced mountaineers will have the best tools Pieps has to offer when the worst happens in high-altitude environments. Going beyond the performance of the actual beacon, Pieps integrated multiple functions into the Pro Ice for extra convenience on every adventure. There are extensive self-check modes to make sure your beacon is working properly at all times, and its group check is helpful for the start of any tour. The beacon automatically switches from search to send if the beacon remains motionless for a time, which is crucial if you're caught in an avalanche while searching for a buried victim. The automatic antenna-switch features means the beacon will switch antennas if the primary antenna experiences any faults due to external electronics or metal disturbances. Designed to keep things simple and efficient, the Pro Ice has a distance readout, a directional arrow, multiple-burial indicators, and a battery-life display, which provide all the necessary information without cluttering the screen. The Pro Ice is also compatible with the Pieps iProbe to reduce search time even further, particularly in a multiple-burial scenario. Available software updates keep your beacon up-to-date, and it will work with older beacons regardless of the software installed. With an exception to the DSP Pro, the DSP Pro Ice is the only beacon that has multiple frequency measurements so you can scan for more than just beacons; for example, you can scan for the dog-friend...

Pieps Micro Beacon Pieps Micro Beacon
The Micro Beacon is Pieps' smallest, lightest, and most intuitive triple antenna beacon for backcountry touring. Just because it's the smallest doesn't mean it's the least safe; in fact, the Micro Beacon boasts a three-antenna design with a moderate range of 40 meters. Despite a small size, the Micro's display is as big as Pieps' other beacons for easy reading. Its extensive self-check feature includes an auto-antenna switch that will automatically switch to another antenna if the transmitting antenna experiences a fault after group checks. The Micro Beacon also switches from search to send automatically if the beacon stops moving for a certain amount of time, in the event you get buried while searching for victims. Unique to the Micro Beacon are the vibration and Bluetooth compatibility features. Bluetooth compatibility allows you to update, register, and check the beacon through various settings. The Micro Beacon vibrates in search mode at the initial detection so you can focus on the terrain instead of the display. Of course, all of these features are pretty useless without training, so take the essential courses before hitting the backcountry with this beacon.

Pieps Pieps DSP Pro Beacon Pieps Pieps DSP Pro Beacon
It's tough to beat the odds when you spend a significant amount of time in avalanche terrain. There's a whole lot you can do to minimize your chances of being caught, and while an avalanche beacon won't prevent accidents, cautious decision making, regular practice, and familiarity with your beacon will increase your chances of being found or finding a victim before it's too late. The Pieps DSP Pro Beacon is designed for skiers and snowboarders who spend serious time in relatively high-risk areas and need a beacon that's fast, accurate, and easy to use. The Pro has a simple two-button interface that gives you the only options you need for fast and effective performance (send, search, scan, and flag). Just slide the side switch to toggle between transmitting and receiving and mark burials using the flag button. When you've flagged a signal, the three antennas automatically switch to the nearest unflagged signal for streamlined searching. The Pro has a 60-meter circular search range and a smart transmitter that, during a burial, automatically switches to the antenna with the clearest broadcasting range, minimizing dead spots and signal traps that can drastically reduce a beacon's effectiveness. It also ensures that its signal isn't overlapping with any other transmitting beacons, minimizing misleading signals and indirect search paths. Designed to keep things simple and efficient, the Pro has a distance readout, a directional arrow, multiple burial indicators, and a battery life display, which provide all the necessary information without cluttering the screen. The Pro is also compatible with the Pieps iProbe to reduce search time even further, and it has a built-in inclinometer to help you accurately assess slope angles. There are also available software updates to keep your beacon up to date, and it will work with older beacons regardless of the software installed. Please remember that this device is NOT a guarantee that you will survive an avalanche; get educat...

Pieps Pieps DSP Sport Avalanche Beacon Pieps Pieps DSP Sport Avalanche Beacon
All of sudden, it seems, the backcountry is as accessible and popular as the taco joint down the street, and while sketchy tacos have their dangers (don't get the pescado especial), you're much more likely to get into a serious accident working your way down a gnarly line than sitting in a corner booth with a cerveza and a pile of carnitas. The Pieps DSP Sport Avalanche Beacon can't prevent accidents, but it will increase your chance of being rescued, or of rescuing someone else, when things go from fun to scary in the blink of an eye. As its name suggests, the DSP Sport is a trimmed-down version of the DSP Pro, with a simple one-button interface that gives you only three options--send, search, and flag. Just slide the side switch to toggle between transmitting and receiving, and mark burials using the flag button. When you've flagged a signal, the three antennas automatically switch to the nearest unflagged signal for streamlined searching. The Sport has a 50m circular search range and a smart transmitter that, during a burial, automatically switches to the antenna with the clearest broadcasting range, minimizing dead spots and signal traps that can drastically reduce a beacon's effectiveness. A simple, clear display makes the Sport easy to learn and even easier to use. It has a distance readout, a directional arrow, multiple-burial indicators, and a battery-life display, which provide all the necessary information without cluttering the screen. The Sport is also compatible with the Pieps Iprobe II to help reduce search time, particularly in a multiple-burial scenario. There are also available software updates to keep your beacon up-to-date. Please remember, a beacon is NOT a guarantee that you will survive an avalanche; get educated, learn to use your tools, travel with trusted partners, and be smart out there.
