Niner BSB 9 RDO Cyclocross Frameset - 2016 Niner BSB 9 RDO Cyclocross Frameset - 2016
Niner revisited the world of Blood, Sweat, and Beers, namesake of the BSB 9 RDO, to update the race-ready frameset for the upcoming cyclocross season. The already stiff, light frame got stronger with the addition of 12 x 142mm rear thru axle; but otherwise, Niner was so pleased with the functionality of the design that it didn't feel the need to make any other changes to it -- aside from some new graphics, of course. The BSB 9 RDO is built for the rowdy, obstacle-embracing 'cross set, so it's expected to exhibit stiffness and strength on difficult terrain while remaining light. Niner achieved this balance by using its Carbon Compaction System to mold the frame, fine-tuning the placement of carbon and eliminating any material that didn't directly contribute to the frame's sharp handling or lateral stiffness. The process involves laying-up the carbon around rigid foam molds, which Niner claims provide a more consistent shape than traditional bladder molds. At the end of the process, the inside of the tubes is as flawless as the outside, and the BSB 9 RDO is lighter than comparable frames. The 530g, thru-axle fork is also fully carbon, and it borrows much of its design from the rigid fork on Niner's Air 9 RDO hardtail with a slightly flatter profile to better adapt it to cyclocross. Don't deny the BSB 9 RDO the pleasure of 'cross racing. With its steep head and seat tube angles and the pedal clearance of a high bottom bracket, the frame was made for it. Niner's roots in mountain bikes mean it's no surprise that the frame was built for disc brakes that offer plenty of clearance during tight cornering, and it's also compatible with internally routed mechanical or electronic drivetrains. The frame is finished with a playful nod to cyclocross's often irreverent attitude: When you shoulder the BSB 9 to navigate a steep run-up, astute fellow racers behind you will get some encouragement from Niner's signature admonition to "Pedal, damn it," which is inscribed on the bo...

Niner RLT 9 4-Star Ultegra Hydro Complete Bike - 2017 Niner RLT 9 4-Star Ultegra Hydro Complete Bike - 2017
Whether you're ripping buttery singletrack, packing up for a multi-day gravel adventure, or toeing the line at a cyclocross race, the 2017 Niner RLT 9 4-Star Ultegra Hydro Complete Bike boasts the versatility to cover it all. Featuring what Niner dubs "fire road geometry," the RLT is a little bit slacker, longer, and has a lower bottom bracket than its cyclocross race-bred sibling, the BSB 9. That makes it both agile enough for short, technical bursts and comfortable enough for days of adventuring over less-travels pathways. The 3-star build comes kitted out with Shimano's much loved Ultegra drivetrain, powerful hydraulic brakes, and a versatile Stan's NoTubes wheelset that's built to handle a wide range of tubeless tire pressures. The RLT 9's tube set borrows heavily from the one used on Niner's aluminum AIR 9 frame. The tapered head tube accommodates a matching tapered fork, which is unsurprisingly similar to Niner's award-winning RDO mountain fork. The dropouts have integrated rack and fender mounts, which only add to your setup options, and the burly replaceable hanger means that even if a catastrophic derailleur-related incident ends your ride, your RLT will live to roll another day. The hydro-formed tubes are designed to neutralize chatter, helping the RLT to maintain a smooth ride. Additionally, it makes the frame much stronger than it would be had round tubes been employed. And to enhance the smooth ride, the RLT has a 27. 2mm diameter seatpost. The combination of the smaller diameter and Niner's vibration dampening carbong post means that you won't be getting beat up as much as you'd expect, especially on washboard roads.

Niner RLT 9 Frameset - 2017 Niner RLT 9 Frameset - 2017
As the bike industry barrels further down the road of specialized steeds and situation-specific frames, Niner's 2016 RLT 9 Frameset stands out as a veritable jack of all trades that's a blast to ride in almost any terrain. It's built, as referenced in its initials, to take the Road Less Traveled. Featuring what Niner dubs "fire road geometry," the RLT 9 is a bit slacker, longer, and has a lower bottom bracket that it's race-bred cousin, Niner's BSB 9. This combination lends the RLT 9 more stability and comfort over rough roads while still maintaining the agility to rocket through a 'cross course should you decided to take a break from adventuring and toe a start line. If you're looking at the RLT and getting deja vu, it may be because the tube set borrows heavily from the one used on Niner's aluminum AIR 9 frame. The tapered head tube accommodates a matching tapered fork, which is unsurprisingly similar to Niner's beloved RDO mountain fork. The dropouts have integrated rack and fender mounts, which only add to your setup options, and the burly replaceable hanger means that even if a catastrophic derailleur-related incident ends your ride, your RLT will live to roll another day. The hydro-formed tubes are designed to neutralize chatter, helping the RLT maintain a smooth ride. Additionally, the shaping process makes the frame much stronger than it would be had round tubes been employed. And to enhance the smooth ride, the RLT has a 27. 2mm diameter seatpost, which adds an element of give to absorb bumps and chatter. It's designed to be paired with Niner's RDO post, which has extra flex built in. The combination of the smaller diameter and more forgiving post means that you won't be getting beat up as much as you'd expect, especially on washboard roads. This frame kit includes the requisite Cane Creek IS42/IS52 headset. The 73mm PF30 bottom bracket shell accommodates today's larger-spindled cranks as well as being backward compatible through the use of adapters. ...

Niner RLT 9 RDO 3-Star Rival Complete Bike - 2017 Niner RLT 9 RDO 3-Star Rival Complete Bike - 2017
Eschewing national sanctioning bodies for miles upon miles of desolate gravel roads and embracing self-supported autonomy doesn't mean you have to give up your roadie-inspired love of speedy carbon. Niner's new addition to its Road Less Traveled lineup, the 2017 RLT 9 RDO 3-Star Rival Complete Bike, lets you have it all with lightweight carbon construction, comfortable positioning, and a snappy rear triangle that dances through turns. As expected from an RLT, this bike is a bit slacker, longer, and lower than its 'cross racing cousin, Niner's BSB 9, but also sees a few tweaks compared to its aluminum and steel RLT siblings that boost its snappy profile. Shorter stays tighten up the rear triangle and work in tandem with a lower bottom bracket for a ride that's confidently responsive. This combination lends the RLT 9 more stability and comfort over rough roads while still maintaining the agility to rocket out of turns. The dropouts have integrated rack and fender mounts, which only add to your setup options, and the replaceable hanger means that even if a catastrophic derailleur-related incident ends your ride, your RLT will live to roll another day. Niner uses its Race Day Optimized (RDO) Carbon Compaction System to mold this RLT's frame, fine tuning the placement of carbon and eliminating any material that doesn't contribute to the frame's structural soundness and ride quality. To further enhance the smooth ride, the RLT has a 27. 2mm seatpost, which adds an element of give to absorb bumps and chatter so you won't be getting beat up as much as you'd expect, especially on washboard roads.

Unsanctioned gravel races have seen a massive influx of disenchanted road racers fleeing from the current state of sanctioned events in search of a more welcoming competitive venue. In addition to boosting numbers, this shift in participation has introduced a demand for high end, carbon fiber race machines that can handle the unique abuse and long-range format of gravel events. For those of us looking to make the jump to gravel, Niner's 2017 RLT 9 RDO 4-Star Ultegra Complete Bike blends lightweight carbon construction, endurance geometry, and responsive handling that'll have you comfortably ticking off the multi-surface miles. Niner RLT 9 RDO 5-Star Ultegra Di2 Complete Bike - 2017 Niner RLT 9 RDO 5-Star Ultegra Di2 Complete Bike - 2017
After a few too many years of repeating road race courses and uncountable circles in boring business park criteriums, it's time to take a break from the pavement and tackle some finish lines on the road less traveled. But all that time on the road has set some pretty high standards for lightweight frame construction and instilled a no-compromise approach to what you need from a race bike. The good news is that Niner answers the call for top-tier gravel steeds with its 2017 RLT 9 RDO 5-Star Ultegra Di2 Complete Bike. It channels the lightweight carbon construction, precise Shimano Di2 drivetrain, and dreamy ENVE wheels we've come to expect in race-worthy road rides, but the whole thing is wrapped in a durable all-road package that's dead set on speed no matter what surfaces the event promoter sets in front of you. As expected from an RLT, this bike is a bit slacker, longer, and lower than its race-bred cousin, Niner's BSB 9, but also sees a few tweaks compared to its aluminum and steel RLT siblings that boost its snappy profile. Shorter stays tighten up the rear triangle and work in tandem with a lower bottom bracket for a confidently responsive ride experience. Featuring Niner's renowned RDO carbon fiber, this RLT breaks from its aluminum and steel roots to bring light, stiff, carbon speed to your next gravel adventure with endurance geometry designed to get you comfortably to the day's destination. As expected from an RLT (short for Road Less Traveled), this bike is a bit slacker, longer, and lower than its 'cross-specific cousin, Niner's BSB 9, but also sees a few tweaks compared to its aluminum and steel RLT siblings that imbue it with slightly snappier handling without sacrificing comfort. Shorter stays tighten up the rear triangle and work in tandem with a lower bottom bracket for a confidently responsive ride experience. This combination lends the RLT more stability and comfort over rough roads while still maintaining the agility to rocket out of turns and carve loose, sketchy descents. Integrated rack and fender mounts on the frame and fork provide a versatile array of setup options, and the replaceable hanger means that even if you take a less than graceful, drive-side, derailleur compromising dive, your RLT will live to roll another day.Niner uses its Race Day Optimized Carbon Compaction System to mold this RLT's frame, fine tuning the placement of carbon and eliminating any material that doesn't contribute to the frame's structural soundness and ride quality. Niner RLT 9 Steel 2-Star Apex 1 Complete Bike - 2017 Niner RLT 9 Steel 2-Star Apex 1 Complete Bike - 2017
It's no secret that the RLT 9 Steel is one of our favorite gravel bikes, and we're excited to see it back for 2017 with some updated colorways and that legendarily smooth and responsive steel ride. The RLT 9 Steel 2-Star Apex 1 Complete Bike is an adventurer at heart, and takes its Road Less Traveled moniker seriously with a build kit that embodies the all-road ethos perhaps more than any other ride. SRAM's economical but no less functional Apex one-by drivetrain gets the nod, eliminating the front derailleur and any mechanical worries it may have brought with it out on the road. The 42-tooth front chainring and 11-42 tooth cassette don't skimp on gears though, providing a wide range of options worthy of all but the steepest of mountain grades. Its 35mm tires are the ideal starting point to manage everything from pavement to light singletrack, with frame clearance to handle tires up to 44mm in width should the adventure call for burlier fare. The frame's geometry is a compromise between Niner's mountain frames and the aggressive disposition of the 'cross-specific BSB frameset. Compared to the latter, the RLT 9 features a longer chainstay, a lower bottom bracket, and a more relaxed head tube angle. This translates into a lower center of gravity that still affords clearance over obstacles and while cornering, and a wider wheelbase for stability over rough roads and long miles. In our own test rides of the geometry, we found that it eats up washboard and is nimble enough for mellow singletrack, so, if you're keen on making the RLT a durable singletrack speedster with zero suspension, then throw on some knobby tires and get to it. This bike's only limit is you.The RLT 9 Steel does make an admirable concession to carbon by including a Carbon RDO fork to further soak up and smooth out road vibrations. The fork is no delicate road race specimen, though-- as evidenced by its trail-inspired 15mm thru-axle anchor--and the inclusion of rack mounts means it also doesn't shy a...

Niner RLT 9 Steel 4-Star Ultegra Complete Bike - 2017 Niner RLT 9 Steel 4-Star Ultegra Complete Bike - 2017
Carbon frames have their place in aggressive race venues and the quest for marginal gains, but when we're out in the wilderness in search of serene scenery and gravel-filled adventure, no frame material fits the bill quite like the springy responsiveness and durability of steel. And perhaps no bike embodies the Road Less Traveled ethos more thoroughly than Niner's RLT 9 Steel 4-Star Ultegra Complete Bike, which has Reynolds 853 steel tubing, a Shimano Ultegra drivetrain, and just the right balance of carbon accessories to soften the bumps without overshadowing that prized steel ride. It lives to escape the concrete jungle for the dirt-strewn wilds of coastal mountain ranges, never ending seas of prairie, and country B-roads that may never see the attention of a grader. The frame's geometry is a compromise between Niner's mountain frames and the aggressive disposition of the 'cross-specific BSB frameset. Compared to the latter, the RLT 9 features longer chainstays, a lower bottom bracket, and a more relaxed head tube angle. This translates into a lower center of gravity that still affords clearance over obstacles and while cornering, a wider wheelbase for stability, and tire clearance that lets you plush-out to the tune of 1. 75in (just over 44mm). In our own test rides of the geometry, we found that it eats up washboard and is nimble enough for mellow singletrack, so, if you're keen on making the RLT a durable singletrack speedster with zero suspension, then throw on some knobby tires and get to it. This bike's only limit is you. Despite Niner's love of steel, the RLT 9 Steel does make a reasonable concession to carbon by including snappy CX Carbon wheels, carbon cockpit components, and a Carbon RDO fork to further soak up and smooth out road vibrations. The fork is no delicate road race specimen, though--as evidenced by its 15mm thru-axle anchor--and the inclusion of rack mounts means it also doesn't shy away from carrying its own weight. Putting a Pinarello through its paces on the 'cross course might not be for everyone, but if you're going to do 'cross, you want to do it right. The Pinarello FCX Frameset would wilt if it were kept inside, only being ridden on smooth roads under clear skies. Bred with signature Pinarello luxury and reinforced for dirt, mud, and obstacle-filled racing, the FCX begs for season after season of rowdy 'cross racing. Designate it as your next racing steed if you want to experience the uncompromising feel of a Pinarello on the dirt track. A thoughtfully chosen carbon modulus equips the FCX to respond when you're fighting for position around tight corners, without remaining so rigid that you feel every bump on the course. It's shaped in an aggressive, race-oriented geometry that should remind you of a Pinarello road frame, albeit with slightly greater tire clearance and a longer wheelbase for better tracking through technical spots. The heat tube angle and stack height also lend stability in the tough stuff, be it a series of obstacles or rocky singletrack, as well as comfort. Escort the FCX out on a training ride without worrying that it'll force you back home in discomfort when you try and build endurance with some longer rides. Asymmetry fittingly returns once again as an enduring theme of Pinarello frames on the FCX, as the brand expertly adds grams to the areas of the frame subjected to the most wear. Spin the cranks and push power through the drive side knowing that it's been fortified to withstand race day bursts of power, while the Integral System Onda tapered head tube calmly helps you cut through the pack. As it's a Pinarello, the FCX comes with added touches like internal cable routing and compatibility with either mechanical or electronic drivetrains, giving you the option to customize your frame with exactly what you want.

Raleigh RX 2.0 Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017 Raleigh RX 2.0 Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017
While smaller statured riders applauded the Raleigh RXW for its range of sizes to accommodate those on the shorter end of the spectrum, the taller riders among us roared approval of its counterpart, the 2017 RX 2. 0 Complete Cyclocross Bike and its sizing options that include riders up to 6-feet, 5-inches tall. Its light and durable aluminum construction keeps costs affordable, while a SRAM one-by drivetrain and TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes make this a race-ready bike that's also chomping at the bit to tackle all-road adventures. The RX 2. 0's sizing range spans from 52cm up to 62cm and encompasses recommended rider heights from 5-feet, 4-inches up to the previously mentioned, towering 6-feet, 5-inch heights. Compared to its RXW counterpart, the RX 2. 0 features a slightly higher stand over height for a more traditionally flat top tube angle. The RX 2. 0's head tube is a little shorter and just a hair steeper, giving this bike a slightly more aggressive stance for snappy responsiveness and confident handling. For riders falling within the crossover sizes of these two models, these tweaks provide welcome options to best match varying levels of flexibility and positioning preferences. It's worth noting that both the RX 2. 0 and the RXW enjoy nearly identical build spec, which means choosing between the two comes down to your stature, geometry preferences, and ride style, with no penalty in componentry on either side of the scale. The main difference in the spec sheets is the chainring--where the RXW gets a climb-friendly 38-tooth ring, the RX 2. 0 utilizes a more race-oriented 42-tooth option, which makes it a powerhouse off the start line, with the versatility to also tackle moderate terrain and gravel excursions.

Raleigh RXC Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017 Raleigh RXC Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017
The latest version of the RXC Complete Cyclocross Bike really needs no introduction. The previous model became a staple at start lines because it combined the pedigree of one of 'cross' most storied brands with the early adapter innovation of twin thru-axles. Now, a host of upgrades further cements the CXR's status, including shorter chainstays, flat-mount disc brake mounts, and a threaded bottom bracket. The addition of a threaded bottom bracket deserves special callout for the added precision and reduced creaking, popping, and wear. This added durability--along with the future-proof flat-mount brakes--highlights the RXC's intended use: cyclocross racing for years to come. The RXC has more aggressive stack but a slightly longer wheelbase than the RX 2. 0, dimensions that recommend it both for the tight quarters and frantic accelerations of 'cross and the abuse of the new breed of gravel races. The riders on Raleigh Clement take this recommendation to heart, relying on the RXC frameset throughout the year for all manner of mixed-terrain events. Despite those slight alterations in geometry, the RXC and RX 2. 0 remain fairly similar in profile. The real difference is in materials, with the former's full carbon fiber construction. You know the benefits of carbon (stiffer, lighter, more aesthetically pleasing joints), so we'll jump straight to Raleigh's approach to the material. Raleigh eschews monocoque builds in favor of Direct Connect, which involves first making the carbon tubes and then building the frame in a jig. In addition to satisfying our retro fetish (Who doesn't love seeing frames in jigs'), this process allows Raleigh to create a precisely targeted lay-up schedule that layers the right types of carbon in the right places. Rather than juggling the joints and overlap of different materials, Direct Connect lets the engineers focus on the frame's different areas separately. These tubes are joined with a high-modulus overwrap that secures the tubes and creat...

Raleigh RXM Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017 Raleigh RXM Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017
The 2017 Raleigh RXM Complete Cyclocross Bike is a modern answer to the whirlwind of new materials and ever more expensive cyclocross setups that seem to forget that steel is a favorite for a reason. Basking in tradition, the RXM, or RXMetal as Raleigh dubs it it, brings a mix of springy responsiveness, lively handing, and unrivaled durability that those high-priced plastic bikes can only dream of achieving. Built with Shimano's workhorse 105 drivetrain and TRP mechanical disc brakes, this bike is ready to jump off the line and tackle nearly any terrain. Modern geometry gives the RXM the versatility to expand beyond the 'cross course. The 72-degree head angle, 73-degree seat angle (based on the 54cm model), and a 65mm bottom bracket make a geometry that falls neatly between traditional Euro-'cross high and road-racing low, catering well to American-style 'cross courses. Off the course, it's just as confident and composed grinding over gravel fire roads or exploring mellow singletrack. The RXM does make one admirable concession to carbon by including Raleigh's carbon fiber cross fork. Its blend of stiffness, a thru axle, and vibration dampening prowess lend an added dose of comfort and confident handling on any terrain. As an added touch, rack and fender mounts let you quickly outfit your bike for all manner of weather and travel capacity.

The 2017 Ridley X-Night 40 Disc Rival 1 Complete Cyclocross Bike comes prepared for it all with a blend of technology and classic design to tackle the snow, sleet, rain, or random hot and sunny days of a given 'cross season. Ridley kits this build out with SRAM's workhorse one-by Rival 1 drivetrain and powerful hydraulic disc brakes for an affordable package that doesn't skimp on the race-worthy functionality. A 42t chainring pairs with an 11-32t cassette to provide exceptional mid-range gearing options suitable for almost any terrain. To round things out, a set of DT Swiss R24 Spline DB tubeless-ready wheels come wrapped with Clement's versatile MXP tires. The X-Knight is made from 24t high-modulus carbon fiber that seamlessly transfers power into forward motion while soaking up jarring vibrations. Internal cable routing gets the cables out of the way for easy shouldering on run-ups and un-rideable muddy sections. Race-specific European cyclocross geometry pairs with wide tire clearance to create a frame that can handle everything from dusty, hardpacked SoCal dirt to the rain soaked courses of the upper East Coast. The X-Night's fork boasts a few little details to increase durability and just make life easier. The Oryx Disc carbon fiber fork utilizes a 12mm thru-axle for a solid ride, with a barely perceptible asymmetry to counter the torsional forces applied to the left fork leg during braking. Stainless steel inserts at the dropouts protect the carbon from damage, and a scuff plate on the inner left fork legs protects the surface from rogue discs during hurried wheel changes in the pit. Less wear and tear leads to a longer fork lifespan, so you can look forward to many seasons of fun on this bike.

Ridley X-Night Disc Cyclocross Frameset - 2017 Ridley X-Night Disc Cyclocross Frameset - 2017
Though American cyclocross bikes are skewing ever more to the longer, slacker gravel side of things, Ridley's latest X-Night Disc Cyclocross Frameset proves that the European 'cross bike is alive and well in the elite CX fields of Flanders. Compared to the SL version, the standard X-Night gains between 100 and 200g, depending on size; despite that weight gain, though, the X-Night has the same pedigree, making it ideal for tight, technical courses and muddy or sandy terrain. We'll get into the reasons behind the weight difference a little later, but for now, we'll dwell on the X-Night's most important asset: the geometry. Compared to most American 'cross bikes (indeed, most 'cross bikes, period), the X-Night is tight, steep, and high, so it's better equipped to handle the claustrophobic hairpins and muddy days that tend to define Flemish cyclocross. It helps avoid pedal strikes while pressing the gas in corners, so it keeps the pressure on when the course is punchy, but it does tend sacrifice pure speed on wide-open courses. Despite that compact footprint, the frame's generous main triangle still provides plenty of room to comfortably shoulder the bike on Belgian stairs. The weight difference with the SL stems from the fact that, as with last year's model, 2017's X-Night is built with 24T carbon fiber instead of a curated blend of 30T and 24T. The shorthand explanation is that, since Ridley omits the higher-modulus 30T carbon, key areas of power transfer and structural integrity require more material in order to hit the same stiffness numbers. More material means more grams of weight--and, well, you can see where we're going with this. The frame is still just as responsive, but there is more mass to propel. Despite the different frame material, the standard X-Night is built with the same fork as the SL. Ridley officially bestows its Belgian benediction on disc brakes with the quick-release version of its Oryx Disc carbon fiber fork. The Oryx Disc is built with ...

Ridley X-Night SL 10 Disc Force 1 Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017 Ridley X-Night SL 10 Disc Force 1 Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017
A staple in the European and American cyclocross scenes, Ridley bikes have been a common sight atop world championship podiums for over a decade. The 2017 X-Night SL 10 Disc Force 1 Complete Cyclocross Bike brings that winning tradition to your doorstep with top-tier design and componentry built to compete at even the highest levels of the sport. This particular build boasts SRAM's venerable Force 1 drivetrain and powerful Force 1 hydraulic disc brakes for precise gear changes and confident stopping power. A 42t chainring pairs with an 11-28t cassette to provide exceptional mid-range gearing options suitable for almost any terrain. To round things out, a set of 4ZA Cirrus Pro T30 rims laced to DT Swiss 350 hubs roll wrapped in a set of versatile Clement MXP Tubular tires for solid traction across a wide variety of course conditions. Ridley builds the X-Knight SL from a mix of 30T and 24T high modulus carbon fiber. This is similar to that found in its cobble-stone conquering Fenix frameset, so it sops up fatiguing vibrations and tenaciously transfers every watt into forward motion for a fast yet cushy ride worthy of even the harshest race conditions. Its internal cable routing makes for a clean, streamlined look, with the added bonus of eliminating pesky cable pinches when shouldering your bike up a steep wall of limestone stairs. Classic European cyclocross geometry gives the X-Night SL a fast, aggressive feel while its wide tire clearance accommodates rubber for tackling everything from snowy Northeast mud to dry West Coast dirt and challenge for the win. At the front, Ridley outfits the X-Knight SL with its Oryx Disc carbon fiber fork, which incorporates a few details to reduce stress out on the course. It boasts a 12mm thru-axle for a solid, stable ride even when navigating tight, twisty elevation changes and a barely noticeable asymmetry that counters the extra torsional forces applied to the left fork leg when scrubbing speed. The dropouts include stainle...

Ridley fashions the X-Knight SL from a mix of 30 and 24t high-modulus carbon fiber. It's a similar blend to that found in its cobble-conquering Fenix, so you can rest assured it's capable of sopping-up fatiguing vibrations and tenaciously transferring every watt into forward motion. It's a fast yet cushy ride worthy of even the harshest race conditions. Its internal cable routing makes for a clean, streamlined look with the added bonus of eliminating pesky cable pinches when shouldering your bike. Classic European cyclocross geometry gives the X-Night SL a fast, aggressive feel while its wide tire clearance gives it the versatility to tackle everything from sloppy mud to dry grass. At the front, Ridley outfits the X-Knight SL with its Oryx Disc carbon fiber fork. It features a 12mm thru-axle for a solid, stable ride and a barely noticeable asymmetry that counters the extra torsional forces applied to the left fork leg when scrubbing speed. The dropouts include stainless steel inserts to protect the carbon from scratches and a scuff plate on the inside of the left fork leg fends off errant discs during frantic, mid-race wheel changes to keep the fork free of unwanted wear. This means more fun in the mud, and less time worrying about the integrity of your bike's front end.

Ridley X-Night SL Disc Cyclocross Frameset - 2017 Ridley X-Night SL Disc Cyclocross Frameset - 2017
We've been able to spend a lot of time on Ridley's road bikes, and we've certainly enjoyed them, but the Flemish brand's real pedigree lies in cyclocross. The brand is a Belgian staple; the sport is a Belgian obsession--the connection is a given. That means that, as Ridley's flagship 'cross model, the X-Night SL Disc Cyclocross Frameset is shaped by the traditions at the heart of European cyclocross. If you're after a gravel bike, then the X-Trail has the big footprint and borderline XC geometry you're looking for. The X-Night SL, on the other hand, is a pure Euro' 'cross, through-and-through. A cursory comparison between the X-Trail, a gravel adventure sled, and the X-Night SL proves that point. The X-Night is much more compact with a slightly steeper head tube and a drastically shorter wheelbase. It's also got a higher bottom bracket, which adds to the immediate responsiveness and makes for more generous clearance. Despite that compact footprint, the frame's generous main triangle still provides plenty of room to comfortably shoulder the bike on Belgian stairs. The classic European cyclocross geometry gives the X-Night SL a fast, aggressive feel, but it's paired with a non-traditional, wide tire clearance. This adapts it for tackling everything the New World can throw at it, ranging from snowy Northeast mud to dry West Coast dirt. As with the previous generation, Ridley builds the X-Knight SL from a mix of 30T and 24T high modulus carbon fiber. This is similar to the blend found in the cobble-stone conquering Fenix frameset ridden in Roubaix and Flanders, so it sops up fatiguing vibrations and tenaciously transfers every watt into forward motion for a fast yet cushy ride worthy of even the harshest race conditions. Its internal cable routing makes for a clean, streamlined look, with the added bonus of eliminating pesky cable pinches when shouldering your bike up a steep wall of limestone stairs. At the front, Ridley officially bestows its Belgian benediction ...

Santa Cruz Bicycles Stigmata Carbon CC Cyclocross Frameset - 2017 Santa Cruz Bicycles Stigmata Carbon CC Cyclocross Frameset - 2017
While rolling through the parking area of nearly any American cross race venue over the past year, we'd inevitably encounter at least one (often times many) eye-catchingly bright, ENVE-bedecked Stigmata. For 2017, Santa Cruz Bicycles brings back its standout Stigmata Carbon CC Cyclocross Frameset with updated colorways to fuel your 'cross racing and all-road dreams. Underneath the aesthetics, this version of the Stigmata sports Santa Cruz's top-shelf CC carbon lay-up, which delivers robust strength and stiffness alongside lightweight efficiency. Up front, the Stigmata CC Cyclocross Fork uses this same high-end carbon for uncompromising stiffness and strength when you need it most. A modern geometry places the Stigmata Carbon CC solidly in contention with the herd of high-end 'cross bike options, with a 72-degree head tube angle, 73. 5-degree seat tube angle (based on 56cm model), and a 69mm bottom bracket drop that falls neatly between Euro-'cross high and road-racing low and caters well to American-style cross courses. Its stable geometry also allows for versatility beyond barriers and tape fencing; it's just as confident and composed grinding out long stretches on gravel back roads or exploring light-duty singletrack. While cross racing imposes limitations on tire width, venturing off the course opens up myriad possibilities of plush. With this in mind, Santa Crux designs the Stigmata to accept tires up to 41mm in width, allowing you to drop the pressure (especially when running tubeless) for a more comfortable ride through rougher terrain. Conversely, toss on a set of skinny road tires to throw down on the local group ride or noodle through the city on a Sunday social. Thru-axles at the front and rear add poise and confidence for better tracking across rutted-out backroads and gravel-strewn surfaces. Add in the ability to accept 140 or 160mm discs, and you get a sprightly ride that also slows down in a hurry when you need it to, no matter how mucky or wet t...

Santa Cruz Bicycles Stigmata Carbon CC Force CX1 Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017 Santa Cruz Bicycles Stigmata Carbon CC Force CX1 Complete Cyclocross Bike - 2017
While the Stigmata is known for its versatility across terrain ranging from gravel to grass to smooth singletrack excursions, there's no doubt that the 2017 Santa Cruz Bicycles Stigmata Carbon CC Force CX1 Complete Cyclocross Bike is also built to throw down amidst the barriers, mud, and cowbell-fueled melee that is a cyclocross race. Storck T.I.X. Pro Cyclocross Frameset - 2017 Storck T.I.X. Pro Cyclocross Frameset - 2017
By now, it's expected that a frameset emblazoned with Storck's logo is going to be ridiculously light, and the 2017 T. I. X. Pro Cyclocross Frameset is no exception. For riders looking for a unique, high end steed that can push beyond the boundaries of pavement to gravel, packed dirt, and the occasional local cross race, the T. I. X. is right up your alley. It begs to go fast, and Storck's proven stiffness-to-weight expertise makes it a bike that, with the right engine, displays remarkable energy across the challenging conditions of all-road adventuring. Storck shapes the T. I. X. Pro with carefully layered unidirectional carbon fiber to create a frame with a notably low claimed weight of just 940g. The featherweight T. I. X. frame is constructed with Storck's hallmark Directional Depending Stiffness design, which involves shaping transverse-oval tubes in a carbon layup to equip the frame to hit muddy ruts and uneven terrain without sacrificing expert handling. This balance of rigidity and comfort means the T. I. X. Pro can hold lines and absorb fatiguing chatter while maintaining a ride quality that doesn't feel painfully rigid. The T. I. X. Pro receives its own unidirectional carbon fork design as well, the Storck Pro Fork. The Pro is specifically fine-tuned to complement the frame's adept handling and enable you to take advantage of the T. I. X.'s eager acceleration without sacrificing precision. Storck does this by engineering the fork to flex when forces are applied from the trail or course, but the inclusion of a thru-axle means it won't yield under braking forces, resulting in steadfast control with some added smoothness. It's worth noting that the T. I. X. Pro utilizes a front 9 x 100mm thru-axle and rear 10 x 135mm thru-axle combination. It's a unique design choice in comparison to the more standardized 12 or 15mm front and 12 x 142mm rear combo, so you'll need to do some research on available end caps to make sure your favorite wheels are compatible ...
