7mesh Industries Northwoods Jacket - Men's 7mesh Industries Northwoods Jacket - Men's
Spring brings with it a newfound freedom from layers as the snow melts and high mountain roads reappear. We've all been tempted to set out on an early April ride armed with only a jersey in temperatures just on this side of warm, with fingers crossed the wind remains low and the cloud cover stays away. A better option is to keep things light and be prepared for changing breezes and chilly cloud cover in the 7mesh Industries Men's Northwoods Jacket.Made from lightweight, breathable, and wind-resistant fabrics, this jacket may not be best suited for hardcore storms that require full water blocking power, but it provides just the right amount of protection for brisk and blustery days in the saddle. Underarm vents provide additional breathability to avoid overheating, while elastic grip at the hem holds the jersey in place and prevents unwanted exposure to chilly breezes. Reflective detailing adds a touch of safety, increasing visibility to motorists and other road users in low-light and dreary conditions.

7mesh Industries Outflow Jacket - Men's 7mesh Industries Outflow Jacket - Men's
A long weekend of epic bikepacking, remote camping, and general adventuring awaits to celebrate the last weeks of crisp scenery before winter really digs in. Keep your pack light and cover all your bases against the chill with the 7mesh Industries Men's Outflow Jacket. With light, breathable fabrics sandwiching cozy insulation, this jacket packs down easily and brings the versatility to keep you warm on the bike or by the campfire. 7mesh starts with layers of double-woven 15d nylon and 20d nylon ripstop, chosen for their ability to whisk moisture away without also sapping precious warmth, which means you'll stay dry and warm through strenuous hikes and long rides through the aspens alike. Between those two fabrics sits a layer of light and cozy Primaloft Gold 60g Active. It carries claims of being the highest warmth-to-weight ratio of any currently available synthetic insulation, so it won't weigh you down while you're trying to stay warm. As we'd expect from the function-first designers at 7mesh, the Outflow includes a softly brush collar for an added dose of comfort and a chin guard to protect from unwanted zipper scratches. Reduced insulation under the arms increases breathability and overall ventilation, while a full-length zipper lets you dump heat when the clouds suddenly clear and douse you in warm, high-altitude sun.

7mesh Industries Re:Gen Jacket - Men's 7mesh Industries Re:Gen Jacket - Men's

7mesh Industries Recon Jacket - Men's 7mesh Industries Recon Jacket - Men's
A real bike-touring weekend means you'll be spending plenty of time in and out of the saddle while you explore out-of-the-way towns, sample little-known local beers, and find the places most visitors don't. Knowing this, 7mesh Industries cut the Recon Men's Cycling Jacket for life on two wheels or two feet, with a slightly relaxed 7 Day fit to accommodate layering and Helix patterning to provide pedal-ready mobility. The Recon also boasts stretch-woven underarm panels for increased breathability and freedom of movement, so it easily transitions from riding down a gravelly forest road to wandering down main street. While the fit is the Recon's foundation, it's the Windstopper membrane that makes it a true masterpiece. It blends the softness of a midlayer with the water resistance of a softshell and the windproofing of a hard shell, so it will keep you comfortable in cool, blustery, and drizzly weather. For a fabric that can do so much, Windstopper is surprisingly light -- the Recon weighs just 300 grams -- and has slim, fully-taped seams and a SmoothLock adjustable hem for extra weather protection without added weight or bulk. 7mesh got all the details right, too, like do-it-all zippered hand pockets, a soft brushed internal collar, and reflective details to help you stay visible when you're riding through the twilight to make your next campsite.

7mesh Industries Resistance Jacket - Men's 7mesh Industries Resistance Jacket - Men's
The most important feature of the 7mesh Industries Resistance Men's Cycling Jacket is what it doesn't have: weight. At just 115 grams, it's virtually unnoticeable on your back, and packs up to about the size of your fist, so it's easy to stuff into a jersey pocket if you're afraid that a chilly wind might kick up during your ride. If it does, the Windstopper Active Shell windproof membrane will stop it from sucking the heat from your core while allowing sweat to evaporate quickly so you don't get stuck riding home in a clammy chill. Like all 7mesh shells, the Resistance is cut with Helix patterning for a cycling-specific fit with mobility in all the right places. It won't bunch or ride up (there's also gripper elastic on the hem to prevent gaps), and the slim fit reduces flapping so it doesn't function as an accidental air brake. Zippered wrist vents and passive back vents provide optional airflow from in warm conditions, and a mesh thumbhole cuff provides coverage for your hands and keeps your sleeves in place. Throw in low-bulk seam taping for packability and reflective details for an extra touch of safety, and the Resistance is ready to ride anywhere you care to take it.

Assos rS.sturmPrinz EVO Jacket - Men's Assos rS.sturmPrinz EVO Jacket - Men's
When Assos set out to build the ultimate rain jacket, its engineers didn't take the task lightly. They knew that if it was going to wear the revered Assos badge, it would have be light, packable, highly protective, and, most importantly, fit perfectly. The result of their efforts was the well-received original rS. sturmPrinz Jacket. This updated version has been tweaked to perfectly mate with the iJ. tiBuru for cold winter riding conditions. Assos started with the idea that an effective rain jacket has to be waterproof and work for cyclists riding hard in the worst conditions. But most importantly, it must fit like an Assos top. The question was how to accomplish this. To start, the engineers created new fabrics -- Triton V1 and Triton V2. Triton V1 is the tougher, heavier, more waterproof fabric, and it was used for the front panels. Triton V2 is lighter, more breathable and was used in back. The Swiss-made Triton fabric is a temperature-sensitive waterproof-breathable membrane. This means that when it's cold, the membrane is less breathable, which is good, as it will help hold in your body heat. When it's warm, the membrane is more breathable, and it will help vent sweat vapor. On the sides of the rS. sturmPrinz EVO, the airVent system further helps vent sweat and keep your core temperature stable and comfortable. On the inside, you'll see that the seams are sealed, so no water is able get in where fabric panels join. There's also a vent parallel with the shoulder blades that helps vapor exit at this zone. The wrists and neck have adjustable seals so you can tighten them to keep out the cold and wet or loosen them to get a little additional venting. This way you're able to always have a customized fit to suit your preferences and conditions. At the back of the jacket, you'll see a center pocket, sealed with a reflective zipper. On either side are pocket flaps that work both as vents and as access points to your jersey pockets underneath. And when the rain en...

Capo Lombardia DWR Rain Jacket Capo Lombardia DWR Rain Jacket
We know that the rain jacket you picked up years ago is one of the oldest and most beloved pieces of kit in your cycling wardrobe, but times have changed. With Capo's Lombardia DWR Rain Jacket leading the way, the tent-shaped garbage sacks of unbreathable material of ye olde rain jackets have been binned in favor of breathability and fit. The jacket is built with a combination of materials, but the active ingredients are Vapor 2. 5 and the old scuba standby, neoprene. Vapor 2. 5 is a minimalistic membrane that fends off the wind and precipitation of inclement weather without creating additional bulk. The 3 millimeters of neoprene really need no introduction. Water resistant, insulating, stretchy -- you know the drill. The rear hem, longer even than the Lombardia Jersey's, extends this protection all the way down your backside. The Lombardia DWR Rain Jacket's Super Corsa pedigree means that it has a race-inspired fit that won't hang or flap, continuing the theme exhibited across the Lombardia line of not introducing any unnecessary bulk to your wet-weather rides. It also has an SPF of 50, because the sun can still see you even when you can't see it. Reflective elements help keep you visible during those sunless times. Capo recommends the Lombardia DWR Jacket in temperatures ranging from 45 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. The Capo Lombardia DWR Rain Jacket is available in five sizes ranging from Small to X-Large in the color Black.

Capo Padrone SL Jacket Capo Padrone SL Jacket
Capo knew better than to mess with a good thing, which is why its new SL series relies on the same proven fit and detailing as the original Padrone collection, but with the addition of the latest in reflective fabric technology. The Padrone SL (high visibility) Jacket stands in as the ideal riding jacket, as its protective paneling was made to remain subtle during the daylight hours, yet become fully illuminated when light hits the surface. Welcome to the next generation in high-end, safety-minded riding apparel. The SL jacket falls under what Capo calls its Gruppo Sportivo, or GS Series. Designed to "push-the-envelope" of cycling apparel, the GS series received Capo's most advanced materials and construction techniques. Basically, it checks all of the boxes on your list -- support, flexibility, warmth, and also visibility. This is all due to the Padrone having been constructed from a blend of Capo's latest fabrics: Super Black and P-10 Membranes. Both of these ultra-reflective materials are what contribute to the jacket's visible properties, and they were engineered to provide the same controlled stretch, wind- and water repellency, and wicking abilities as the materials they replace. Crushed crystals have been bonded to the membranes' surfaces, which effectively reflect light when it hits the surface. This paneling is what gives the new Padrone its high level of visibility. Both of these materials' compositions favor a lightweight, softshell design over bulky, fleecy fabrics. Match that with a slim cut from hem to hem, and there's not a chance that rain or snow is getting in. Additionally, the P-10 panels are lightly perforated, which keeps air freely circulating through the jacket. This ventilation system ensures you stay comfortable in the saddle, regardless of your effort levels. In addition to prepping for the elements, the Padrone has been designed to be highly malleable in order to complement the cycling-specific flexibility of the GS series. Capo ma...

Capo Padrone SL Wind Jacket - Men's Capo Padrone SL Wind Jacket - Men's
While some among us are perfectly content churning out hour after hour of winter trainer miles in the warmth and comfort of our basement, others yearn for the open road and the satisfaction derived from an afternoon of braving the elements. For those of us living on the less temperate end of the spectrum, the key to getting out the door and turning pedals is proper anti-weather attire like the Capo Men's Padrone SL Wind Jacket. It utilizes a blend of Roubaix SL and Element 4 360 fabrics to create a warm, protective, and highly reflective addition to your winter cycling wardrobe. The bulk of this jacket is made from Element 4 360, a luminescent membrane that does triple duty to keep you dry while blocking wind and providing a huge swath of reflectivity to boost your visibility on dreary, cloudy, low-light rides. Super Roubaix SL panels at the sleeves and cuffs provide thermal warmth and breathability with the ideal amount of stretch to allow full freedom of movement without sacrificing necessary support. Making the most out of these top-end fabrics, the Padrone SL's fit is nothing short of impeccable. Capo Pursuit Compatto Wind Jacket Capo Pursuit Compatto Wind Jacket
Even on mid-summer rides in high altitudes, sudden showers or long descents justify packing a wind vest in a rear pocket. The unpredictable shoulder seasons require such protection more frequently, and a spring shower will often have much more dire consequences to body temperature than a summer sprinkle. The Capo men's Compatto Wind Jacket extends the Compatto Vest's protection to encompass arms and wrists, too, keeping more of you dry so a sudden storm and some wind gusts don't result in shivering ride home. The Compatto is windproof and water-resistant, two qualities that recommend it for the violent tantrums of spring and autumn cycling. It's also eminently packable, so you can stow it in a pocket between meteorological fits. The addition of long sleeves mean it's not as compact as the vest version, but the extra protection is more than worth it when the weather is at its least cooperative. As with most Capo kit, the Compatto Jacket is finished with reflective detailing, a smart addition considering it will see most of its use when overcast weather means you'll be harder to see.

Castelli Alpha Jacket Castelli Alpha Jacket
As we prepare for another season of cold-weather cycling, it behooves us to pause for a consideration of winter climbing. Climbing makes you hot, so your body produces sweat. But then you hit the top, and the fast descent through cold air cools everything off -- including the sweat. Since this chain of events usually means finishing a ride in clammy frigidity, confronting one or a series of taxing climbs during a winter ride is a daunting prospect. In yet another first, Castelli produced the genre-defying Alpha Jacket for just such an occasion. Your need to climb may be due to the restrictions of local topography, the desire to interrupt the monotony of winter base miles, or your own inability to just take it easy on a training ride. Whatever the case, the most immediately obvious feature that sets the Alpha Jacket apart from its competitors is also the one that addresses this, the ultimate problem of winter cycling: how to eliminate sweat on the climb without freezing. The Alpha Jacket's thermal layer is detached from the Windstopper layer in the front, so -- unlike with other winter jackets -- when you unzip the shell to let in the wind, you're only exposing the thermal layer, not your bare chest or base layer. Since the thermal layer is protective but permeable, it lets the cool in evenly, all over, not just through one frigid blast at your sternum. The thermal layer is also more breathable than the outer Windstopper fabric, which means that it evacuates moisture from your microclimate even as your body creates it on the climb. At the top, you're as dry as possible, so you can zip up and descend without worrying about cold sweat on the rest of the ride. And if the climb is too hot even for the thermal layer, you can unzip it, too, allowing for even more microclimate control. As alluded to above, that microclimate is protected by Gore's Windstopper 150 fabric, a lightweight, four-way stretch version of the venerable cold-weather armor. The Windstopper 150 -- like.

Castelli Cross Prerace Jacket Castelli Cross Prerace Jacket
The start of 'cross season signals the arrival of crisp, chilly mornings and warm afternoons with plenty of colorful foliage in between -- if you ask us, perfect racing weather. It's also the time of year when your pre-race warm-up takes on a more literal meaning, and getting your engine up to speed on chilly mornings can sometimes be a challenge. Save the hooded sweatshirt for post-race lounging, and make sure your body is as ready to race as your mind is with Castelli's Cross Prerace Jacket. Simplicity is consistently a hallmark of Castelli's designs, and the Cross Prerace Jacket is no exception. The jacket has a sleek, functional design that isn't weighed down by unnecessary extras that only distract from pre-race rituals. Castelli recommends it in temperatures ranging from 41 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, but our experience suggests it can go colder than that during stationary warm-ups. The jacket's front panels and sleeves are packed with insulating PrimaLoft 60 and a Toray 30g water-repellent coating -- because not every race morning is going to be sunny. The PrimaLoft ensures the heat you create during your warm-up laps stays inside your body's microclimate, while water-repellent Nano Flex fleece provides ventilation and keeps the jacket breathable along your back to help lessen the likelihood of overheating. Castelli gives you plenty of room to store keys, gels, or any other pre-race essentials in the jacket's zippered front pocket and three external rear pockets. Expect the Cross Prerace jacket to fit streamlined but with some extra room compared to some of Castelli's slimmer, race-cut apparel. This jacket is made to be worn over your race jersey, so it gives you room to move around while warming up and is quick and easy to slip off when it's time to head to the start line.

Castelli Elemento 2 7x(AIR) Jacket - Men's Castelli Elemento 2 7x(AIR) Jacket - Men's
In warm weather, you can throw on any old jersey and hit the road, confident that you'll stay warm and happy. Winter makes things a little tricker. You want to be warm, but not sweat, because sweat will quickly turn to ice, and you want to layer up, but you don't want to look and feel like a marshmallow man. It's a damn near intractable problem, but Castelli's Elemento 2 7x(AIR) Men's Jacket offers up an elegant, slim-fitting solution. It manages to balance weight, flexibility, breathability, and warmth, thanks primarily to Castelli's 7x(AIR) fabric. Quilted for warmth and naturally moisture wicking, 7x(AIR) traps heat against your skin while letting moisture move away, so you stay warm and dry even when conditions are at their toughest. To stop cold gusts from sapping your warmth, Castelli integrated WindShear wind-blocking inserts at the front, back, and triceps, and lined the body and collar of the Elemento with lightweight microfleece for extra insulation. Materials are only half of the equation, though. Cut is also essential, and the Elemento has a slim, aerodynamically-minded fit that's not only fast but efficient, as it allows moisture to quickly transfer to the jacket's surface for easy evaporation while minimizing the space between your core and the insulation for additional warmth. It also moves with you, so you never feel restricted when stretched out on the bars for long winter base miles. The articulated collar wraps comfortably around your neck in every position, and works with the raw-edge cuffs and dropped rear hem to seal out drafts without causing irritation. The Elemento also has three drop-in back pockets and reflective details for storage and visibility, respectively.

Castelli Espresso 3 Jacket Castelli Espresso 3 Jacket
So many pieces of cold-weather cycling kit fall into one of two aesthetic categories. One is the ubiquitous black on black with black detailing, and the other combines a medley of bright colors with swooping and swirly graphics. The Castelli Espresso 3 Jacket breaks this binary by using solid colors, contrasting highlights that complement the body's shape, and tasteful branding to make a winter jacket that's so attractive you'll want to wear it off the bike, too. And it's also water-resistant, windproof, and thermally insulated for temperatures ranging as low as 32 degrees Fahrenheit -- all of which will appeal to cyclists who aren't just in it to look good. Castelli uses Windstopper X-Fast material from the venerable manufacturer Gore-Tex, which is the go-to destination for manufacturers who want to beat the wind. Wind-resistance is expressed in terms of CFM, which determines permeability by measuring the volume of air that can pass through a given material in one minute. Since all fabrics branded with the Windstopper stop sign logo either meet or exceed the windproof rating of 1. 0 CFM, they are all literally windproof. In the Espresso 3, this windproof layer is sandwiched between a protective outer layer, which has been given a DWR treatment for water resistance, and a fleecy, insulating lining. The jacket's sleeves are forward-oriented with an abbreviated fit across the chest. This makes the Espresso 3 feel a little tight across the chest while you're standing, but it fits your body perfectly while stretched out on the bike. It sits close to your front instead of hanging down, eliminating the pregnant hippo look that so many of us despise in kit designed for cold or inclement weather. The floating shoulders also accommodate a cycling position and allow for unrestricted reach. The Espresso 3 may set a record for the number of zippers in a single cycling jacket. It has the requisite full-length front zipper, two zippered chest vents for when the going gets ho...

Castelli Idro Jacket - Men's Castelli Idro Jacket - Men's
Over the past five years, Castelli has made a name for itself by continuously redefining what we expect from race-worthy, breathable weather protection. The Gabba, the Tempesta, the Perfetto--these names have come to define the genre. The Idro Men's Jacket is this heritage's latest addition; it's also possibly the most impressive. It's the result of a partnership with W. L. Gore and Associates, and--with Castelli proudly proclaiming it the lightest Gore-Tex jacket in the world--the Idro combines the best and lightest features from across the Italian brand's line. The jacket's key construction element is Shakedry, a breathable membrane that enjoys the water- and windproof qualities that made Gore-Tex a legend in the general outdoor industry. It'll block the wind like your Gabba, but it's also literally waterproof, so heavy, prolonged rain that exposes the Gabba as merely water-repellent doesn't penetrate the Idro. This is backed up by the "GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY" policy, a promise that Gore-Tex rolls out in CapsLock for its official literature. Considering the enormity of that statement, we've opted to preserve Gore-Tex's jarring textual choice in our own copy--especially since the Idro pairs that huge claim with a correspondingly tiny one: it only weighs a claimed 123g for a size large. This low weight is possible because Shakedry eliminates the usual face fabric, so it's a two-layer membrane that preserves an uncompromising balance of breathability and protection while reducing bulk to expand Gore-tex's appeal to include elite cyclists. Castelli's penchant for very targeted innovation means that navigating its catalogue can occasionally be as tricky as negotiating damp corners on rainy descents. For comparison's sake, we'd situate the Idro as an ideal blend of two of Castelli's leading anti-weather tops: the Riparo Rain Jacket and the Tempesta Race Jacket. The Riparo is a few grams lighter than the Idro, but it's also far less breathable. Castelli's Tempesta...

The Meccanico features a bulkhead of synthetic down that's quilted to maintain even distribution and reinforced with fleece lining. The shell has a water-repellant finish, and a zippered hand pocket provides a convenient way to avoid setting your multi-tool down in the wet grass. Castelli Mortirolo 4 Jacket - Men's Castelli Mortirolo 4 Jacket - Men's
Dry winter days are often the ones that make us feel the guiltiest for not being out on our bikes; clear skies, bare roads, and sun bring far fewer challenges than messy, wet days do. If you're thinking about training through the winter (whether for a spring goal race or because you're tired of staring at your basement wall on the trainer for 3 months) the Castelli Men's Mortirolo 4 Jacket makes an excellent investment in dry-day comfort. Lightweight and warm, the Mortirolo doesn't come with as much protection from wind and rain as siblings like the Senza or Espresso, but what it lacks in weatherproofing, it makes up for in lightness. Cut with a slim silhouette, the Mortirolo 4 was bred for versatility; it's meant to be just as comfortable during a tough set of intervals as it is during a tempo ride or endurance-building base miles. Though not as contoured as Castelli's race kit, the Mortirolo easily accommodates a baselayer without ever appearing, or feeling, sloppy in the saddle. A Gore Windstopper X-Fast front panel does shield against rain and wind, while Castelli's thermal Warmer fabric, aptly named, covers the back of the jacket. It provides ample stretch and breathability to help you avoid overheating on cold days with warm sun, especially as you tackle hard efforts. Zippered vents along the chest further improve the jacket's ventilation, while a silicone waist gripper holds the drop hem in place as you stretch out into your drops.

The convertible option eliminated that dilemma, and the Men's Perfetto Convertible Jacket updates that versatility with improvements in areas that--frankly--we didn't think could be improved. The Convertible Perfetto is, basically, a Gabba-plus, beginning with the same race-fit, weather-resistant features that made the Gabba so damned impressive and pushing those properties to further extremes. The king is dead; long live the king. Of all the things Castelli changed, we're happy to report that it stuck to the zip-off sleeve model pioneered in the Gabba Convertible Jacket. The ability to remove the sleeves effectively makes the Perfetto Convertible a three-season jacket. Castelli claims it can handle temperatures ranging from 43 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit, but with smart layering and the sleeves on, it extends easily into the 30s. On the in-between days of late fall and early spring, the sleeves stow easily in one of the rear pockets, ready for action when needed. The zippered joint also extends over the shoulder in a raglan cut, keeping the zipper off of your skin and providing generous overlap with the jersey's short sleeves for increased protection. The sleeve construction remains virtually unchanged, but Castelli did do some serious tinkering to the Perfetto with the biggest change manifesting in an improvement to the Windstopper X-Lite Plus fabric's water-repellent finish. The change addresses a relatively minor complaint that many of us have with the Gabba--namely, it does tend to get a bit stifling during race efforts and interval sessions. That's not an issue that most other inclement weather gear needs to address, because most other inclement weather gear isn't cut for racing. Since the Gabba is, we were able to push it to its limits in the most demanding si..

Castelli Raddoppia Jacket - Men's Castelli Raddoppia Jacket - Men's
There are few things the truly embody the joy of riding a bicycle more than rolling through beautiful farmland as giant snowflakes float through the bright, crisp air around you. Take in the views in the warm comfort of your Castelli Men's Raddoppia Jacket, listen to the light crunch of fresh snow under your tires, and enjoy the blissfully muffled quiet and peace that marks the official changing of ride seasons. The key to this jacket's ability to weather the cold is Castelli's use of Gore Windstopper X-Fast thermal fabric, which offers warm protection against the elements of winter, and a lighter Thermoflex fabric on the sides for a balance of warmth and breathability. Large reflective paneling and logo placement across the jacket adds aesthetic interest and impressive visibility to other road users in dreary, low-light conditions. Castelli recommends this jacket for ideal warmth in temperatures ranging from 32-50 degrees Fahrenheit, but we'd happily pair it with a jersey and base layer in colder temperatures without any concerns.

Castelli Riparo Rain Jacket - Men's Castelli Riparo Rain Jacket - Men's
Looming clouds and threatening rainstorms are no match for the Castelli Men's Riparo Rain Jacket. This little jacket packs a big punch to combat the weather, with a mix of waterproof materials and packability that will have you out braving the elements and your friends wondering when you became such a hard core, all-weather rider. Just make sure to post photos and load the ride file. Castelli fashions the Riparo from its 2. 5 layer Torrent IV fabric. It's got a waterproof polyurethane membrane and woven outer shell that effectively blocks the elements. You lose a tiny bit of breathability with that much weatherproofing, but given the unappealing consequences of getting caught in a storm with lesser materials and limping home a shivering, damp mess, it seems like a more than acceptable compromise. As with all things Castelli, this jacket oozes attention to details. The seams are fully sealed and the zipper is also waterproof to ensure not a single errant droplet gets through while a high collar provides additional protection from the elements. The jacket's shape is cut to mirror the body in the cycling position, so you'll notice that the back and sleeves have been elongated to prevent gaps whether you're spinning on the hoods or hammering in the drops. Castelli finishes off the Riparo jacket with a stuff pocket that doubles as a stow-away pouch when the clouds break and sunshine resumes. For low-light and unendingly rainy days, reflective detailing helps increase visibility to motorists and other road users so you can ride safely to your destination.

Castelli Sella Rain Jacket Castelli Sella Rain Jacket
Bitter and rainy conditions seem like the perfect excuse to stay inside. However, Castelli knows that something inside of you still feels the need to ride. Its Sella Rain Jacket ensures that the weather is never an excuse for not riding outdoors. After all, who wants to spend all winter on an indoor trainer' First, it should be noted that the Sella jacket is not a stowable rain cover -- it's an actual jacket. Therefore, it's best worn for rides when you won't need to take it off and store it. Castelli constructed it from its Torrent three-layer laminate. This material is completely waterproof, wind-resistant, and highly breathable. And, while we're typically hesitant to support claims of waterproof, with a water column rating of 10,000mm, and fully-taped seams, the Torrent fabric has our vote of confidence. Additionally, all of the seams of the Sella were taped, the fleece-lined collar flips up, the full-length zipper is also waterproof. Additionally, it includes a rain flap and a zipper garage. In other words, nothing is getting into this jacket. Now, there is nothing worse then that feeling of cold air on sweaty skin in the dead of winter. So, to regulate your core temperature, layers need to breath so that moisture is able to be wicked away from your skin and evaporated. And even though the Torrent fabric is breathable, Castelli placed two large, zippered ventilation ports at the underarms of the jacket in order to increase airflow and cooling when your body is working hard. Just as importantly, Castelli knows that weather protection is a moot point if your jacket fits like a garbage bag. Accordingly, one of the added features of the Torrent fabric is its ability to stretch. As a result, the Sella Rain combines a hard-shell level of protection with the feel and freedom of movement of a softshell jacket. It's patterned to mirror the body within the cycling position. So, you'll notice that the back and sleeves have been elongated -- gaps above your shorts and ...

Castelli Senza 2 Jacket - Men's Castelli Senza 2 Jacket - Men's
You're loathe to abandon your Perfetto jersey as fall winds down, and we understand why. The Perfetto's clean silhouette and incredible ability to shield you from inclement weather while preserving the same freedom of movement as your favorite warm-weather jerseys is enough to make us yearn for cool weather just so we can wear it again. We can't stop winter's imminent arrival, but we can deliver the news that Castelli created a winter cycling jacket modeled after the Perfetto to see you through the colder months. Sharing the same streamlined silhouette and weather resistance as the Perfetto, the Men's Senza 2 Jacket comes equipped with a warmer construction to take you comfortably through the cooler winter months. The main difference between the Senza and the Perfetto, as we mentioned, is in fabric construction. Gore Windstopper X-Fast fabric anchors the Senza 2, providing resistance to wind, snow, and rain while you're out on the roads, as well as jacket-level warmth when the temperature drops. We'd compare it to a softshell, but that would suggest less freedom of movement than the jacket actually has. Breathable Thermoflex panels at the sides give the Senza 2 its stretchy, adaptable shape, ready to follow you as you change positions in the saddle. Wheel and road spray are kept at bay by the long, extended back hem, while reflective accents throughout the jacket help you stand out to motorists on dim winter days.

Castelli Sottile Due Jacket Castelli Sottile Due Jacket
Ominous clouds on the horizon can be pretty scary when you're 40 miles out with no shelter in sight. Fortunately, your Castelli Sottile Due jacket can hold off the worst of nature's onslaught while you pedal for home. Small enough to pack into a jersey pocket, the Sottile Due is made for just such an emergency, and it meets the challenge well. Castelli made the Sottile Due jacket with a blend of breathable wind-and water-resistant fabrics. Castelli also added mesh panels at the underarms for added breathability and airflow. The body panels are semi-transparent, so you kit and race number stay visible as you ride through the storm. The fit is fairly trim. This keeps the Sottlie Due a packable size and reduces the garbage-bag effect from which many rain jackets suffer. The Sottile Due was made with a full-length contrasting zipper for additional airflow and easy removal. Rounded elastic banding at the hem and cuffs keep the jacket securely in place. Rather than spending your ride clammy and overheating under a stiff, unyielding shell, reach for the Castelli Superleggera Jacket the next time the skies make you uneasy. Unlike that rain shell in your closet, the Superleggera easily packs away into a small saddle pack if stormy clouds blow over and the sun comes back out, but its wind- and water-resistant fabric are up to the task of staving off bad weather while maintaining breathability. Castelli wisely adds a completely waterproof panel of fabric at the back of the jacket as well, which won't soak through when you're dealing with wheel spray and wet roads for miles on end.

Castelli Tempesta Race Jacket Castelli Tempesta Race Jacket
Trying to stay dry when you're riding in the rain is generally a losing proposition, but the Tempesta Race Jacket is Castelli's attempt at making cycling rain gear that actually works. While the design isn't radically different than most rain jackets out there -- the back hem is significantly longer than the front, and there's some extra fabric at the sleeves and back -- the new, and highly technical, eVent waterproof and breathable membrane keeps moisture out without causing clammy sweat to build up. EVent is also used in top-end mountaineering shells and rain jackets, so you know its weather-besting credentials are impeccable, but its low weight and supreme packability are what elevate it above other materials. Even with fully taped seams, the Tempesta weighs in at just 201g and stuffs easily into a jersey pocket, so you'll never have an excuse for leaving it behind. Additional water-defeating details include a waterproof zipper, drawstring wrist closures, and an elastic silicone waistband, all of which help the Tempesta maintain its marvelous impenetrability. Stretchy inserts at the elbows, shoulders, and sides mean you'll have uninhibited mobility even when you're armored up against the weather. Castelli finishes the Tempesta with two classic back pockets and reflective details.

Castelli Velo Jacket - Men's Castelli Velo Jacket - Men's
The only thing worse than getting caught riding in a cool mist is wearing a rain jacket that seals in body heat and moisture. Even if the rain doesn't wet you, your own sweat will. Castelli's Velo Jacket is a lightweight solution which features breathable fabric and ventilation ports all in a small, portable package. The Castelli Velo Jacket was sewn from Forcefield fabric. This extremely lightweight fabric is a 30 gram, ripstop material that is windproof and water-resistant. It's so light, in fact, that you'll barely notice it against your skin. Additionally, it is highly breathable so that when you are working up a sweat you won't get drenched from the inside-out. The Velo jacket features covered ventilation ports on the sleeves and the back to help exhaust heat away from your body. It should be noted that while the Velo jacket is ideal for drizzle or windy conditions, it does not feature fully taped, waterproof seams. If you need a jacket to keep a deluge at bay take a look at the Castelli Pocket Liner JacketCut with a longer back, the Velo jacket helps to keep splash off of your behind. A high mesh collar keeps drizzle from running down your neck, and when the sun comes out, the neck turns into a pocket in which to store the entire jacket. Castelli Velocissimo Jacket - Men's Castelli Velocissimo Jacket - Men's
When we're heading out for a cold-weather ride, overheating is almost worse than not wearing enough layers. Being chilly can usually be fixed with a few hard efforts, but once you're sweating in your jacket, you're only going to get clammy. We're happy to report that Castelli understands the way we mortals need to layer in the winter. The Italian firm took one of its pro jackets and modified it to better adapt it to a recreational cyclist's body, giving us the Men's Velocissimo Jacket. Unlike the pros, most of us have enough body fat that we don't need to be bundled up in full Windstopper through fall and spring rides, so the Velocissimo balances insulation and protection from the elements with breathability for when we warm up. Castelli recommends the Velocissimo for temperatures ranging from 45 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. In our experience, 60 is pushing it for the jacket, but the addition of clouds and wind do take their toll even in the high 50s. The front and sleeve panels feature Gore Windstopper X-Fast fabric, designed to repel water and wind as you ride without trapping heat. Unlike the pro version, Castelli's soft Warmer fabric constitutes the back of the jacket, adding more breathable warmth to prevent overheating. The Velocissimo's form-fitting silhouette does accommodate a baselayer, but not much else, and as with the rest of Castelli kit, it was developed specifically to be used in a riding position, so it won't achieve its ideal fit until you're in the saddle. In case the wind kicks up while you're riding, Castelli includes a flip-up collar that will stay out of the way when not needed. It also adds thoughtful touches like a silicone gripper at the waist and stretchy Thermoflex side panels for added freedom of movement. Reflective accents help you stay visible during the limited daylight hours at the beginning and end of the year, and three rear pockets provide ample space for you to store your favorite winter ride fuel--and a few dollars for a warm,...

Chrome Ike Windshirt Chrome Ike Windshirt
Fashion can be a fickle, ever-changing thing. One day, your patched-up, oil-stained denim jacket turns heads from the ladies, and the next day, it's eliciting laughter. That's why we're all seeing a resurgence in straightforward, no nonsense designs like the Chrome Ike Windshirt. From a better age where campaign commercials said 'I like Ike, you like Ike,' the Windshirt has been made as timeless in its appearance as it has in its specificity to the bike. Chrome knows that you can ride in any jacket, but 'any jacket' can be torturous when you're in the saddle. That's why the Ike Windshirt is made from a wool-like, brushed polyester. The sleeves and rear hem were lengthened a bit to keep you covered when you're stretched out in the saddle. The rear of the jacket also has a pass-through cargo pocket that makes grabbing your phone or keys a cinch while you're on the move. For the wind protection functionality of the Ike Windshirt, Chrome went all out to keep you cold off of your skin. First off, the jacket's twill material naturally deflects wind, but to cover all of the bases, Chrome also placed wind-resistant, hidden nylon panels at the front of the Ike. And while this keeps cold air from getting in, Chrome also took steps to ensure that hot air can get out. Not only does the jacket have a two-way zipper for ventilation, but there are also dual armpit zips to keep the air flowing through. To further prevent win infiltration, the cuffs are zippered and the collar snap-buttons down. Chrome has also added reflective accents throughout the jacket to increase your visibility in low-light conditions. The Chrome Ike Windshirt is available in four sizes from Small to X-Large and in the color Military Green.

De Marchi Short Parka Jacket - Men's De Marchi Short Parka Jacket - Men's
The original designs of the parka as we know it today were based on Inuit jackets made from caribou or seal skin, hence the name parka, or "animal skin." De Marchi's Short Parka Jacket for men is a faithful recreation of the item as introduced to consumers when the design was adopted for mass production in the 1950s. The jacket's cotton and nylon blend creates a barrier against wind, light rain, and road spray that--though it may not be equal to the conditions of the Canadian Arctic--will certainly protect animals of the alley cat genus as they prowl the urban landscape. The slim fit, snap cuffs, drawstring hem, and hood all serve to extend and preserve the jacket's protective barrier in all directions while two front pockets cover cargo details. While they won't quite provision an expedition to chart the Northwest Passage, the pockets will secure your valuables courtesy of their button closures. De Marchi finishes the jacket with typically understated style that's only interrupted by a full-length zipper and subtle branding on the chest.

Rather than sitting around and twiddling your thumbs until the snow flies and it's time to strap a board or two to your feet, you'll be out enjoying late-late season singletrack, and as long as you have a jacket like the Fox Racing Men's Bionic Pro Softshell Jacket on your side, you'll be having a hell of a time. Fox doesn't mess around with the Bionic Pro, constructing it out of a three-layer softshell that not only shields you from rain and wind, but also adds breathable thermal insulation when you get high enough for the rain to turn to snow. Fox Racing Dawn Patrol Jacket - Men's Fox Racing Dawn Patrol Jacket - Men's
We all love autumn's "hero dirt" trails -- that moist-but-not-loose earth that both enhances grip and speed while reducing your chances of washing out -- but with it sometimes comes some gross weather that you can't avoid. The packable Fox Dawn Patrol Jacket is designed for those rides that may or may not turn nasty ahead of hero dirt perfection. Built around a nylon shell, the Dawn Patrol Jacket will block out both light precipitation and heavy wind. However, it's worth noting that it does this without getting you overheated, which makes it especially awesome on days when an insulated jacket is overkill. To further ensure water-resistance, Fox treated the softshell with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating that repels light rain. And for adequate airflow, there's a rear vent panel that will keep you from overheating. Because the Dawn Patrol is for the less-than-favorable conditions of shorter riding days, it has reflective details to increase your visibility to motorists if you're caught out after dark, and for ultimate convenience, the jacket packs down small enough to easily fit into most hydration packs. The Fox Racing Dawn Patrol Jacket is available in the color Black Camo and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large.

Fox Racing Downpour Jacket - Men's Fox Racing Downpour Jacket - Men's
While we can't condone setting out to ride when the trails are wet, since it contributes to their damage and erosion, we certainly understand that sometimes you get caught out there, or sometimes you simply have no choice from A to B. For those wet rides, we heartily recommend the Fox Downpour Jacket. The Downpour is constructed with dual-layered Ultra Q4 polyester that's been treated with a proprietary "10K/10K" laminate for waterproofing without impeding breathability. Ultra Q4 is incredibly light yet incredibly tough, and like we said, it breathes really well, so you're not going to feel like you're wearing a garbage bag, even after getting your heart rate up -- an attribute aided by the laser-cut vent perforations and underarm zippered vents, too. All seams and zippers are fully sealed from the weather, and the fitted hood folds into the collar when you don't need it. The jacket is both safe and practical, too, hosting a number of reflective details along with being a highly visible color for nighttime riding, and the hand pockets include a headphone port to keep the all-important tunes pumping. With a name like the Downpour, this jacket's a little beefier than the all-around wind- and water-resistant layers that you already have in your closet. Its two-layer Ultra Q4 fabric comes with fully-taped seams and a completely waterproof laminate to block out heavy rain pouring off the trees. The polyester blend shields against water but remains breathable, and Fox added well-placed venting panels along the back and underarms to prevent things from turning swampy inside when you're pedaling hard to get back to the trailhead.

Fox Racing Ranger Jacket - Men's Fox Racing Ranger Jacket - Men's
That climb you just finished had about five more switchbacks than you remembered when you rode it a few years back, but no matter. You've reached the top now, and just in time to see the sky glowing pink, purple, and orange as it approaches sunset over fall's changing leaves. While you're pausing to take it all in, pull Fox Racing's Men's Ranger Jacket out of your pack and zip it on. You might've sweated plenty on the climb, but you know the descent will turn chilly quickly, especially once the last of that sunset light disappears. The Ranger is all about light protection; it won't overwhelm you with insulation, but its DWR-treated polyester shell repels water and shields you from the breeze you generate while flowing down the way you came. Two hand pockets provide space to stash essentials if you need them, and the entire jacket packs incredibly small when not in use, so there's no reason to not bring it along, just in case.

Giordana AV 100 Winter Jacket - Men's Giordana AV 100 Winter Jacket - Men's
Giordana's new Acqua+Vento (AV) line runs the protective gamut from dark-side-of-the-moon extreme to lightweight, water-resistant insulation for temperate spring showers. The AV 100 Men's Winter Jacket falls neatly between those two poles by covering your body's leading edges in a three-layer membrane and equipping the less-exposed back and underarms with a DWR-treated thermal material. Giordana claims this combination is suited for "moderate winter conditions," which--in our experience--covers temperatures in the 40s, with weather, layering, and personal preference pushing the range a few degrees up or down. The AV 100 Winter Jacket owes its protective pedigree to the waterproof, windproof, and breathable membrane mentioned above. While a jacket constructed completely from this stuff would be equal to temperatures in the 30s, Giordana tempers it with rear panels that forgo the wind protection in favor of a more breathable thermal material called Thunderbike. It's got an Acqua Zero Evo DWR treatment to keep water beading and rolling off, but it regulates body temperature to keep you in your comfort zone when conditions don't warrant the nuclear-option of the heavier AV Jackets. For many of us, this is the perfect amount of protection for cycling through the winter. It's light enough to work as a standalone layer in the 40s, but it can layer into the freezing range either over the top of thermal base layers or as a super domestique mid layer. If you prefer to avoid riding in winter's worst, then the AV 100 Winter Jacket can also serve as something of a barometer. When the temperature is too low or conditions are too extreme for the jacket's midweight protection, then it may be a better day to stay in on the trainer. The jacket's collar is cut tall with a strategic shape in order to provide comfortable protection while you're bent over in the saddle, and the rear hem is extended to help shield against road spray. That extension is hit with Giordana's reflective Pi...

Giordana AV 200 Winter Jacket - Men's Giordana AV 200 Winter Jacket - Men's
When it comes to winter training, some of us hang it up when temperatures drop below 35 degrees Fahrenheit, retreating to the trainer or the couch until the spring thaw makes the roads safe for thermal jerseys again. Others cling desperately to the ability to ride outside through necessity (the dedicated commuter) or through a deep-seated and entirely understandable fear of stationary cycling. Either way, the Giordana Men's AV 200 Winter Jacket has us covered because the more cold-tolerant among us can wear it alone into the 30s during high-intensity workouts while the winter warriors can add layers as needed in order to go even lower. It describes the happy medium between the trainer crowd and the dedicated winter roadies. As the mid-weight entry in Giordana's numerical AV hierarchy, the AV 200 combines a windproof and water-resistant membrane across the chest and sleeves with panels of DWR-treated Thunderbike material across the back and in areas that aren't leading into the winter chill. That means the jacket's leading edges feature the same elemental protection as the heavier AV 300 Winter Jacket but the trailing edges breathe and dump excess heat like the lighter G-Shield jersey. This combination lets it serve as either a barometer to let you know when conditions are too extreme for outside riding or a shell for deep-winter layering. Though Giordana calls it a jacket, the AV 200 is cut more like the breed of super jerseys that we've all been using to race in inclement conditions, a fit made even sleeker by the lack of the AV 300's insulation and the addition of high-stretch Thunderbike panels. The jacket eliminates excess flap and unneeded grams by sitting close through the torso, but it does extend at the collar and rear hem in order to offer more protection. It's finished with reflective details and storage options including three standard rear pockets and a zippered pocket on the side.

Giordana AV 300 Winter Jacket - Men's Giordana AV 300 Winter Jacket - Men's
Whether this is the first year you've committed to logging winter base miles outside or you're used to riding through the cold, we have good news for you: winter kit seems to just keep getting better. Not only lighter than the billowing, ill-fitting jackets of old, this new crop of winter kit arrives cleanly tailored, made with hardworking fabrics that are capable of both blocking harsh conditions and remaining breathable. Unsurprisingly, Giordana's Men's AV 300 Winter Jacket exemplifies this trend, delivering sleek aesthetics and a highly efficient construction prepared to see you through the very worst of winter this year. As the warmest jacket in Giodana's new line, the AV 300 complements low-intensity base mile rides the best. On the nastiest winter days, when you're building endurance rather than suffering through intervals, your core temperature doesn't rise nearly as much as it would on a punchier ride. Knowing this, Giodana wisely gave the AV 300 a three-layer eVent DVstretch construction, finished with a DWR treatment on the outside and a micro-fleece lining. While the face fabric shields against rain, sleet, and snow, the plush lining creates a lofted layer of warmth next to your baselayer, holding your own body heat next to your skin to keep you dry. This fleece lining is also highly breathable, designed to pull moisture away from your skin as you slowly warm up to prevent a damp chill from settling in. In addition to this supple, adaptable fabric, Giordana also equips the AV 300 with a luxuriously soft micro-fleece collar to seal out harsh drafts, as well as brushed Super Roubaix cuffs and a drop hem to protect against wheel spray. You'll have trouble blending in on dimly lit winter roads when light strikes the Pixel reflective accents throughout the jacket's body; the luminescent material stands to prevent you from blending in with the grey winter landscape on lonely back roads.

Giordana AV Extreme Winter Jacket - Men's Giordana AV Extreme Winter Jacket - Men's
Layering is the skeleton key to Giordana's latest winter clothing line, with each entry in the extensive weather-protection hierarchy designed to span a large range of conditions depending on what you wear underneath it. The Men's AV Extreme Winter Jacket follows the same ethos, but its starting line is, well, extreme. It's still a layer-friendly, race-fit jacket, but it receives a sizeable thermal head start in the form of a Polartec Alpha 60 mid-layer instead of the lighter AV 300 jacket's brushed fleece lining. This insulating layer is sandwiched between a weather-resistant membrane and a winter mesh lining, so the AV Extreme Winter Jacket's temperature range reaches lower than any other jacket in Girodana's wardrobe. The Alpha 60 insulation is the biggest difference between the AV Extreme and AV 300 models, but the rest of the jacket's protective measures see similar tweaks in order to boost its overall deep-winter utility. Instead of the AV 300's DVstretch membrane, the AV Extreme features a DValpine membrane. Like with much of its top summer-weight kit, Giordana looked externally for material solutions to the typical cycling issues we all encounter. This search led it to eVent, a relatively young company that, since 1999, has been carving out space for itself in the breathable membrane market on the strength of its Direct Venting technology. Unlike the dominant strains of membranes currently flooding the market, eVent's Direct Venting models are what the brand calls a "dry system"--that is, they don't need to get wet before they begin to breathe. While traditional PU membranes require a slight accumulation of internal moisture before they begin to expel it, Direct Venting membranes like DValpine breathe immediately. This is ideal for cycling situations, where the work/rest cycles of intervals, climbs, or just pedaling between stop lights can make for a microclimate that constantly fluctuates from humid and hot to cold as exertion levels rise and fall. Giordana Fasce Vero Jacket - Men's Giordana Fasce Vero Jacket - Men's
For some of us, winter means buckling up and hitting the spin intervals to avoid the cold. Other, more adventurous types see winter is a time for epic base miles to take in the scenery and enjoy a break from high-intensity intervalling. For the latter, Giordana offers up its Men's Fasce Vero Jacket with its slightly relaxed fit compared to Giordana's race-oriented offerings, and the weather protection you need to tap out the miles. Giordana fashions the Fasce Vero with a triple layer membrane featuring a windproof, water resistant, and breathable middle layer that simultaneously fends off the elements while letting sweat evaporate to maintain a comfortable microclimate. The inner layer is a soft micro-fleece that provides comfortable warmth, while the outer layer boasts a DWR treatment to further fend off rain and snow. The side panels, under arms, cuffs, and inside of the collar feature soft, breathable Super Roubaix Carbon paneling for added ventilation. The jacket's collar is cut tall with a strategic shape to provide comfortable protection, with a zipper flap that eliminates irritation from harsh zipper pull edges. It's finished with three standard pockets, which provide space for ride essentials and accessories like spare gloves and reflective piping to increase visibility to others in less-than-sunny conditions.

Giordana FR-C Sette Winter Jacket - Men's Giordana FR-C Sette Winter Jacket - Men's
Giordana's latest generation of winter clothing has been radically expanded with a host of additional jacket models spanning the AV and Sosta lines. Fortunately for those of us who have become accustomed to the peerless fit and function of the FormaRed-Carbon (FR-C) line, the FR-C Sette Winter Jacket remains one of Giordana's highlights. And since it enjoys top billing in a brand as elevated as Giordana, the FR-C Sette is one of the most effective winter jackets in the industry as a whole. The jacket's main body and sleeve panels are made from DVstretch, a windproof membrane that features eVent's Direct Venting (DV) technology. Whereas traditional polyurethane membranes don't start breathing well until they're already damp, eVent's Direct Venting membranes start expelling water moisture as soon as it's present rather than waiting for it to accumulate, helping to keep you dry even during work/rest cycles. That means Direct Vent can be the difference between riding home in comfort or wallowing in a clammy chill after exertions like hill repeats or intervals leaving you perspiring. Giordana's eVent membrane of choice is the DVstretch flavor, which combines that all-conditions breathability with windproofness and a DWR finish. The FR-C Sette jacket won't stand up to a full-on deluge, but water from light to moderate precipitation and road spray beads up and rolls off before it can penetrate and chill. The Sette keeps you dry from inside-out, and staying dry in winter cycling is key to maintaining a warm core. As mentioned above, this is a partnership, and Giordana shines in the form of its FormaRed-Carbon (FR-C) construction ethos. First and foremost, FR-C involves a race-ready cut. That means you're not hanging up your painted-on race kit for a dumpy, tent-shaped canopy just because it's chilly--no sacrificing fit for cold-weather function. Instead, the Sette fits like a race jacket, which is what we expect from the FR-C line. It's not quite as form-fitting as an...

Giordana Fusion Winter Jacket - Men's Giordana Fusion Winter Jacket - Men's
Layering for early winter rides can be tricky, because it takes a balance of breathability and protection to get the ride just right. Layering for deep winter cycling is a no-brainer, though: protection is key, and everything else is secondary. The Giordana Men's Fusion Winter Jacket is among our top go-to items when the winter weather becomes as extreme as our spring and summer racing ambitions. We can't afford to miss those base miles, regardless of what the forecast has dialed up, so it helps us become an unstoppable force in the face of winter's immovable object. The Fusion Winter Jacket represents Giordana's most protective technologies but in a fit that's friendly to layering than the super-slim kit in the brand's AV line. It's made from a 3-layer, windproof, DWR-treated membrane that keeps the winter elements out of your body's microclimate. The inner face is brushed for low-loft insulation that warms without excessive bulk, leaving plenty of room to add base layers as the temperature falls to January levels. This is extreme protection, so it may be too much for hammering through autumnal hill repeats, but it does strike the ideal balance for long, low-intensity base miles in the depths of winter. The jacket is finished with an extended collar and three deep, open pockets. The outside pockets are both slanted for easier access while your sense of touch is impeded by windproof gloves, and an additional zippered pocket adds a secure storage option. While we touched briefly on the fit above, it's worth calling out again that--unlike Giordana's summer race kit--the Fusion Winter Jacket is cut with a fit that accommodates relatively heavy layering and a few extra holiday pounds.

Giordana Monsoon Shell Jacket - Men's Giordana Monsoon Shell Jacket - Men's
Our criteria for a rain jacket aren't numerous, but they we refuse to use any rain jacket that doesn't meet them. They are that a jacket must be waterproof, windproof, fit well, and be stowable. Giordana meets those demands and more with its Men's Monsoon Shell Jacket, which ticks off each item on the list and adds a bonus: a buttoned chest strap secures the front even when the zipper is open to ventilate. That means you can get some airflow after you descend a few thousand meters and the temperatures rise. Weather protection remains the jackets number one job, though, and the eVent Spider membrane fulfills expectations. It's water- and windproof, as you'd expect, but it also begins to breathe immediately rather than waiting for the accumulation of moisture like many other membranes. That makes it ideal for the kind of on-again/off-again conditions where packable rain jackets really come in handy, helping to keep you comfortable even in changing conditions. The zipper is also waterproof, and additional rear zippers provide access to jersey pockets underneath. When the clouds clear or you reach the bottom of a chilly descent, the jacket packs down into its own pocket for easy storing in those erstwhile concealed jersey pockets. The extended collar protects your neck from water, and reflective detailing on the lower back help keep you visible in the low-light conditions of a sudden spring shower.

Giordana NS Storm Rain Jacket - Men's Giordana NS Storm Rain Jacket - Men's
The Men's NS-Storm Rain Jacket is Giordana's answer to shoulder-season clothing conundrums. On those will it/won't it days when the chance of rain is in the 40-70% range, the NS-Storm is an eminently packable barrier against the rain that is happy riding unused in a pocket for a few hours if the weatherman got it wrong. It's got taped seams and a zipper overflap, which boost its foul-weather pedigree to the point of being literally waterproof. We wouldn't recommend riding into a lake to test that claim, but you'd pretty much have to in order to get wet through this thing. The overflap secures with magnets at the top and bottom, a design feature that aims to take the "flap" out of "overflap," and the extended collar is lined so your throat isn't exposed to the same unforgiving treatment that the jacket gives rain and road spray. When the clouds break, the NS-Storm packs down into its own pocket, making a ball about the size of a fist, so just-in-case rain protection doesn't cost you an entire jersey pocket.

Giordana NS-Air 20 Wind Jacket - Men's Giordana NS-Air 20 Wind Jacket - Men's
We'll admit, it took actually putting our hands on Giordana's NS-Air 20 Men's Wind Jacket for us to truly understand exactly what set it apart enough from other wind jackets; but once we did, the difference was almost instantly apparent. Insisting that the NS-Air 20 manages to feel light, featherweight, or airy somehow doesn't give it nearly the credit it deserves. Like with the rest of Giordana's top-tier kit for 216, the impossibly-thin, flexible material that Giordana uses to craft the otherworldly garment is sourced from the swim and undergarment industries. The difference here is that the material is meant as a shield against the elements rather than a light, airy summer material. Soft is rarely, if ever, an adjective bestowed upon wind shells and vests, but the fabric on the NS-Air 20 earns it. It's also able to usher moisture away from your skin so it can evaporate at the surface rather than staying trapped inside the windproof layer. As it fits completely inside its own pocket, carrying the jacket with you on a ride is easy, and it weighs so little that by the time you've tucked it into a jersey pocket, you'll forget you have it with you until you reach a chilly summit or feel the wind picking up mid-ride. Giordana created the NS-Air 20 to be used as a windproof jacket only, so it doesn't have any thermal properties or waterproof abilities, but if you're looking for a wind shield that won't slow you down or cause you to overheat, you'll have a difficult time finding a lighter option than the NS-Air 20. As it's made by Giordana, the jacket also employs the tailored, functional fit that the brand consistently displays across its top-of-the-line kit That fit is achieved in part on the NS-Air 20 with an elastic ham that drops in the rear specifically to provide appropriate coverage in a riding position. Elastic at the sleeves and waist hems block enterprising gusts of wind, and a bright, full-length zipper gives you the freedom to control airflow into the ...

Giordana Sosta Winter Jacket - Men's Giordana Sosta Winter Jacket - Men's
Giordana took inspiration from the Italian word for "pause" when creating its Men's Sosta Winter Jacket, thinking about the times we choose to ride for the sake of riding, rather than for strict splits and goal paces. Those types rides often happen more frequently in the off-season, when we're finished with training schedules and weekend races. So, the rain and wind that accompany the off-season are exactly the conditions Giordana developed the Sosta to handle. Its three-layer polyester/spandex shell comes coated in a water-repellent DWR coating, which blocks rain and strong gusts, while remaining breathable as you warm up. Underneath its efficient shell, the Sosta comes with a merino wool lining, responsible for both insulating and using its natural ability to regulate temperature to keep you dry throughout your ride. Whether you pair the Sosta with a baselayer or thermal jersey, it will consistently ferry moisture to its surface to evaporate so you don't end up cold and clammy after a tough climb to a gusty summit. Reflective accents help you stand out on dim, late fall roads, and three rear pockets are complemented by a zippered individual pocket to hang onto ride snacks and a view-capturing smartphone. As this is a more relaxed jacket, Giordana tailored the Sosta to be an easy layering piece, without giving it a hint of sloppiness. Its slim fit matches an equally clean style we're unsurprised, but still thrilled to see from the Italian firm.

Giro Chrono Wind Jacket - Men's Giro Chrono Wind Jacket - Men's
Windy days always present a challenge while you're out on a ride, and they somehow seem to happen more often on the days you're riding solo, with no one to draft off of as you push through headwinds in slow motion. At the very least, a wind jacket can make those days much less miserable as it protects you from the gusts without allowing you to overheat. With a streamlined shape and ultralight, packable construction, Giro's Chrono Wind Jacket fits that description aptly. Crafted primarily from stretchy nylon, the Chrono Wind Jacket was designed to follow your body movements in the saddle rather than feel like an ill-fitting poncho, and when accented by airy mesh panels along the back and sides, the jacket still draws moisture away from your jersey and allows airflow to keep you cool. The jacket includes cuffs to block the wind and a two-way front zipper to give you ample control over ventilation. Giro adds reflective accents along the back of the jacket as a subtle reminder of your presence on the roads, and the entire jacket can be packed up and easily stowed in a jersey pocket in case temperatures rise or the wind calms down mid-ride.

Gore Bike Wear 30th Anniversary Phantom 2.0 SO Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear 30th Anniversary Phantom 2.0 SO Jacket - Men's
Gore Bike Wear is celebrating the start of the third decade since it introduced the Giro jacket with the jacket's versatile descendant, the men's 30th Anniversary Phantom 2. 0 SO Jacket. When the Giro debuted, it taught us that rain protection didn't have to be the equivalent of a giant plastic bag, and the Phantom celebrates this heritage by continuing it with even more elemental protection. Gore's venerable Windstopper Soft Shell material is windproof, water-resistant, and breathes to eliminate sweat and water vapor so one hard effort doesn't mean two more hours of cold, clammy moisture under your base layer. The Phantom may be the ideal jacket for training through that base mile dead zone from late fall to early spring. We love Windstopper fabric, but it's hardly a rarity in cycling clothing these days. What really sets the Phantom 2. 0 apart from the legion of jackets using similar materials are the sleeves. With a zip-zip the raglan sleeves come off, exposing short, soft sleeves and converting the Phantom to a jacket that's appropriate for fall or spring. When in full-sleeve mode, the inclusion of stretch panels ensures a restriction-free fit that maintains better coverage while you're stretched out in the drops. The jacket is finished with a zippered underflap at the rear hem to protect you from wheel spray on wet days. Elastic bindings on the cuffs and hem keep the jacket in place, and three rear pockets provide enough storage for all your essentials plus the sleeves if conditions require you to remove them mid-ride. Reflective elements on all sides of the jacket keep you visible in low-light conditions.

Gore Bike Wear One 1985 GTX Shakedry Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear One 1985 GTX Shakedry Jacket - Men's
When Gore released its first Gore-Tex jacket, the Giro, three decades ago, it revolutionized wet-weather cycling apparel by pairing breathability with weather-blocking prowess. Although it came with a pretty price tag, this jacket gave us a collective hope that the days of sweating bullets in the steamy microclimate of thick plastic rain capes could soon be in our rear view mirror. The years between have not disappointed, ushering in a plethora of reasonably breathable, weather-resistant cycling jackets to keep our training on track when the weather turns south. However, Gore didn't become a legend in the outdoor industry by settling for "reasonable," and its engineers have been furiously at work creating the new Gore Bike Wear One 1985 GTX Shakedry Men's Jacket. Arriving amidst a swirl of rumors that it will change our experience of exercising in inclement weather, this jacket is Gore's attempt to push the industry into a new paradigm of fabric technology. Again. Touted as the lightest and most breathable Gore-Tex product ever created, the secret to this jacket lies in its Shakedry fabric technology. Most weather-proof fabrics employ a porous-yet-weather-blocking inner membrane protectively sandwiched between a liner and DWR-treated face fabric, which is a functional if not necessarily lightweight way to achieve the desired level of weather protection. As the DWR treatment eventually wears off, you're left in the rain with a water-soaked outer layer that restricts breathability and brings back visions of those dreaded plastic rain capes. Shakedry, conversely, lands as a lightweight, paper thin, single-layer fabric that's highly breathable and durably wind- and water-repellant. In fact, Shakedry lives up to its billing because it literally shakes dry. Whether you're riding out from under the storm into welcoming sun or hungrily clopping into your favorite cafe, a quick shake expels water beads from the surface, freeing you from the inconvenience of cold, damp j...

Gore Bike Wear One Gore Thermium Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear One Gore Thermium Jacket - Men's
Riding a wave of windproof, water-resistant, breathable race wear, Gore Bike Wear's Windstopper fabric recently revolutionized the cycling industry. With the new Thermium material at the heart of the One Gore Thermium Jacket, the venerable outdoor manufacturer may be poised to do it again. Thermium is basically a Windstopper membrane with the addition of built in insulation, a construction that effectively eliminates the need to pile on multiple base layers while still guaranteeing that your thermal layer stays dry in all but the harshest deluge. Several hundred general outdoor manufacturers have already added the membrane to their repertoire, but the appropriately named One Gore Thermium Jacket is the first instance we've seen of it in the cycling world. As with all quality kit, the details matter, and Thermium's details are impressive. It's a two-layer, windproof, water-repellent, breathable laminate with taped seams--in short, pretty similar to insulated versions of Windstopper. The key difference is that Thermium's insulated layer is upgraded to 80g of Primaloft Gold, making it warmer and higher quality than the stuff used in standard Windstopper. One detail to note is that, unlike Gore-Tex, Gore Thermium isn't waterproof; it's just extremely water-repellent. For cycling, this basically means that it's equal to any kind of weather you'd actually want to be on a bike in. It's also more than capable of handling weather that would make most of us pull over and seek shelter or call up the significant other for a ride home. If you happen to ride into a lake, though, you'll probably get wet. We should note that the One Gore Thermium's extreme wind, water, and cold-protection mean that it's only applicable to, well, the most extreme conditions we'd want to ride in. The Primaloft/Windstopper combination packs a wallop that won't see much use outside of winter's depths; however, if you're one of the brave souls who the local news profiles for commuting through blizza...

Gore Bike Wear One Gore-Tex Pro Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear One Gore-Tex Pro Jacket - Men's
Despite popular belief, there are times that we pray for rain in the saddle--but only if we've got the confident protection of kit like Gore Bike Wear's One Gore-Tex Pro Jacket for Men. Our situationally specific love of rain manifests during times like when a light drizzle during a bikepacking trip through the Pacific Northwest pulled the colors and scents out of the pine-lined fireroads and sloughed-off needle beds, completing the atmosphere of one of the most surreally beautiful moments we've ever experienced from the saddle. Of course, this beauty is hard to enjoy if you're pedaling 60lb of supplies towards the eventuality of a soggy, miserable camp. Since it's essentially mountaineering technology adapted to cycling, the One Gore-Tex Pro Jacket (and some waterproof panniers) can save you from that fate. The jacket's heart is its Gore-Tex Pro 3-layer membrane, which features breathability on par with the lighter Gore-Tex Active membrane and is both wind- and waterproof. It's more durable than Active, though, a property that complements the jacket's more relaxed fit and recommends it as the bikepacker's dream. If you're after elemental protection for intense intervals and race efforts, something with Active or even Windstopper is a better bet; if you're in the market for extended periods of work/rest cycles and an abuse-hungry face fabric, then Pro is the way to go. Gore-Tex Pro isn't afraid to get out of the saddle and clamber up a rain-drizzled scree field in pursuit of a valley floor panorama shot, nor does the prospect of grasping branches and abrasive pack straps give it pause. Gathering tinder, setting up and tearing down camp, and posting up on a granite stool next to a morning fire--the One Gore-Tex Pro Jacket's sturdy membrane and fit recommend it for all of these activities and more, regardless of wind and rain. (Disclaimer: Though the jacket will protect your torso, uncooperative weather may in fact ruin your coffee.) The membrane is cut, stitched...

Gore Bike Wear One GTX Active Bike Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear One GTX Active Bike Jacket - Men's
Gore brings its expertise in windproof, waterproof fabrics to a fall rain jacket this year, and the results are as we've come to expect from the dominant brand. After making the name Gore-Tex synonymous with waterproof in colloquial language, the brand set its sights on crafting tailored road and mountain kit, and its One GTX Active Bike Jacket demonstrates an expert combination of effective construction and highly functional fabric. Cut with a slim silhouette and Gore-Tex Active with Shakedry Product Technology, the jacket is ideal for rainy, gusty fall days when you need a layer that will block water and wind without over-insulating. As its name suggests, the Shakedry membrane continuously forces water off the surface of the jacket, allowing Gore to skip the step of adding face fabric that could potentially soak through and instead create a jacket capable of remaining completely dry throughout your ride. While you try to keep cadence through a cold drizzle, a well-shaped collar blocks out water without adding too much bulk, and reflective accents help increase your visibility in the dim light of a rainy day. In the event that the clouds miraculously clear mid-ride, the entire jacket stuffs into its own front zippered pocket, so you can stuff it in your jersey pocket or saddle pack and get on with your ride.

Gore Bike Wear Oxygen 2.0 Gore-Tex Active Shell Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear Oxygen 2.0 Gore-Tex Active Shell Jacket - Men's
Telling yourself "I think that storm will go around us" is a surefire way to get the clouds to open up as soon as you hit the road, and while Gore Bike Wear's Oxygen 2. 0 Gore-Tex Active Shell Men's Jacket won't convince the weather to change, it will protect you from its angriest outbursts. Active Shell is Gore-Tex's most breathable membrane, so you won't become sweat-soaked in an attempt to ward off rain, and Gore engineered the Oxygen with zippered vents at the forearms and sides to help you stay cool when the drizzle takes a brief break. The side vents also provide easy access to jersey pockets, so you can stuff gloves and ear warmers in when you don't need them. Cut slim, the Oxygen will slide comfortably over a jersey but won't flap in the breeze when you get low during a wet and extra-exciting descent. A partially elastic hem keeps your lower back covered up when you're in the drops and the high collar sits comfortably against your neck. The collar is also reinforced, which makes working the front zipper with one hand a simple task. Gore finishes the Oxygen with a full complement of reflective details so you don't find yourself being ridden off the road by sleepy commuters when you're out for a misty, early-morning training ride.

Gore Bike Wear Oxygen GWS Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear Oxygen GWS Jacket - Men's
For you, a dip in temperature and snow in the air certainly don't signify the end of the cycling season. Whether your strategy for riding year-round includes wrapping your featherweight road rims in 28mm winter boots, or swapping your road bike out entirely for your mud-ready 'cross steed come September, the Gore Bike Wear Men's Oxygen GWS Jacket should be what you're wearing over your jersey. Slim fitting and delivering the reliability of Gore's proven Windstopper fabrics, the Oxygen will keep you pushing the pace through the colder months. To start, Gore equips the jacket to withstand a potent late fall cocktail of wind, rain, sleet, and snow showers by constructing the shell with its venerable Windstopper fabric. Water-resistant and completely windproof, the softshell fabric will move with you from your hoods to your drops and back again without feeling restrictive. Inside, a plush fleece lining acts as lightweight insulation, sitting cleanly over a baselayer or thermal jersey and establishing a lofted layer of warmth around your body, while continuing to wick moisture away from your skin as you heat up. For the days that warm up more than expected, Gore adds two zippered vents for airflow and builds the jacket with a full-length zipper to allow for more temperature adjustment as needed. An elastic hem and longer back hem of the jacket ensure it will stay in place while you're on the bike, while the three standard pockets and single zippered pocket provide the same amount of space as your favorite jersey for stowing bonk-preventing ride fuel and other must-haves.

Gore Bike Wear Oxygen WindStopper Active Shell Light Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear Oxygen WindStopper Active Shell Light Jacket - Men's
We've all been there. You're vigorously pedaling along when ominous clouds and forceful gusts leave you crouching along some roadside shelter until stormy skies depart. Keeping you riding through quick-moving fronts and blustery conditions, the Gore Men's Oxygen WindStopper Active Shell Light Jacket blocks the strongest of gusts while shedding passing showers. The WindStopper Active membrane offers windproofing and weather-resistance against oncoming precipitation. Partially covered seams along the shoulders prevent outside moisture from sneaking through and dampening your jersey underneath. Plus, its highly breathable nature ensures a pleasantly cool feel without you bathing in perspiration or overheating on high-cadence training rides and vigorous climbs. Slimmed-down, but not overly restrictive or skin-tight, the Oxygen acts as the finishing touch of protection over your cycling jersey. Its semi-locking front zipper won't slide down throughout your ride. The zipper's underflap keeps headwinds from stealing precious body heat. Reflective logo and print details adorn the front, back, and sides for excellent visibility in low-light conditions. The ergonomically shaped collar provides a smooth on-skin feel while the reinforced hem allows for easier zipping. Elastic binding along the edges keeps the jacket securely in place when you're dropped over the bars. As an added bonus, the zippered front pocket doubles as a stow-away pocket for convenient storage when it's not in use.

Gore Bike Wear Phantom 2.0 SO Men's Jacket Gore Bike Wear Phantom 2.0 SO Men's Jacket
Cycling jackets are a big investment, both in terms of economics and preference. If you've a fall-weight jacket that fits you perfectly, then it's a minor tragedy when you have to switch to your winter-weight jacket that hangs loosely or simply doesn't fit well. After all, in cold-weather riding, comfort is already at a premium, so it's a shame to sacrifice fit for function. The Gore Bike Wear Phantom 2. 0 SO Jacket's removable sleeves address both of these concerns, alternating between a short-sleeve Windstopper top for fall and spring conditions and a long-sleeve jacket when winter rolls in--essentially giving you two jackets that fit the same way for the price of one. The Phantom 2. 0 features Gore's venerable Windstopper Soft Shell fabric. The Soft Shell construction is a touch heavier than Gore's similar Active Shell fabric, owing to a difference in lining. Active Shell uses a thin, mesh-like scrim for wind protection without adding undue warmth and weight while the Soft Shell incorporates a plush, soft lining that's thicker for insulation in cold weather while still providing the wind-resistance for which Windstopper is named. Windstopper Soft Shell is also water-resistant and wicks moisture away from your skin, so you're protected from moisture both inside and out. Though Windstopper is stretchy, it does sacrifice some give in pursuit of elemental protection, so Gore incorporates stretch panels in the Phantom 2. 0. This permits a full range of movement, whether you're stretched over the hoods or reaching down into the drops. We love Windstopper fabric, but it's hardly a rarity in cycling clothing these days. What really sets the Phantom 2. 0 apart...

Gore Bike Wear Power 2.0 Windstopper Softshell Jacket - Men's Gore Bike Wear Power 2.0 Windstopper Softshell Jacket - Men's
Protection from the wind and water in a close-fitting, stretchy outer-shell is exactly what you receive with the new Power 2. 0 SO Jacket from Gore Bike Wear. The Power was constructed using the proven WindStopper fabric, and it also incorporates a host of features designed to keep you warm, dry, and comfortable out there on your two-wheeled machine. Similar to other protective outerwear layers in Gore's Power line, the Power 2. 0 SO jacket was constructed using Gore's patented WindStopper Soft Shell fabric. This is essentially a fleece-lined, membrane-backed stretchy material that moves with you while riding. The characteristics of this fabric are ideal for exercising in cool and cold weather, as Soft Shell provides a light, flexible layer of insulation, yet it also blocks the wind and rain with its inner-membrane. WindStopper provides the comfort of a mid-layer and the water-resistance of a shell all in one. Additionally, this material's composition breathes incredibly well, which allows moisture to escape from within, rather than collecting inside and chilling your body like other membrane layers. This means that your body remains warm, dry, and comfortable during all of your rides. Gore Bike Wear describes the fit of the Power 2. 0 SO as "slim," which means that it stays close to the body without being constricting. The elbows are pre-shaped so that they don't tug at the underarms when you reach for the handlebars. Again, Gore Bike Wear took a minimalist approach when designing the Power 2. 0 SO jacket, so there are only three pockets on the lower back panel. There's also a fourth zippered pocket that houses a detachable storage bag (LOKSAK) for sealing off your electronic devices from the elements. The cuffs are adjustable, the tall collar is fleece-lined, and there's a partially elasticized hem. Gore finished off the jacket with reflective elements on the front, sides, and back of the jacket. The Gore Bike Wear Power 2. 0 SO Jacket is available in five...

Hincapie Sportswear Edge eVent Jacket - Men's Hincapie Sportswear Edge eVent Jacket - Men's
Cyclists demand a lot from protective riding apparel, especially when the weather takes a turn for the worst. Not only do cycling jackets need to repel wind-driven rain, passing showers, and soaking road splashes, but perhaps more importantly, they need to breathe well to avoid becoming a veritable sweatbox through intense exercise at high humidity levels. Keeping you pleasantly dry in the nastiest weather, the Hincapie Sportswear Men's Edge eVent Jacket seals out the heaviest precipitation while breathing extraordinarily well to reduce perspiration build-up and the inevitable cold, clammy feel that follows. The jacket repels the heaviest showers and storms with its eVent three-layer membrane construction. This waterproof, breathable membrane protects your upper body from oncoming wind and rain while breathing to expel built-up water vapor (e. g., from perspiration). Hincapie's breathable E5 3L fabric further enhances its breathable nature, shedding oncoming moisture while evacuating excess sweat as you pedal furiously though rapidly changing weather patterns. Plus, reflective treatments keep you visible to oncoming traffic when moody weather blocks out the mid-day sun. Further reinforcing the jacket, fully taped seams prevent outside moisture from leaking through its most vulnerable zones, especially under intense storm activity. Zippered waterproof cuffs solidify its fit and function in nasty weather, easily sealing over gloves without restricting motion or dexterity. Other storm-worthy features include a waterproof front-zip closure, weather-protective hem with Cohesive integrated adjustment, and waterproof back-zip pocket.

Louis Garneau Commit WP Cycling Jacket - Men's Louis Garneau Commit WP Cycling Jacket - Men's
Rain doesn't care about your training plan or your desperate ache to be rid of the indoor trainer as early as possible in early spring. It'll fall; sometimes it'll turn to snow. Sometimes the possibility of it won't even occur to you till the asphalt becomes a pointillist canvas, gradually darkening under drops that started falling halfway through a ride that begun under relatively clear skies. Be prepared for the fickle primavera with Louis Garneau's Commit WP Cycling Jacket, whose strategic combination of weatherproof membranes balances protection with pack-ability and stretch. The Commit features two different membranes--a 3-layer and a 2. 5-layer model--both of the Canadian brand's Extenz family. Both membranes present a water- and windproof exterior to the elements while maintaining a breathability unheard of in cycling kit just five years ago. Despite the rigid protection, the jacket's high stretch lets it move with you in the saddle, so you're reach isn't hampered while fumbling for water bottles or gels with thick, weather-resistant gloves. When the clouds clear and the deluge relents, the jacket packs down inside its own pocket. When stuffed into itself, the Commit can squeeze into a jersey pocket, but we often find that it's in competition with everything else we're taking off: gloves, soggy caps, knee warmers, etc. Given this, we've ocassionally resorted to stuffing it down the back of our jerseys--a trick we learned as youngsters watching the pros navigate changing conditions mid-race. The beauty of the Commit is that it's not just a PVC sheet like the peloton used to use, so while it's admittedly not ideal, it's far less onerous than indignities suffered by the heroes of our youth during changing conditions on race day.

Louis Garneau LT Enerblock Jacket - Men's Louis Garneau LT Enerblock Jacket - Men's
Considering the countless base miles we've ticked off in its predecessor, the Louis Garneau LT Enerblock Men's Jacket has some big sleeves to fill. The previous Enerblock Jackets have been key to turning what would be miserable winter base miles into enjoyable outings where, though our exposed noses might suffer, our cores remain relatively comfortable. The LT Enerblock doesn't disappoint, but it does expand on that legacy with an updated fabric composition. As with its predecessors, the LT Enerblock's defining element is the material for which it's named. Like the Enerblock material it replaces, LT Enerblock creates a warm, dry microclimate with a windproof, waterproof membrane that keeps body heat in while keeping the elements at bay. LT Enerblock is also breathable, so it still lets water vapor out when perspiration rates rise with exertion levels, and the LT prefix suggests some increased stretch compared to the previous material. Reaching for a bottle in winter cycling gloves is arduous enough without an impeding fit, and LT Enerblock's inclusion of a bit more mechanical stretch shines most prominently in the shoulders when you're grabbing a bidon or draped over the bars. Of course, anyone who's spent time in cold-weather kit knows that this kind of elemental resistance does come at the price of some breathability, so LG supplements the LT Enerblock with some strategically arranged panels of HeatMaxx, the Canadian brand's all-purpose thermal fabric. HeatMaxx's brushed inner face creates a bit of insulating loft, and it's lack of a membrane means it also breathes and manages excess heat more effectively than LT Enerblock. The HeatMaxx panels are placed at the elbow joints, underarms, and across the back, which ensure they perform their insulating, breathing duties without compromising the chest, shoulders', and forearms', weather-resistant properties. The LT Enerblock Jacket is cut to accommodate layering, so its utility extends well into the low 30s or ev...

Louis Garneau Modesto Jacket 2 - Men's Louis Garneau Modesto Jacket 2 - Men's
The transition months of spring and fall are uncertain times when it comes to temperature, but at the least, they're guaranteed to be wet and windy. The Louis Garneau Modesto Jacket 2's lightweight, breathable design is ideal for variable weather. Both wind and water resistant, the Modesto is cool enough to zip over any kit in the spring, winter, or fall. The Louis Garneau Modesto Jacket 2 is made from a blend of Garneau's Diamond Air and Light Mesh Airdry fabrics. Used for the outer-layer due to its tear-resistant diamond-pattern construction, the Diamond Air fabric is both lightweight and breathable. Additionally, this material aids in the repelling of wind and water. Louis Garneau Neoshell Jacket - Men's Louis Garneau Neoshell Jacket - Men's
Balance on the bike is important. We not talking about not falling over -- though that's key, too -- but about achieving the perfect balance of weather protection, temperature regulation, and mobility. Louis Garneau's Neoshell Men's Jacket is designed to help you find that elusive equilibrium, with fabric that's equally waterproof and breathable, a cut that's mobile but slim, and details that account for almost every weather contingency. Louis Garneau constructed the Neoshell Jacket from Polartec Neoshell, a softshell fabric that repels water while maintaining excellent breathability, so you stay dry from the inside and outside. LG also incorporates stretchy and waterproof Extenz panels in key places to increase mobility. All the seams are finished with waterproof tape for extra protection, and the front, pockets, and vents are all outfitted with waterproof zippers to ensure complete protection. The zipper is also lined with a lightweight flap to seal out the wind and finished with a soft garage and collar top to prevent chin irritation. Of course, the best fabrics in the world won't be very useful if they haven't been cut correctly. In the best cycling tradition, LG designed the Neoshell with a slim, saddle-friendly fit and a dropped back hem for full coverage when you're bent over the bars. A small band of silicone at the hem prevents it riding up, and articulated elbows and hook-and-loop cuffs allow uninhibited mobility without exposing your wrists to the elements. There are also two front vents to boost cooling, reflective details for increased visibility, and two zippered pockets for safekeeping of cash, cards, and snacks when you're on the road.

Louis Garneau Spire Convertible Cycling Jacket - Men's Louis Garneau Spire Convertible Cycling Jacket - Men's
We've arrived at the most difficult time of year, with blustery mornings giving way to clear, brisk afternoons and making layering decisions nigh impossible to find the perfect balance between over- and under-dressed. Enter Louis Garneau and its Men's Spire Convertible Cycling Jacket, blending cooling breathability and wind-resistant warmth to comfortably weather breezy fall mornings and early winter chill. When it warms up a bit more than expected, removable sleeves quickly detach and stow stealthily in a rear pocket so you can get to work on honing next year's razor sharp tan lines. Louis Garneau constructs this jacket using its Polartec Power Shield Pro material, featuring a three-ply construction with soft polyester sandwiching a polyurethane membrane and a water-repelling DWR surface treatment. This material isn't completely wind proof, but makes up for that small concession with significantly increased breathability compared to its wind proof compatriots. What little wind it does let through is said to channel into increased ventilation and faster drying, which means increased overall microclimate control. Strategically placed panels of soft, breathable Vertexx fabric serve to boost the Spire's breathability, further increasing comfort and minimizing clamminess during higher intensity efforts.

Louis Garneau Torrent RTR Jacket - Men's Louis Garneau Torrent RTR Jacket - Men's
The two absolute worst things about cycling in spring and fall are getting caught in the rain with nothing on but a thermal jersey and that niggling, unidentifiable creak that began broadcasting from somewhere in the vicinity of your bottom bracket back in summer. Louis Garneau has the first scenario covered with its Torrent RTR Men's Jacket, but as far as the creak goes (Is it the derailleur hanger' The rear hub' The bottom bracket bolt' A ventriloquist seatpost clamp'), you're on your own. The Torrent RTR is equipped with a 2. 5-layer Extenz softshell membrane, which is waterproof, windproof, breathable, and--most importantly for the shoulder season cyclist--extremely packable. It compresses into its own pocket, so you can stow it in a thermal jersey pocket and pull it out when the clouds inevitably roll in 30 minutes after you roll out under clear skies in early April. The Torrent RTR's packability would mean little if it had all the protective qualities of tissue paper, though, so the Extenz membrane remains the jacket's key feature. It's anti-element firepower is reinforced with sealed seams, two waterproof zippers, and a full-length draft flap, and a vent in the back helps offset the hit that breathability takes when water-resistance is maximized. The jacket is cut for layering, and articulated elbows and silicone grip at the hem help maintain reach and coverage. Finally, a chest clasp, keeps the jacket from flapping open if you want to unzip for a little more air flow.

Louis Garneau X-Lite Jacket - Men's Louis Garneau X-Lite Jacket - Men's
A light but resilient wind jacket like the Louis Garneau Men's X-Lite jacket is arguably the most useful top you can own. It can be a light layer for windy or only slightly chilly days. It can be an element-proof outer layer over a thicker jacket or long-sleeve jersey when the temperature drops or the rain approaches. And, since it's easily packable, it's easy to pull off and stuff into a jersey pocket when it's no longer needed. It's a smart piece, and it's worth every penny. The X-Lite's construction is simple and effective, using two fabrics from LG's X-Lite family. X-Lite 19 is the business end of the jacket. It's wind resistant, has a high denier for durability, and still manages to breathe well so your wind-free microclimate doesn't turn clammy and damp after 30 minutes in the saddle. X-Lite Mesh is a lightweight mesh designed for one thing: comfort. Well, and stretch. And breathability. OK, so it does lots of things, all of which make it the material you want for optimal ventilation, which is why LG uses panels of it for the X-Lite Jacket's underarms. The jacket is cut according to LG's pro fit, which means it's snug enough for racing and there's no extra material to flap in the wind that it's designed to block. The articulated elbows and stretch trim at the collar, wrists and hem mean you'll be able to move freely in the saddle -- including reaching into jersey pockets through the rear access back opening -- without compromising comfort. The full-length zipper has a neck garage to eliminate chafing, a full-length flap, and reflective accents. The chest and upper back have yet more reflective elements to help keep you visible in low-light conditions. The Louis Garneau X-Lite Men's Jacket is available in six sizes, ranging from X-Small to XX-Large, and in the colors Black/red, Orange Fluo, and White/black.

Mavic Aksium Thermo Jacket - Men's Mavic Aksium Thermo Jacket - Men's
The Aksium Thermo Men's Cycling Jacket isn't Mavic's most heavy-duty winter jacket (that'd be the Ksyrium Pro Thermo) or the lightest (that'd also be the Ksyrium Pro Thermo) but it provides the perfect balance of warmth, wind protection, smart features, and affordability, so you won't have to sacrifice that component upgrade you've been pining for just to stay warm this winter. The pillars of winter warmth are insulation and wind protection, and the Aksium delivers both with its Warm Shell Race fabric, which cuts the wind and traps heat while maintaining a soft, comfortable feel thanks to the thin microfleece lining. The microfleece also wicks moisture away from your skin so sweat doesn't build up, and the ergonomic seams give the Aksium a comfortable, easy-moving fit that won't irritate or restrict your motion. The details, as they say, are not just details -- they make the difference. In the case of the Aksium, those difference-makers include an asymmetrical zipper and soft fleece-lined collar to prevent chin irritation and reflective highlights for increased safety. There are three back pockets, a zippered chest pocket for a phone or wallet, and a routing port for easy management of headphones.

Mavic Cosmic Elite Thermo Jacket - Men's Mavic Cosmic Elite Thermo Jacket - Men's
Winter is cold and windy. That doesn't mean you have to hunker down inside and watch Paris-Roubaix highlights from the '90s while you dream of spring, though, because Mavic's Cosmic Elite Thermo Men's Jacket is designed to cut the wind and provide light insulation to take the bite out of chilly winter rides. By laminating a wind-blocking Warm Race Shell windproof membrane onto the soft polyester fabric, Mavic made the Cosmic Elite a jacket that's suited for hard riding in chilly conditions, although you'll probably want something heavier if you're riding in face-numbing cold. Despite being windproof, the Cosmic Elite manages to be plenty breathable as well. Its breathable nature, along with zippered ClimaVent vents at the sleeves, prevents the accumulation of clammy sweat. An additional stretch insert allows unlimited mobility, while a silicone gripper at the hem and stretchy Ergo cuffs ensure you'll stay covered and draft free when you're pedaling hard into headwinds. Reflective highlights help keep you visible, and a combination of drop-in back and zippered front pockets keep your bottles, food, and phone within easy reach.

Mavic Ksyrium Pro Thermo Jacket - Men's Mavic Ksyrium Pro Thermo Jacket - Men's
The first real snow of winter has blanketed the trees and covered the roads, but that's just an easy excuse for the weak-legged, faint-of-heart, fair-weather riders to head for the garage. For the dedicated and well-equipped, the cold weather means empty roads and increased solitude -- but it doesn't have to mean frostbite and suffering. Mavic's Ksyrium Pro Thermo Men's Jacket is a highly advanced technical piece for cold-weather riding, designed to take care of all the details so your torso rides happily even when your hands are going numb and your breath is freezing to your face. Staying warm in the saddle is difficult, because climbs, descents, sprints, and moderate-tempo stretches all require varying amounts of exertion; basically, you're in danger of sweating and then freezing solid. Mavic got around this issue by designing the Ksyrium with a removable thermal inner shell, so you can alter your insulation for a given ride. The inner shell is made of PrimaLoft Sport, a lightweight and high-warmth softshell fleece, and features a Warm Shell Wind windproof membrane to ensure that cold gusts don't suck the heat out of your engine. The lining of the inner jacket, Warm Wick ST+, ensures that sweat doesn't build up, because clammy moisture will only make you that much colder when you start to descend. On the outside, the Ksyrium is made with a combination of windproof and water-resistant nylon and polyester panels, which keep you warm in more moderate temperatures when you've removed the inner shell. A stretchy polyester insert ensures freedom of movement, while ergonomic seams follow the contours of your body to increase mobility and eliminate irritation. Zippered ClimaVent vents increase the jacket's breathability and cooling, while the locking asymmetrical zipper prevents chin irritation and lets you increase ventilation as needed. Nalini Double XWarm Jacket - Men's Nalini Double XWarm Jacket - Men's
The Nalini Men's Double XWarm Jacket was bred to shine on crisp, late fall days, when fog still pools in the valleys and the sun, try as it might, will never quite succeed at warming up the air. As your tires roll over carpets of leaves, those colder nights, earlier sunsets, and grayer skies hint at the end of race season, and the beginning of off-season diets and [mostly] diligent base mile training. The Double XWarm's three-layer Air Moa Xwarm shell takes you away from thermal jerseys and into the realm of heavier baselayers, wind tights, and shoe covers, all while maintaining the clean, classic Italian style Nalini delivers each season. Though this jacket features a three-layer construction, it remains impressively streamlined and light. Cut to follow your body movements in a riding position, the jacket follows Nalini's race fit, albeit one that's designed for layering in colder temps. The Air Moa Xwarm shell fabric comes with a Moa Manto W. R. T. treatment and a Moa Mantotex membrane, both proprietary finishes from Nalini, which equip it to repel fog, rain, and even the occasional snow shower with ease. The fabric also blocks wind, and added touches like a zipper wind flap and closely tailored collar aim to protect you when you have no choice but to ride directly into an icy headwind. In case the sun does manage to warm up the air, ventilation panels along the front of the jacket allow for extra airflow, while three rear pockets and ample reflective accents keep your stuff safe and you more visible to motorists when you're out on the roads.

Nalini Light Packable Wind Jacket - Men's Nalini Light Packable Wind Jacket - Men's
Riders blessed with stunning alpine passes and winding country roads are often at the whim of Mother Nature's volatile demeanor. One minute it's beaming pleasant sunshine and the next it's pouring rain, with whipping winds stealing precious body heat. Protecting you from unpredictable weather patterns, the Nalini Men's Light Packable Wind Jacket repels passing showers and bone-chilling breezes in a refined Italian design. Its stealth aesthetic flies under the radar, especially compared to jackets with loud graphics and bright color schemes. However, there's still plenty of visibility at night, thanks to generous use of reflective details along the hem, front pocket, and rear logo. Constructed primarily with Nalini's Air Moa fabric, the Light Packable Wind Jacket does just what its name suggests by fending off gusty drafts and crisp morning breezes without being bulky or soaking you in perspiration. A true testament to its packability, the jacket comes with a carrying pouch that's handy for stuffing in your rear jersey pocket. Moving on the rest of the jacket, the stretchable mesh insert along the upper back improves flex and breathability. And to repel passing showers and quick-moving storms, the Moa Manto W. R. T. beads off moisture before it can soak you to the core. This treatment also prevents dirt and oil build-up for maximum freshness on the road. Optimizing flexibility, raglan-cut sleeves promote full range of motion while the rest of the jacket exhibits a regular fit that's oriented for riding comfortably. The dropped rear hem adds coverage from road spray and passing showers, especially when you're in the drops. The elasticized waistband remains secure without riding up or migrating. Other functional design features include a generously sized zippered pocket and a high collar for added coverage on blustery rides.

Further enhancing its wet-weather protection, the Moa Manotex treatment beads off moisture without sacrificing breathability. The XRace sports an ergonomic, race-specific fit that's a bit tighter to eliminate excess flapping at high speeds. However, its raglan-cut sleeves retain full range of motion. Moving on to the jacket's functional features, the full-length zipper has a windproof flap that prevents gusts from stealing body heat. The thermotaped silicone waist ensures a secure fit without it riding up, especially on rapid descents. Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Aero WxB Jacket - Men's Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Aero WxB Jacket - Men's
Versatility is one of our prime considerations when choosing a cycling jacket, and the modularity of Pearl Izumi's cold and inclement-weather clothing means that items like the men's P. R. O. Aero WxB Jacket can fill multiple roles when combined with other elements. The jacket can be used on its own when rain is falling but the temperature hasn't followed suit, or it can be paired with a thermal layer for protection against the wind, rain, and cold. The jacket is made from Pearl's 2. 5-layer Barrier material, which provides wind and water protection without sacrificing stretch or breathability. While not insulating on its own, the jacket is well equipped to serve as an outer shell over a thermal layer. The elemental protection of Barrier fabric is nothing new or terribly notable -- after all, Pearl spreads it liberally across its cold-weather line. What does set this jacket apart is its cut, which is fine-tuned from the ergonomic collar to the shaped sleeve cuffs in order to provide a race-ready, flap-free fit even while you're stretched out on the handlebars. Some days, we enjoy going out for winter noodles to the coffee shop and back. Other days, we're on a base mile mission in preparation for spring. For the latter, Pearl Izumi's Select Escape Softshell Men's Jacket is one of the best dollar-per-mile options available, as its no-nonsense construction recommends it for one thing: carving a fitness base out of unforgiving, wintery conditions. The jacket's key feature is its 3-layer softshell membrane, which combines a windproof, water-resistant shield with breathability and thermal insulation. This material is occasionally relieved with panels of pure thermal material, which help regulate the temperature and conditions of your body's microclimate by allowing a bit more breathability than the softshell. PEdAL ED Saddle Packable Jacket - Men's PEdAL ED Saddle Packable Jacket - Men's
The Saddle Packable Jacket's lines pay tribute to the military fashion of the Great War's trench poets. PedalED also builds it from a windproof, water-resistant nylon/cotton blend, so the modern velo poet can enjoy the same type of protection from the elements worn by the likes of Sassoon and Owen at the front. Your lifestyle inspiration may not come from the impossible, romantic sublimity of No Man's Land, but with the cargo space of three pockets, you'll be able to carry enough supplies to draft your poetic sketches or landscape studies wherever inspiration does strike. In the event that road conditions degenerate to the level of a trench outside Ypres without duck boards, the addition of PedalED's NanoSphere treatment -- which the Japanese manufacturer claims is "self-cleaning" -- means the jacket does a respectable job of keeping most light to moderate moisture and grime at bay. As conditions improve, the jacket is also light enough to pack down and fit in a saddle bag, waiting in reserve until its services are needed again at the front.

POC Fondo Splash Jacket - Men's POC Fondo Splash Jacket - Men's
The stated aim of POC's Fondo line is to get back to the basic joy of cycling. The Fondo Splash Men's Jacket finds itself in the unenviable position of advocating for the love of the bike in conditions that most of us would, admittedly, rather not be caught in on two wheels. POC's solution' Pull the Fondo Splash out of your rear pocket, zip it on, and grin and bear it. Sheltering under the Splash Jacket's four-way stretch, water-repellent carapace is a sight less punishing than if you were in barely there Lycra alone. The material is perforated with laser cut ventilation holes, which keep water out while allowing a degree of breathability. The jacket doesn't breathe like the jersey's you'll cover it with, of course, but it will help you stay dry when the skies open up just as you begin the "back" portion of your out-and-back 50 miler. The jacket is finished with the kind of touches we've come to expect from the innovators at POC, including Lycra cuffs that extend coverage and maintain a close seal and a zippered rear pocket for goods you can't afford to be without while the Fondo Splash is obstructing access to jersey pockets. The drawstring hem helps ensure the jacket stays between your lower back and the weather, and a loop on the collar lets you hang it up so it dries quickly between uses. Finally, when the sun reappears, the Fondo Splash is light enough to stuff back into the jersey pocket from whence it came.

Showers Pass Rogue Hooded Jacket Showers Pass Rogue Hooded Jacket
If you commute by bike, you already know how important it is to have functional, thoughtful clothing in order to keep yourself covered once colder days roll around. The team at Showers Pass know this better anyone, which is why it came up with the Rogue Hooded Jacket. This cycling-specific softshell is both comfortable and versatile. It fits just like your favorite sweatshirt, except that it shrugs off light precipitation, and it won't turn into a sweat rag once you get pedaling. Your morning ride to work just got a little bit better. Showers Pass built the Rogue hooded jacket from a fleece-lined and waterproof softshell material. The 10,000mm waterproof rating means that it's as waterproof as most rain jackets, only way more comfortable. The fleece backing adds a touch of warmth, which makes it ideal for days when the mercury has dropped below about 50 degrees. And to continue this theme of warmth, Showers Pass also included an adjustable hood that fits over most helmets. The Rogue jacket is cut for logging time on the bike. Naturally, this means that there's a drop tail for deflecting wheel-spray and to keep your backside covered from the elements. The core has a conforming fit in order to keep flapping to a minimum, even when you're in the drops. The sleeves have been cut generously long in order to accommodate a stretched out position over the hoods, and the wrist gaiters have thumb loops that keep the sleeves from riding up. Further enhancing the functionality is a large zippered pocket at the back, which is accessible from the right side of the jacket. There's also reflective detailing throughout the construction that improves your visibility to motorists in critical low-light conditions. Lastly, there's a light loop by the back pocket that further enhances your chances of being seen. The Showers Pass Rogue Hooded Jacket is available in four sizes from Small to X-Large and in the colors Black and Bark Brown.

Showers Pass Skyline Softshell Jacket Showers Pass Skyline Softshell Jacket
Ideal for cooler temperatures, the Showers Pass Skyline Softshell Jacket is made from a three-layer softshell that's ideal for fall and spring riding. This fabric is both waterproof and highly breathable, so you'll be protected for anything from a drizzle to a downpour. For crisp and cold seasonal rides, the Skyline is your ticket to warmth, as well as element protection. The softshell breathes well enough to prevent overheating when pushing over mountains. And because it's super stretchy, the Skyline doesn't restrict movement as you shift from the drops to dancing on the pedals. While the Skyline's material selection provides an excellent range of motion and breathability, it also gets an added dose of ventilation for comfort during muggy afternoon heat. A full length front zipper, underarm zippers, and a flow-through vent at the back of the neck ensure that you won't have to pullover mid-ride to pull off the Skyline. Showers Pass Spring Classic Jacket - Men's Showers Pass Spring Classic Jacket - Men's
Knowing that Showers Pass named its Men's Spring Classic Jacket after the harshest series of races on the calendar should tell you something about what the brand equipped the jacket to handle. The pelting hail, sheets of rain, and incessant winds you've seen following your favorite pros across Europe in the spring are no match for the Spring Classic's three-layer eliteTM shell, which comes prepared to block out wind and rain without trapping heat like a greenhouse. Showers Pass used the material in hardshell form on the front and back for the most protection, but switched to eliteTM softshell along the arms and sides to preserve the freedom of movement you'll need in the saddle. Showers Pass describes the jacket as following a race fit, but we'd lean more toward describing it as regular: well-tailored, but with plenty of room left over for a baselayer or jersey underneath. Wisely placed core vents and an aptly described "exhaust pipe" vent along the back of the jacket keep air moving, without causing the dreaded billowing effect that no kit-conscious cyclist wants. Elastic at the waist and silicone along the drop hem help the rest of the jacket stay in place as you move around, and a lined collar adds a little touch of softness in unpleasant conditions. And in case the sun unexpectedly pushes the clouds aside mid-ride, the entire jacket stuffs into its own zippered rear pocket, so you can pack it up and get on your way.

Sportful Fiandre Light No-Rain Jacket - Men's Sportful Fiandre Light No-Rain Jacket - Men's
If rainy days were only limited to winter, then we wouldn't ever have rainy days. We'd only have snowy days. Since rain can threaten a bicycle ride year-round, Sportful doesn't just make rain jackets for sub-50 degree Fahrenheit riding. The Fiandre Light No-Rain Jacket is constructed for rain in cool -- but not cold -- weather with the option to add under-layers for precipitation on colder days. The jacket takes its name from one of its two fabrics, No-Rain Light. No-Rain Light is a Lycra-based fabric treated with Sportful's nanotech water repellent finish in order to make a water-resistant but stretchy and well-fitting fabric. This is used on the forearms and back to protect the areas most likely to be exposed to rain. It also grants more breathability than the more heavily insulated iterations of No-Rain material. It keeps all moisture, regardless of its origin, where you want it: off your skin. The other fabric is WindShield 3L, a stretchy, windproof material that Sportful employs for protection on the front, shoulders, and upper arms -- the places where you'll be catching the most wind. The fit is more relaxed and stretchy than Sportful's more insulated Fiandre No-Rain Jacket, which affords the opportunity to layer as conditions demand. Sportful makes judicious use of zippers and zipper-related tech by hiding the full-length front zipper under a wind flap and thoughtfully including zippered openings for access to jersey pockets that would otherwise languish under the jacket. Reflective strips on the lower back help keep you visible in low-light conditions. The Sportful Fiandre Light No-Rain Jacket - Men's is available in seven sizes ranging from X-Small to XXX-Large in the colors Black/red, Cyan/black, and Yellow fluo/black.

Sportful Gruppetto WS Partial Jacket - Men's Sportful Gruppetto WS Partial Jacket - Men's
Common sense would lead you to believe that a warm, windproof jacket isn't highly breathable and moisture wicking as well. Designed to turn that notion upside down, the Sportful Men's Gruppetto WindStopper Partial Jacket offers warmth, wicking, and windproof protection from the elements. This versatile three-season jacket is identical in fabric to the highly acclaimed Bodyfit Pro Jacket, except for the addition of ThermoDrytex XP along the back for high levels of breathability and increased moisture transport. By eliminating Lycra from its composition, ThermoDrytex XP quickly evacuates built-up perspiration in the form of water vapor. Ultimately, this enhances thermo-regulation for a pleasantly dry, comfortable feel, even on the fastest, most grueling rides of the year. The body of this jacket is constructed from WindStopper 4 Way Warm fabric for total windproof protection along the leading edges of the jersey (i. e. the side that bears the brunt of wind-resistance). This helps to keep your core temperature up when you're riding into strong headwinds and bone-chilling breezes in fall and spring months. Plus, as its name suggests, this fabric facilitates freedom of movement with its 4-way stretch characteristics. Along the jacket's cuffs, you'll find ThermoDryTex Plus for extra flexibility, thanks to its ample dose of Lycra. Other functional features include a full-length YKK Vislon zipper for proper ventilation, as well as three high-capacity rear pockets for cavernous storage of energy gels and extra layers.

Sportful set out to create a jacket that protects you when you need it and folds up into your pocket when you don't. The result: the Hot Pack Ultralight Jacket. Constructed from Superleggera, a 7 denier yarn fabric, the entire Hot Pack jacket weighs only 50grams. Yet, the weave is so tight that not only is it windproof, it is also highly water resistant. This quality is enhanced with a DWR (Durable Water Resistant) finish. It features laser-cut vents with reflective trim on the back and sides to help ventilate heat. The Hot Pack was cut to fit while in riding position and therefore the back and arms have been elongated. Elastic cuffs and hem, and a high collar help to seal out the elements. When the rain has stopped, it folds up into its own pouch and takes up less than half a jersey pocket. The Sportful Hot Pack Ultralight Jacket - Men's is available in sizes X-Small to XXX-Large and in the color Light gray.

SUGOi RS 180 Jacket - Men's SUGOi RS 180 Jacket - Men's
Sugoi is one of the few vendors we carry that--in our admittedly cold-tolerant opinion--recommends its cold-weather kit for suitably cold temperatures. Maybe it's because Sugoi is Canadian, so it's designers are used to cycling in temperatures more on par to what we experience while the Mediterranean brands are used to, well, Mediterranean conditions. Whatever the case, when Sugoi recommends the RS 180 Men's Jacket for "when the weather is hovering around freezing," we're inclined to agree. The jacket's title alludes to the key behind its cold-weather protection: 180 is a reference to the Firewall 180 material, which incorporates a wind-resistant laminate, a DWR-treated face fabric, and a brushed, thermal inner. The resulting membrane sandwich establishes a firewall against the elements by trapping body heat and protecting that trapped body heat from the wind-chill and precipitation that define winter cycling. As noted above, we feel that this combination is suitable for use in conditions into the 30s, but that range can be extended to below freezing with strategic layering. Since the jacket is cut according to Sugoi's Racing Series (RS) fit, it's not quite as layer-friendly as the brands more relaxed jackets; however--as with the temperature recommendations--our experience with Sugoi is that the fit differs from the Mediterranean brands. Race fit in Italy can mean cut to fit the micro-climbers of the Euro peloton, but Sugoi's race fit is cut more for an all-around athletic build. Firewall 180's accommodating stretch helps here, too, allowing a bit more flexibility for additional insulation. Sugoi makes heavier jackets (there's a Firewall 220 material), but we think the ability to layer makes the mid-weight RS 180 the most versatile option. The jacket is finished with a brushed collar lining to warm and protect your throat, and the two rear pockets zip closed to provide security and weather protection to your cargo. The RS 180 is also finished with reflective det...

SUGOi RS Jacket - Men's SUGOi RS Jacket - Men's
Ready for fast-moving fronts and intermittent showers, the Sugoi Men's RS Jacket conveniently packs into its own pouch for deployable protection from the wind and rain. Its lightweight woven shell is wind and water-resistant, shedding passing showers and blocking blustery conditions from chilling your core on longer rides. Its ergonomic patterning provides a performance-orientated design with tapered sleeves and a fitted body for enhanced aerodynamics. Offering super-convenient, highly packable protection, the jacket's back zippered pocket not only holds your energy gels and small accessories while you're riding, but it also acts as a self-folding pouch that fastens under your seat with its adjustable hook-and-loop straps. This makes storing your jacket a snap when conditions don't warrant extra protection, also providing on-the-fly, deployable protection when sudden storms threaten your cycling session.

SUGOi RS Zap Jacket - Men's SUGOi RS Zap Jacket - Men's
With the RS Zap Men's Jacket, Sugoi combines two of our favorite elements of the brand's catalogue. The first is the water-resistant, aggressively reflective Zap material, which has established itself as the standard for inclement-weather cycling over the past several years. The second is the race-minded fit and articulation of the Racing System (RS) line of cycling clothing. When these powers combine, the result is a jacket cut according to Sugoi's Pro Fit that packs an anti-weather, high-viz wallop. The jacket's Zap material may be the headliner, but it follows a very impressive opening act in the form of a relatively flap-free, ready-to-race fit. The combination of the two means the jacket keeps water at bay, reflects light like a fiery beacon, and fits less like the shapeless rain capes of yesteryear and more like the summer-weight racing jerseys we prefer to spend our time in. The materials also breathe more like those summer jerseys, so keeping the rain out doesn't mean trapping our own perspiration in. The astute reader will notice the plural "materials," and that's because Sugoi supplements the RS Zap Jacket's titular fabric with MidZero inserts under the arms. This adds a bit of stretch--which is necessary considering the aggressive fit--and also boosts breathability compared to the Zap commuter jacket. That additional breathability comes in handy here because the RS fit is for serious training and hard efforts. Those exertions create more of a risk of accumulating clammy moisture than a low-effort commute pace, so the jacket's intended use demands more efficient breathability. This also means the RS version's seams aren't taped, which makes it less waterproof but--again--lets it breathe more, further recommending it for competitive use.

SUGOi RSE Alpha Bike Jacket - Men's SUGOi RSE Alpha Bike Jacket - Men's
Running and cycling gear have a lot in common, like the need to be breathable, flexible, feature-rich, and streamlined, so it's not surprising that Sugoi's RSE Alpha Men's Bike Jacket is really just an altered version of its award-winning, weather-proven Alpha Hybrid running jacket. It uses the same fabrics and similar design, with a cycling-specific cut and details that make it more at home on the bike. The foundation of the Alpha is Micro Pro, a thermally efficient and breathable fabric that delivers surprising warmth in a thin, mobile package. It also sheds wind and resists moisture, so chilly breezes and light rain won't turn you into an icicle before you've ridden 10 miles. By lining the jacket with Polartec Alpha insulation, Sugoi makes sure it delivers enough warmth to keep you comfortable on chilly days, and it included ultra-breathable MidZero fabric at the sides, arms, and center back to increase ventilation and reduce moisture buildup during high-energy rides. Of course, a cycling shell is only as good as its details, so Sugoi loaded the Alpha up with all the essentials. The high, contoured collar and asymmetrical front zipper seal in heat without irritating your chin and neck, and the zippered back and chest pockets hold your riding essentials securely. A significantly lower back hem provides full coverage when you're in an aggressive riding position, hook-and-loop cuff closures seal out water and drafts, and plenty of reflective details help you make it home safely in the evening.

SUGOi RSE NeoShell Jacket - Men's SUGOi RSE NeoShell Jacket - Men's
When it comes to outerwear, cyclists have traditionally had two choices--enjoy the stretch and ventilation of a thermal jersey and risk rain penetration, or opt for the superior waterproof properties of a rain jacket and risk clamminess and a limited range of motion. Sugoi's RSE NeoShell Men's Jacket combines the best properties of both by being waterproof, flexible, and breathable to tackle all of the conundrums presented by inclement weather. Polartec NeoShell is marketed as the world's most breathable softshell, courtesy of its micro-pore fabric, but that doesn't mean that it won't keep you bone dry. In addition to a waterproof polyurethane finish, the hardface fabric sheds water as efficiently as a classic hardshell, but offers far more stretch and mobility than standard laminated constructions. Nylon panels at the front of the RSE help block wind, so you don't freeze, and they work with the polyester back to wick vapor away from your skin before it condenses into clammy water. Staying dry equals staying warm, which means the RSE is a more effective cold-weather layer than its weight and thickness might initially indicate. Of course, a cycling shell is only as good as its details, so Sugoi loaded the RSE up with all the essentials. The high contoured collar and asymmetrical front zipper seal in heat without irritating your chin and neck, and the zippered back pockets include a media port for easy cable routing for your headphones or radio. A significantly lower back hem provides full coverage when you're in an aggressive riding position, hook-and-loop cuff closures seal out water and drafts, and plenty of reflective details help you make it home safely in the evening.

SUGOi RSX NeoShell Jacket - Men's SUGOi RSX NeoShell Jacket - Men's
The old paradigm of waterproof breathable jackets was fraught with compromise, as breathability rapidly declined when waterproof levels increased. Here to revolutionize waterproof breathable cycling jackets, the Sugoi Men's RSX NeoShell Jacket is "The most breathable waterproof cycling jackets on the market." After rigorous testing in the temperate rainforests of coastal British Columbia, Sugoi made the RSX NeoShell Jacket to keep you nice and dry while breathing extraordinarily well during heavy rains with exceptionally high humidity levels. The big story is undoubtedly the NeoShell construction. Sugoi teamed up with Polartec to design the RSX NeoShell Jacket, incorporating Polartec's most advanced hard shell membrane/laminate construction for unprecedented breathability for a fully waterproof jacket. This jacket uses convection (the transport of air) for breathability, instead of relying on diffusion of built-up heat and water vapor like all other hard shell membrane/laminates on the market. You'll find its active air exchange rating of 0. 5-cubic-feet-per-minute (cfm) is significantly higher than the next leading competitor's, without being high enough to chill your core. In fact, this jacket remains virtually windproof (blocks 99. 9% of wind), while allowing just enough passing air through to evaporate built-up water vapor from heavy perspiration. This jacket features fully taped seams and a 10,000mm waterproof rating, making it more than sufficient for a wide range of conditions ranging from light rain to the heaviest showers and thunderstorms. Its detachable hood offers stowable protection from the elements, securing with hook-and-loop attachments. Pack-interface pockets make for easy storage and retrieval of snacks, tools, and accessories when you're wearing a hydration pack on the trail. Additionally, you'll find two media-compatible pockets with cord routing for seamless audio integration.

SUGOi Versa Jacket - Men's SUGOi Versa Jacket - Men's
You rolled out pre-dawn, but by 10:00 a. m. the sun was out and the temperature was climbing rapidly as you kept up the pace. With most jackets, your only option is to unzip all the way and let the cape flap awkwardly, or you strip it off and try unsuccessfully to jam it into a jersey pocket. With Sugoi's Versa Jacket, however, you're in luck -- just pop the sleeves off and now you've got the vest you need for the warming day. The Versa Jacket is constructed from Sugoi's Argon fabric. It's made from woven ripstop, which creates a barrier between you and the elements while also being exceptionally durable. Argon is water and wind resistant, but at the same time breathable, so you'll stay warm and dry. This a stylish and protective piece for cycling, running, or cross-country skiing. The fabric construction isn't the only thing that makes the Versa Jacket great. As mentioned, the sleeves are removable, attaching magnetically to the jacket to help you adapt the jacket to your workout. When you start your ride with the sleeves and don't need them anymore, simply slip them off and stow them away in the single back zip pocket or one of the two comfortable front zip pockets. Adjustable cuffs cinch down over your gloves to keep heat in. Soft microfleece lining around the collar keeps your neck warm and doesn't abrade the skin. To keep air from sneaking in the bottom, dual shockcords, accessed from the pocket, allow you to pull the hem closer to your body. To let heat out, simply reverse the process. Reflective graphic detail throughout the jacket gives you 360-degrees of visibility during grey winter days and low light. The Sugoi Versa Jacket is available in five sizes, from Small through XX-Large, and in the colors Supernova, True Blue, and Matador.

SUGOi Zap Bike Jacket - Men's SUGOi Zap Bike Jacket - Men's
It's dusk, overcast, and lightly drizzling. You want to get in a spin after work to clear your head and loosen up your legs. We all make this decision, and we all occasionally make the mistake of going out without proper reflective gear, putting ourselves in unnecessary danger in low-light conditions. With the advent of Sugoi's spectacularly redesigned Zap Bike Jacket, we no longer have an excuse for flouting safety. This new jacket premiers what Sugoi is calling, alternately, Pixel or Zap Woven fabric. This fabric incorporates micro-glass beads into the actual material. Before Sugoi's Pixel, our only recourse in low-light situations has been a few strips of reflective material that, hopefully, catch headlights or street lamps at the right time. Even previous iterations of the Zap Bike Jacket were only given reflective highlights. But with Pixel, the entire jacket is reflective, from collar to cuff, shoulder to hem. The Zap Bike Jacket also provides a high degree of less-revolutionary but equally appreciated water resistance thanks to its polyurethane component, and its exaggerated sleeves and rear hem keep your wrists dry and protect your back and saddle from the rooster tail of water that'll be pinwheeling off your rear tire in the rain. (Your riding buddies remain unprotected -- but, if they don't like it, remind them that they can always take a pull or get off your wheel.) The full-length front zip is waterproof and the seams are taped to make sure there are no leaks. The rear pocket also zips shut to protect your personal effects.

SUGOi Zap Bike Jacket - Men's SUGOi Zap Bike Jacket - Men's
It seems that, every year, more of our kit drawer turns black. This trend is especially prevalent in inclement weather gear, which may look stealth on the start line but feels a bit understated for training rides or commutes through low-light city streets. The men's Zap Bike Jacket is Sugoi's solution to stealth kit syndrome. It sheathes the foul-weather cyclist in a waterproof, wind-resistant membrane that is all-over reflective when hit with artificial light. It's just a normal color in daytime, but when headlights catch it, it catches attention. As with the previous Zap models, this jacket incorporates micro-glass beads into the actual material. Before Zap, our only recourse in low-light situations has been a few strips of reflective material that hopefully catch headlights or street lamps at the right time. Even previous iterations of the Zap Bike Jacket were only given reflective highlights. But with Pixel, the entire jacket is reflective, from collar to cuff, shoulder to hem. (Your riding buddies remain unprotected--but, if they don't like it, remind them that they can always take a pull or get off your wheel.) In the even that the skies clear or the jacket proves too protective, Sugoi has integrated zippered side vents that are surprisingly effective at dumping heat while you're in motion. Protection is the Zap's primary role, though, so the full-length front zip is waterproof and the seams are taped to make sure there are no leaks. The flap covered rear pocket adds security that helps keep your key in and the rain out.

Troy Lee Designs Ace II Windbreaker - Men's Troy Lee Designs Ace II Windbreaker - Men's
You've finally reached the top of a grueling hour-long climb. As you get off your bike to grab a snack out of your pack, you notice that the elevation gain and about a quart of sweat has suddenly made things pretty chilly. You reach for your Troy Lee Designs Ace II Windbreaker. Suddenly you remember that you lent it to your sister's boyfriend last night so he could walk to the store to get you beer and he never gave it back. What a revolting development. The Ace II's 100% nylon outer shell would have no trouble fending off the chilly breeze that currently has you gritting your teeth. The polyester front lining and rear panel would keep things breathable, though, so you would dry off, even wearing the jacket. Elastic sleeve and cuff bindings keep the jacket in place, even during a face-melting downhill like the one in front of you, and the three rear pockets are nice for those days when your ride is short enough that you don't need a pack. All of this is irrelevant, though, because your jacket is somewhere down at the bottom of this downhill, and it's gonna be a cold ride. You drop in, with only the hatred for your sister's boyfriend to keep you warm.
