Brooks England B17 Standard Saddle - Men's Brooks England B17 Standard Saddle - Men's
Urban cycling (like cycling in general, to be fair) is all about blending form with function, and nobody does that better than Brooks England. Its B17 Standard Men's Saddle is the epitome of this design philosophy, and Brooks has been making it for over 100 years, so it's not surprising that the company has the B17 pretty much dialed. The full-grain leather cover helps keep the saddle from overheating on warm days, and is designed to conform slowly to your anatomy over long periods of riding, so you'll end up with a nearly custom fit after a few months. The B17's steel rails are strong and absorb road vibrations, and the saddle's wide tail and abrupt taper help provide a solid pedaling platform while eliminating rubbing and discomfort.

Brooks England B67 S Aged Saddle - Women's Brooks England B67 S Aged Saddle - Women's
The Brooks B67S Aged Saddle offers out-of-the-box comfort for your city riding needs. Due to its leather construction, it still has the long-wearing durability you'd expect from Brooks. And thanks to its steel springs, it offers considerably more comfort than other saddles designed for upright riding postures, especially on uneven road surfaces.Brooks forms the B67S saddle out of leather, just as it has for nearly 150 years. The "Aged" designation means that it's built from pre-softened leather, helping you to avoid the notorious break-in period that leather saddles require. It's attached to the base at the fore and aft of the saddle with brass rivets. The rails reach back to dual steel springs, which act as suspension when riding rigid bikes on imperfect city roads. This being the women's version, it has a slightly shorter nose, which better accommodates female anatomy. The 205mm tail width offers a great deal of support for bikes with an upright riding position. The Brooks B67S Aged Saddle is available in one size, and in the color Dark Tan.

Brooks England C13 Cambium Saddle Brooks England C13 Cambium Saddle
The classic Brooks England aesthetic of leather and rivets is steeped in a history synonymous with vintage steel steeds and tweed-adorned cycling festivities. In a departure from the traditional leather, the Cambium line of saddles pairs those venerable aesthetics and renowned comfort with a more modern, cotton-covered rubber shell worthy of an elbow patch pairing but light enough to sit atop a featherweight racing whip. The Brooks England C13 Cambium Saddle has a sleek, race-inspired profile and weighs in at a claimed 150g less than the much-loved C15 Cambium with carbon rails. The shell of the C13 is built with natural gum rubber, which dampens vibration and boasts just the right amount of flex and spring to comfortably support and conform to a body throughout the pedal stroke. That comfort is of particular note, as the smooth ride of the Brooks England leather saddles sets an incredibly high bar for the Cambium to match. The cover is a treated organic cotton canvas that resists the elements and breaks in -- rather than wears out -- with miles. The two layers are vulcanized, forming them into a single piece that will remain intact for the life of the saddle. This shell rests on a continuous carbon fiber rail, providing a lightweight platform that maintains the shape of the saddle as the miles and years roll by.

Brooks England C15 Cambium Brooks England C15 Cambium
The Brooks C15 Cambium saddle shares the same timeless design of natural rubber and woven material that sets Brooks apart from the crowd of jet black saddles with no personality. Compared to the original Brooks C17, the C15 saddle is 10 grams lighter and 22 millimeters narrower. This makes it more suited to the fast, tight pedaling styles of cyclists who skew toward the competitive side of the spectrum. Like other Cambiums, the C15 shares the same three-layer construction that begins with a section of natural rubber. After being vulcanized, the rubber's upper face is covered with organic cotton and a firm textile layer for a durable and comfortable face. The saddle body flexes at the wings and between the rails' contact points to support your sit bones and cushion your perineum.

Brooks England C15 Cambium Carved Saddle Brooks England C15 Cambium Carved Saddle
Brooks designers made a notable departure from their signature leather saddles when they introduced their Cambium line, and the positive feedback they received from the vegan-friendly saddles was enough to expand the line to include the C15 Cambium Carved. Addressing the perineal discomfort often experienced by cyclists, the brand with a long history of comfort added a pressure-relieving cutout to the middle of this saddle. The cutout is the same design used in Brooks' Imperial line, resulting in a best-of-both-worlds scenario for the Cambium Carved. Brooks decided to stick with its durable, treated organic cotton cover for this model, which is stretched over a natural rubber base. The two layers are fused together to create a long-lasting single vulcanized layer that sits over die-cast aluminum tubular steel rails, forming a vibration-minimizing hammock that makes long rides feel short. While the C17 Cambium saddles had a wider width for race saddles, the Cambium Carved returns to the more standard slimmer design of a race saddle with a width of 140mm. The standard saddle length of 283mm accommodates most riders, and thanks to the cutout, the Cambium Carved weighs in lighter than the rest of the line at around 395g.

Brooks England C17 Cambium Saddle - Men's Brooks England C17 Cambium Saddle - Men's
The Brooks C17 Cambium Saddles are a massive, tectonic-plate-shifting departure from the venerable saddle maker. Why' Because they're not leather. Brooks made its name over the last century making the best leather saddles on the planet. Even as other saddle makers adopted microfibers, foams, gels, and other modern materials, Brooks remained steadfast. Now, though, they've developed a rubber/canvas construction technique that offers all the benefits of their leather saddles in a weather- and vegan-friendly package. The shell of the saddle is a natural rubber, which is vulcanized to a cotton canvas topper. The break-in period for a Brooks saddle is nearly as legendary as the saddles themselves, and the Cambiums are a bit different, though special care should still be taken. The rubber needs very little breaking in -it should be quite comfortable out of the box. The canvas topper, however, is a bit rough, and will abrade Lycra shorts quickly and severely. For this reason, we recommend breaking this saddle in on a more casual bike (one that you'd wear jeans on) before putting it on a bike that will see Lycra time.

Brooks England C19 Cambium Saddle Brooks England C19 Cambium Saddle
The Brooks England leather hammock design and accompanying rivets are synonymous with classic cycling, living on through tweed rides and race rigs alike. The Cambium line carries on Brooks' storied tradition, classic aesthetics, and renowned comfort while swapping out the leather for a more modern, weather-friendly, cotton-covered rubber shell. Designed with more casual rides in mind, the Brooks England C19 Cambium Saddle is the widest of the Cambium family, offering stylish support for more upright riding positions. The shell of the C19 is built with natural gum rubber, which dampens vibration and boasts just the right amount of flex and spring to conform to your anatomy as you pedal. That comfort is of particular note, as the smooth ride of the Brooks' leather saddles sets an incredibly high bar for the Cambium to match. The cover is a treated organic cotton canvas that resists the elements and softens with miles, yielding an exceptionally comfortable ride feel. The two layers are vulcanized, forming them into a single piece that will remain intact for the life of the saddle. This shell rests on die cast aluminum blocks and tubular steel rails, which serve to maintain the shape of the saddle as the miles and years roll by.

Brooks England Cambium C13 Carved Saddle Brooks England Cambium C13 Carved Saddle
Taking its uniquely flexible shell and channel cut-out directly from the Cambium C17 Carved Saddle, the Brooks England Cambium C13 Carved Saddle provides an optimal balance of shock absorption and pressure relief that takes the sting off jarring asphalt, bumpy cobbles, and off-road surfaces. This saddle features a vulcanized rubber shell carved in a distinctive hammock shape for a damping effect when you're pedaling across punishing roads and trail surfaces. It's catered to adventure cyclists, endurance racers, and off-road explorers seeking the legendary comfort and refined aesthetic you've come to love from Brooks England Saddles, but without compromising longevity in gritty to downright nasty conditions. In fact, the organic cotton canvas shell is finished with a waterproof treatment to repel flinging dirt and raging downpours from ruining its beautiful aesthetic and functional comfort. Unlike the aluminum-railed C17 version it's based on, the Cambium C17 Carved Saddle employs full carbon rails for significant weight savings in the neighborhood of 105 to 150 grams, depending on the saddle width. Not only does this make the Cambium C13 Carved Saddle worthy of your lightweight road steed or gravel grinder, but it's also beneficial for the improved shock absorption of carbon over its aluminum counterpart.

Brooks England Cambium Saddle - Women's Brooks England Cambium Saddle - Women's
Brooks may be best known for its line of leather saddles, but the British saddle wizards have outdone themselves with the Cambium Women's Saddle. Forgoing the leather hammock construction that made the brand iconic, the Cambium opts instead for a natural rubber base, topped with an organic cotton cover. The resulting saddle has the comfort you've come to expect from Brooks, in a vegan-friendly package that's strikingly modern. The base of the Cambium is built from natural gum rubber, which has a comfortable spring, and naturally dampens vibration. This is especially important for a saddle bearing the Brooks name, as the smooth ride of the brand's leather saddles sets an incredibly high bar for the Cambium to match. The cover is an organic cotton canvas, which softens with miles, yielding an incredibly comfortable ride feel. The two layers are vulcanized, forming them into a single piece that will remain intact for the life of the saddle. This shell rests on die cast aluminum blocks, which maintain the shape of the saddle. This being the women's version, it has a slightly shorter nose, which better accommodates female anatomy. Also, leather is porous and allows for ventilation, so these seats feel comfortably cool on hot days. Ergon SMC3 Comp Saddle Ergon SMC3 Comp Saddle
In contrast to its race-oriented SMR3 line, Ergon developed its SMC mountain saddles for riders who don't want to spend every trail ride on an unforgiving carbon shelf but who don't want to ride the equivalent of a throw pillow on a stick. The SMC3 Comp Saddle's titanium rails place it in the middle of the line, with the same shell shape and AirCell cushioning as its siblings and an overall focus on ensuring that a mega-sore ass is never the reason your rides have to end early. Inspired by the thought of riders pedaling their bikes on long tours and rides with no time limits over miles of rolling, rocky trails that resemble a stegosaurus' back, the SMC3 Comp features a fiberglass composite shell perched atop light, dependable, TiNox rails. TiNox is a blend of stainless steel and titanium that's produced in a single, Austrian factory. The blend is actually lighter than standard titanium, but it retains the strength of the wonder alloy. So it's more wonderier. The shell's AirCell padding consists of micro pockets of air that absorb fatiguing trail noise, while a soft, microfiber cover provides a smooth layer against Lycra or baggies and protects the saddle's internals from the elements. Although the saddle is plush, it retains a streamlined shape and weighs a claimed 235g. It's finished with a pressure-relief channel down the center, which creates a well-executed blend of relief and support that won't interfere with power transfer.

Ergon SMC3 Pro Saddle Ergon SMC3 Pro Saddle
Comparing a comfortable, touring saddle and a light, stiff race saddle doesn't have to resemble putting a pillow and a brick side by side. It can, but manufacturers like Ergon have managed to construct saddles that focus on comfort without sacrificing a race-able weight. If a cozier tush during everyday dirt sessions is on your mind, give the Ergon SMC3 Pro Saddle a look. As the lightest, highest-end offering in Ergon's mountain-specific SMC3 line, the SMC3 Pro comes with a smart construction that adds cush without grams. Explore unknown singletrack or punch over rocky cruxes to maintain a gap in your weeknight race series without the post-ride soreness with the SMC3 Pro. Ergon sets the SMC3 Pro apart from its more budget-friendly siblings by using a carbon composite shell atop its lightweight TiNox rails. TiNox is a blend of stainless steel and titanium that's only produced in a single factory in Austria. The blend is actually lighter than standard titanium, but it retains the strength of the wonder alloy, making it an even better choice for racing kit like the SMC3 Pro. In addition to reducing the saddle's weight to a claimed 220g--15g lighter than the SMC3 Comp. When combined with a layer of Ergon's AirCell padding, the shell creates a saddle that acts as a reliable barrier against bumps and harsh trail noise. Unlike its siblings, the SMC3 Pro also boasts a silicone-treated nose to reduce hang-ups, and its shape reduces chafing and guarantees ample leg clearance. Like the other SMC3 models, the Pro is finished with a pronounced pressure-relief channel down the center to achieve a balance of support and relief.

Ergon SR3 Pro Saddle Ergon SR3 Pro Saddle
Like the range-topping road saddle from Ergon, the SR3 Pro Saddle shares the attention-to-detail expected from this German company. This means that you'll find the same respected shape, in three separate widths, as the Pro Carbon in order to ensure the long-ride support that's only achievable through an individual, personalized fit. What's different, conversely, is hollow TiNox rails that are used in place of carbon in the Pro Carbon saddle. And, while this may add a little weight to the SR3 Pro, it still filters out smaller vibrations to help retain Ergon's overall goal of an excellent ride quality. The main culprit for those traits, however, is the ultra-thin carbon fiber shell. At a quick glance, it's pretty obvious that the SR3 has a distinctive shape. And that's not the result of an industrial designer's assumption of what looks good. It's actually the result of extensive finite element method analysis that maps loads and areas of stress. This allowed Ergon to tune the shell construction for optimized deflection. The carbon shell is actually 3D, and it features "hollows" that provide controlled flex at the sit bones. Covering the shell are progressive dampening layers that are individual to the different saddle widths. Every size option gets its own layering for rider-specific compression. Adding to the SR3's chatter-smoothing ability, is a nose mounted micro damper. This damper, located in between the shell and TiNox rails, filters out smaller vibrations, and it works in conjunction with the isolated rear mounting to allow the shell to float independent of the rails. The result is one of the most forgiving saddles on the market. Additionally, the rails provide 30mm of adjustment for proper fitting. The SR3 also has an easy-to-clean synthetic leather cover -- just wipe it off with a damp rag. But more important than saddle hygiene is its silicone side coating. This reduces chafing, always a good thing, and it also ensures that riders are able to effortles...

Ergon SRX3 Saddle Ergon SRX3 Saddle
Ergon sets its SRX3 line of saddles apart from traditional road saddle designs with a pronounced V-shape, giving road cyclists and cyclocross racers more opportunity to shift on the saddle as they move through different pedaling postures. The SRX3 Saddle occupies the entry-level space in that line, featuring the same shape as its pricier siblings paired with a mix of more affordable materials. If you're looking to branch into a different saddle shape for your road bike or are trying to outfit a 'cross bike with a saddle designed to accommodate the variety of positions you'll occupy throughout a race, the SRX3 is a practical investment. The SRX3 is constructed with a blend of common materials that include CroMo steel rails and a fiberglass composite shell, but the AirCell padding atop the saddle is less common. Proprietary to Ergon, AirCell features layers of tiny air pockets that absorb harsh road vibrations and provide support whether you're mashing on grass or spinning along your favorite road loop. Additional support comes in the form of the slight upturn at the rear of the SRX3, included to make it easier for riders to push back into the saddle and send an added burst of power to the pedals while climbing or grinding through a sandpit. The saddle anticipates quick dismounts at barriers and ahead of run-ups, and its overall flat topography was designed to make the process as smooth as possible.

Fabric Alm Ultimate Saddle Fabric Alm Ultimate Saddle
One look at the Fabric ALM Ultimate Saddle and you'll know it's unlike any saddle you've ever tried. ALM stands for Additive Layer Manufacturing -- the prototype was developed using 3D printing. This technique allowed Fabric to create a saddle that would have previously been impossible to manufacture. The rail and base of the ALM saddle are carbon fiber. This provides a lightweight chassis. The organic shape of the saddle lends much more than aesthetics. Because of their unique shape and placement, the rails work like leaf springs to suspend the rider and absorb vibration and road shock. Fabric uses a high-density polyurethane foam for padding and vibration-absorption. A waterproof microfiber shell is vacuum-bonded in place to finish the ALM. Please note: rider weight is limited to 100kg (220lbs).

Fabric Cell Elite Saddle Fabric Cell Elite Saddle
We'll say it: Fabric's Cell Elite Saddle doesn't look much like most of the saddles on Competitive Cyclist. It it gel' Is it squishy' Both were questions we had when we first took a look at it, and we can answer that yes, it is somewhat squishy, but no, it's not made of gel. We can also say that like everything newcomer Fabric has given us thus far, the Cell Elite delivers striking modern aesthetics and simple functionality that belies its accessible price. Grab one now if your commuter saddle isn't cutting it and see what we're so excited about. Fabric built the Cell Elite for commuters, correctly assuming that their needs are different than those of recreational and competitive cyclists. Commuters generally occupy a more upright position, so Fabric shaped the Cell Elite to a more forgiving 155mm width to accommodate that distinction. Cell cushioning--that squishy material that so surprises cyclists long accustomed to rigid race shelves--uses air spring technology to add support and relief without absorbing every last bit of energy you're trying to put in the pedals. Fabric borrowed the tech from the running industry, so if you pound pavement when you're not on your bike, you'll understand the springy feeling Fabric hopes to achieve in the Cell Elite. Solid steel rails, a durable nylon shell, and a waterproof rubber cover round out this worthwhile investment in your commuting setup.

Fabric Line Race Saddle Fabric Line Race Saddle
A relatively new player in the saddle game, UK-based Fabric has been seriously impressing us with its budget-minded saddles as of late. Built with clean lines and efficient materials, the saddles don't look or feel like the cheaper option; instead, they're well-executed, practical designs. Each of the five saddle families the company makes is constructed with a different purpose in mind, with the Line saddles entrusted with the goal of improving long-ride comfort. Slim and lithe, the Line Race Saddle comes with a pressure relief channel along its entire 270mm body that aims to reduce numbness and improve circulation on long days. You don't have to exclusively spend more than six hours in the saddle for every ride to experience the effects of poor bloodflow and inefficient weight distribution out on the roads. Whether you ride an hour a week or are logging as many miles as you can fit in, the Line Race's blend of subtle foam cushioning atop a nylon base helps to limit road chatter and reduce fatigue for however long you're outside. Calling the Line Race's nylon base "flexible" may give the wrong impression, but it's a relative comparison we're aiming to make. Next to some of the masochistic carbon race shelves we've seen, the Line Race is undeniably flexible, but it doesn't yield so much to your body movements as to inhibit your efficiency or power transfer. The saddle itself sits atop hollow titanium alloy rails, which lend impressive strength and the promise of durability to the setup without adding much weight, and a waterproof microfiber cover wraps around the entire saddle. Soft and supple, the cover protects the saddle's internals from the elements while providing a smooth interface between itself and your bib shorts.

The Fabric Scoop Pro saddle is simple. It's lightweight and it's tough. The Scoop comes in four varieties: Elite, Race, Pro, and Ultimate. The Scoop Pro starts with carbon fiber rails and a nylon base. Fabric says its Scoop Saddle is "designed for everyone," and that's exactly what it is. Like many of today's bicycle saddles, the Scoop is designed to work with road, mountain, or cyclocross bikes. Unlike many of today's saddles, however, the Scoop gives you options for fit, feel, and style. You can choose between two different base materials for the Scoop saddle: nylon or carbon fiber. The Scoop Pro comes with a flexible nylon base. This base is both lightweight and comfortable. The Scoop also offers three different rail material options. The Pro model comes with Fabric's 9mm oval carbon fiber rails, which are both the lightest and stiffest in the line. The Scoop saddle comes in three different shapes, which vary in curvature from tip to tail. The three shapes are Flat, Shallow, and Radius. Which saddle you choose depends on which saddle is most comfortable for your body type. Fabric Scoop Race Saddle Fabric Scoop Race Saddle
Replacing your stock saddle certainly can mean investing a significant amount of money, but it doesn't have to. We commend brands like UK-based Fabric for crafting saddles out of affordable materials that are accessible to a range of self-sponsored cyclists. The brand's Scoop line fits this description aptly, and Fabric fittingly makes it in three different shapes to accommodate different riding styles. If you're racing, the Scoop Flat has the aggressive profile you're looking for to pair with your slammed frame geometry. If being in an "aero" position no longer holds much appeal for you, the Scoop Shallow encourages a more natural body position in the saddle as you duck into your drops and onto your hoods over the course of a ride. And if you're commuting and favor comfort and practicality over speed, the Scoop Radius' upright orientation is ideal. While each saddle's shaping varies significantly, Fabric keeps construction the same throughout, using a nylon base engineered to flex so that you don't feel every pebble or piece of road grit you ride over. The forgiving nylon sits atop hollow titanium-alloy rails, which manage to be both durable and light without nudging the saddle's price to extreme heights. Though Fabric favors minimal designs for the Flat and the Shallow models, both come with the same foam cushioning as their more forgiving sibling, the Radius. The padding adds some long-ride comfort and helps to absorb road noise, but Fabric demonstrates restraint when using it to make sure you won't feel as though you're perched atop a pillow. Finally, a loyal waterproof microfiber cover protects the internals from the often cruel elements, equipping the Scoop to become a fixture on your frame for the rides, races, and commutes to come.

Fabric Tri Race Saddle Fabric Tri Race Saddle
Clean, modern aesthetics and refreshingly affordable prices: UK-based newcomer Fabric hasn't taken long to attract well-deserved attention from the glossies for its saddles' functionality, and we're thrilled to see the brand getting its due. For 2017, it expanded its line of tri-specific saddles to include three different rail materials to accommodate everyone from novice triathletes to dedicated semi-pros. The Tri Race Saddle caters to those somewhere in the middle of the above categories. It's built on durable, lightweight titanium rails, features Fabric's signature waterproof microfiber cover, and comes shaped to complement tri and TT bike geometry. Aside from rail material, and subsequently weight, nothing separates each of the saddles in Fabric's Tri line. A short, wide shape better supports your nether regions in the flatter, stretched-out body position in which tri and TT bikes situate riders, and Fabric thoughtfully includes features like a bike hanger and rear bottle mount to help streamline transition area setups and race day hydration. The Race comes with a nylon base that allows for comfort-enhancing flex, to which Fabric fuses foam padding and a microfiber cover, creating an extremely light saddle that feels like one streamlined piece.

ISM Adamo Road Saddle ISM Adamo Road Saddle
In 1999, the UCI delivered new bicycle restrictions that reduced the allowable amount of saddle setback. In the process, it forced racers into a nether world of sitting on the tips of their saddles. The change was under the guise of keeping the bikes and riders safe, but the reality is that a soft tissue injury is very likely because standard racing saddles aren't designed to provide proper support when you are in a fast, aero, and legal position. The ISM Adamo Road Saddle is made expressly for the purpose of supporting your weight without compromising blood flow when your primary concern is reducing your frontal area. It's no secret that a forward position on your time trial bike will reduce your frontal area. Essentially, the further you rotate forward over the bottom bracket, the less area that you'll present to the wind as your head and chest become smaller factors in your personal drag equation. However, an aggressive aerodynamic position necessarily compromises comfort in favor of speed. So, the Adamo Saddle provides more comfort and support when you're in a fast forward position. This way, when every second counts, your comfort will become one less thing to disrupt the rhythm of your race. ISM designed the Adamo Road to be just over the UCI saddle minimum length of 240mm. With it perched atop your saddle rails in a legal 5cm behind-the-bottom-bracket position, the wings of the Adamo saddle (that provide support for your sit bones) will be 7-9cm farther forward than your current racing saddle. The forward width is just one of the visible ways that the Adamo saddle is different. The nose of the saddle is actually split into two forward projections, like a fork. The cutout between the forked tips takes away the pressure on your perineal artery. Tests on the ISM saddles have shown them to have little effect on normal blood flow to the genital area (less than 5% loss). Of the other saddles tested, some were shown to affect the blood flow up to 95%. For those ...

ISM PN 1.1 Saddle ISM PN 1.1 Saddle
The restrictions set by governing bodies on saddle placement has led to a cohort of time trialists and triathletes spending countless miles perched precariously and uncomfortably on the narrow tip of traditional road saddles, trying to eek the most power out of a flat time trial course. This position is fast, but may be putting unhealthy pressure on sensitive nerves and tissues. ISM addresses this issue with the ISM PN 1. 1 Saddle and its signature split fork, stocky-nosed design. The PN 1. 1 may look a bit alien next to a regular saddle, but it's built for comfort and function in a time trial position. Based on ISM's line-topping Attack saddle, the PN 1. 1 features a blunted nose and cutout split to provide a more supportive platform than traditional pointy-nosed saddles, even when you're scooted up on the rivet to squeeze out those few extra watts. This saddle provides a bit more padding than the Attack to counter the minimal chamois found in most triathlon-specifc shorts, and the unique split design reduces pressure on soft tissue and nerves to increase overall comfort and reduce numbness. The ISM PN 1. 1 features an extra narrow, 110mm rear width to provide riders of all types with a variety of positioning options out on the road. This profile allows you to scoot back on the saddle to tackle a climb, perch on the nose to power through a flat section, and change positions as needed without any worries related to thigh and hamstring clearance. The result is less chafing, less numbness, and more fun on every ride.

ISM PR 2.0 Saddle ISM PR 2.0 Saddle
When you're riding a century through beautiful vineyards and scenic valleys, the last thing you want to worry about is an uncomfortable saddle. The ISM PR 2. 0 Saddle lets you focus on the scenery with a split cutout design that reduces pressure on sensitive nerves and tissues while fighting off uncomfortable numbness. At first glance, this saddle looks a bit odd with its blunt nose and split legs at the front, but rest assured that it's designed with your comfort in mind. ISM categorizes the PR 2. 0 as a Performance Recreation saddle, meaning it'll be right at home in a local race or chauffeuring you to the next stop on that wine country century. It features a bit more padding than ISM's race models to give day-long comfort in the saddle for whatever ride the day brings. For those of you looking to test the waters in a local triathlon, the ISM PR 2. 0 Saddle has some added features to lower the bar of entry. The extra padding will counter the thinner chamois found in most triathlon-specific shorts to keep you comfy during the bike leg, and a rear transition hook makes it easier to get your bike situated on the transition area rack whether you're setting it up before a race or coming in to T2.

Juliana Primiero Saddle Juliana Primiero Saddle
Lady posteriors are different than dude posteriors, so a saddle that's made for guys won't work as well for gals. Obvious' Maybe, but the Juliana Primiero Women's Saddle is somehow still one of the women's-specific MTB saddles on the market. Made with a wider shape than men's saddles, the Primiero is designed to support women's sit bones, but it's not so wide that it will interfere with your pedaling and movement in the saddle. The flex-tuned composite shell flexes to save your sensitive bits from getting banged up, but is stiff enough to support aggressive pedaling, and low-profile padding offers gentle cushioning where you need it. An anatomical center channel helps reduce pressure, chromoly rails keep it locked on to your seat post, and the Kevlar-reinforced cover is smooth, sleek, and seriously durable.

PRO Griffon Hollow Saddle PRO Griffon Hollow Saddle
Given its avian-themed saddle naming convention, we're assuming that PRO named its Griffon Hollow Saddle after the griffon vulture, a large Eurasian bird of prey. We don't typically think glamour when we think vulture, and the Griffon saddle bears that out: it's not for style; it's for use. That's not to say the saddle doesn't look good--its black aesthetics and PRO/Shimano blue embellishment are a contemporary take on classic styling--rather, we mean that it's at its best when it's body is obscured by yours. The Griffon's flat profile and relatively narrow back half means that the entire saddle is up for grabs as a perch for your engine, letting you slide back when the grade ramps up or scoot up to get on top of the pedal stroke during long stretches of bar-draped diesel production while pulling the group across a valley floor. It also features a subtle recess that tapers gradually towards the nose, which adds a bit of pressure relief to sensitive tissues without drifting off into full cut-out territory. The saddle's carbon-reinforced body is built to absorb road noise without bouncing you around, and the hollow Ti 316 rails fill three objectives: supporting the body, keeping weight relatively low, and easing your mind while tightening bolts without a torque wrench. They may not have the top-end bling of carbon rails, but the rails are at least finished in black so they won't compromise a stealth build with a bright spot of alloy gleam.

PRO Turnix Hollow Saddle PRO Turnix Hollow Saddle
A saddle's main role is to keep our engine comfortably supported, and PRO's Turnix Hollow Saddle does this with a deep bucket that lets us settle in for the long miles that define endurance cycling. Regardless of whether your personal take on "endurance cycling" means charity centuries, cobblestone epics, or combination of both, the Turnix's shape is more than capable of enduring--after all, it was tested on Roubaix's 157. 5 mile course in 2015, where it carried Degenkolb across the stones to Germany's second win in the race. This particular species of the Turnix genus is defined by two characteristics: it's lack of a central channel and its hollow, titanium rails. For us, this means it's built for support and durability, promising to maintain a steady pedaling platform that gives a bit of engineered flex to absorb bumps and chatter without turning into a trampoline when you pedal in anger. The saddle's pronounced rear bucket rotates your hips forward slightly to keep you on top of the pedal stroke, increasing efficiency by "coaching" your posture.

Profile Design Vertex Saddle - Chromoly Rail Profile Design Vertex Saddle - Chromoly Rail
When you're racing a time trial or a triathlon, you know body position is crucial to not fatiguing too early. Body position can be heavily impacted by your saddle, which is why Profile Design engineered its Vertex Saddle line specifically for riding these disciplines. The Chromoly Rail version includes lightweight, responsive chromoly steel rails, and was designed with a seat tube angle of 75 to 80 degrees in mind. Foam is injected to pair with a composite shell to create a shape that's most anatomically efficient for riders who are stretched out over their aerobars for long periods of time, and the Vertex is built with a strategic cutout in the middle to relieve pressure and provide ventilation while you race. Over the top of the shell, an anti-slip microfiber cover keeps things feeling soft, while Profile Design kept the durometer high enough to make sure you get the support and longevity you need out of this event-specific saddle. The Vertex will add about 310g to your frame, and its clamp diameter measures 7mm.

Profile Design Vertex Saddle - Ti Rail Profile Design Vertex Saddle - Ti Rail
Make sure you aren't losing valuable seconds in a triathlon or time trial with a saddle that isn't designed for being used with your aerobar position. Profile Design's Vertex Saddle with Titanium Rails is part of a line created specifically for racing on a bike with TT or triathlon geometry. This saddle uses rails made with titanium to absorb road shock for a more comfortable ride, and it adds less weight to your frame while remaining just as strong compared to the Vertex Chromoly saddles in this line. Profile Design uses injected foam paired with a composite shell to create a shape that's most beneficial for riders stretched out over aerobars, and this model of the Vertex includes a cutout in the middle of the saddle to aid in pressure relief and ventilation. An anti-slip microfiber cover is stretched over the shell to keep the saddle feeling smooth, not abrasive, against your skin, and the saddle's firmness ensures it will keep its shape and provide consistent support over its lifetime. Weighing in at around 285g, the Vertex Titanium includes a 7mm clamp zone.

Otherwise, the injected foam in the composite shell follows the same shape designed to maximize efficiency for riders in a more forward position as the other Vertex saddles. This saddle was also designed with the same seat tube angles, 75 and 80 degrees, in mind as its siblings, and is made with a microfiber cover for added softness close to the skin. Selle Italia Butcher Saddle Selle Italia Butcher Saddle
Classic Italian saddle brand Selle Italia is best known for their low-profile, weight-saving road saddles. But the company has shown it doesn't only care about the cyclists in spandex with its mountain saddle offerings, and never more so than with the recent redesign of the Butcher saddle. Not content with simply adding a new graphic to last year's design, Selle Italia's engineers thought long and hard about what would make this saddle truly functional. They named it after California's Butcher Ranch Trail, site of thrilling downhill descents during the annual Downieville Classic. Arguably the most notable feature of the Butcher is the large hole in the center of it. Cutouts are common in saddles to relieve pressure, but the Butcher's void was added for a different kind of practicality: transporting your bike. Use it as a handle to push your bike, hang it from a lift, or stay balanced during trick riding. The wide nose of the saddle allows you to keep control of the bike, and the sleek rounded edges don't catch on baggies when you're sessioning in your PJs. In the construction of the saddle itself, Selle Italia includes aluminum alloy rails and its Duro-Tek covering, which has a herringbone panel to provide extra grip for more control when you're on the nose. Though you won't be spending much time in the saddle, when you do, Selle Italia's designers wanted to make sure you're landings are comfortable, so they included extra padding in the front of the saddle. The fallout from unhappy landings can be assuaged with the bottle opener on the underside of the saddle.

It's easy to spot the ladies using the Diva Gel Flow, too--just search the peloton for riders who aren't in agony. The Diva Gel Flow starts with a nylon composite base. Selle Italia Flite Flow Saddle Selle Italia Flite Flow Saddle
The original Selle Italia Flite saddle goes back nearly 25 years, and it's been so popular very little has changed. Enter the Flite Flow Saddle, with its pressure-relieving cutout, and you have a recipe for a saddle that'll be a favorite in another 25 years. The base of the Flite Flow is a 10% carbon, 90% nylon composite. This higher percentage of nylon, as compared to other Selle models, means a supportive ride that gives a bit to enable natural flex. This helps to keep vibration and road chatter at bay, which means longer, more comfortable rides. The width is 145mm, which is within a millimeter of the original Flite. Selle Italia added a cutout to the saddle that helps to minimize pressure in the perineal artery and soft tissue. With pressure directed away from these zones, you'll put your weight on the more supportive sit bones. This reduces numbness by keeping the blood flowing. The saddle is built upon titanium rails, which also help with road chatter. Finally, the cover is durable Lorica that is low friction and won't snag on your shorts.

Selle Italia Flite Friction Free Flow Saddle Selle Italia Flite Friction Free Flow Saddle
Considered a classic by Selle Italia itself, the Flite saddle line displays the brand's expertise at employing sleek, minimal aesthetics without neglecting subtle details that make your ride more comfortable. The Flite Friction Free Flow Saddle distinguishes itself from the rest of the line with its aggressively contoured nose and Flow pressure-relief cutout along the middle, both of which promote comfort but also contribute to the saddle's impressively low weight. The combination of these qualities makes the Flite Friction Free Flow ideal for road racing, training, and even weight-conscious cross-country racing. The Flite Friction Free Flow sits atop titanium rails, which strike a balance between being weight and durability without the cost or torque wrench requirements of carbon. Atop the rails and cover, Selle Italia adds extra padding to this model, but in this case, "extra" is in comparison to Selle Italia's completely firm race saddles. That means the Flite Friction Free Flow a lightly padded model that doesn't veer anywhere near gel-padded cruiser saddle trampolines. The saddle is wrapped in a Fibra-Tex cover that provides a smooth, durable surface to protect the saddle from the elements and ensure it wears well over the miles. The contoured shape of the nose frees space to better accommodate pedaling legs, lessening the likelihood of chafing or irritation against your inner thighs on longer rides. Further addressing comfort, the cutout channel along the center of the saddle serves to both relieve pressure as well as promote healthy circulation whether you spend the majority of your ride in the drops or constantly move around.

Selle Italia Flite TM Saddle Selle Italia Flite TM Saddle
Since we first became intimately acquainted with it in the early '90s, Selle Italia's Flite has earned a special place in our hearts across countless training and racing miles because its middle-of-the-road approach means it suits almost every rider in almost every cycling application this side of triathlon. The Flite TM Saddle is a more economical approach to the model that may not appeal to the most gram-conscious among us but does promise several seasons of comfortable cycling with its reliable, versatile construction. Compared to the standard Flite, which is made with titanium alloy rails, the Flite TM saves money and gains a claimed 20g of weight by featuring manganese rails. The TM also eliminates the carbon component in the base Flite's body, which is no doubt responsible for adding a few more grams by requiring additional fiberglass reinforcement to keep the nylon shell from becoming a trampoline when cadence tops 85rpm. The Flite TM has the same slight increase in padding as the standard Flite, which makes slightly more forgiving than the SLR but doesn't quite tip over into throw-pillow bulk. That combination of a moderate width and that light padding may be responsible for the Flite's enduring popularity. It's wrapped in Duro-Tek, an equally enduring synthetic that exhibits an uncanny ability to provide stability but doesn't abrade Lycra.

Selle Italia has been around long enough to understand this, and its recent introduction of the Iron Flow L Saddle demonstrates this knowledge by applying the venerable brand's signature craftsmanship and attention to detail to a tri-specific line. Selle Italia starts with Titanium 316 rails, which are second only to the Italian company's carbon rails in strength and lightness. This makes the Iron Flow L more wallet-friendly than the Iron Tekno Flow line without adding an anchor to the top of your seatpost. A Fibra-Tek cover is stretched over the body, and a cutout in the saddle's nose improves circulation and relieves pressure. Not content with just offering a standard cutout, Selle Italia engineered rubber in a honeycomb pattern to fill the gap in order to manage airflow, helping to prevent chafing and drying your chamois well before T2. The saddle's general shape also addresses chafing, with the nose's vertical walls and a dramatically tapered shape providing more thigh clearance while pedaling. The claimed weight of the Iron Flow is a low 265g, and Selle Italia's engineers were careful when adding extra padding to keep it that way. Despite its low weight, the saddle's rear platform is a generous 145mm wide and angled to tilt the hips forward for lower back support, additional pedaling leverage, and an easier ride while you're racing on aerobars. The saddle tapers into aerodynamically-shaped CarboKeramic, Selle Italia's patented blend of carbon and ceramic-infused resin that keeps the saddle's overall weight low at 270g. If you've used Selle Italia's idmatch fit guide and need a saddle that accommodates wider sit bones, this is the Iron Flow model for you.

Selle Italia Iron Tekno Flow S Saddle Selle Italia Iron Tekno Flow S Saddle
Selle Italia has been making saddles by hand for over a century, but don't take that to mean the brand is getting stodgy. Part of a tri-specific line of saddles introduced for the first time last year, Selle's carbon Iron Tekno Flow S Saddle offers triathletes an innovative design and a departure from some of the more traditional tri saddles on the market with distinctive, functional features. Selle designed the Iron Tekno Flow with a Fibra-Tek cover stretched over adjustable CarboKeramic rails. The split nose measures a slender 36mm and is shaped to help provide more space between the edge of the saddle and inner thigh while pedaling -- eliminating dreaded chafing made worse by wet tri shorts. Also serving to help eliminate discomfort caused by wet shorts is the honeycomb-shaped rubber between the split rails, added to facilitate better airflow and get your shorts dried off before you get to T2. When buying a tri-specific saddle, you need to know that it's been constructed to keep you comfortable in the aerobars, since that's where you'll be spending the majority of your time. Selle addressed this need in the Iron Tekno Flow by adding extra padding and an upturned shape at the widest part of the saddle, which measures 135mm to increase support while orienting the saddle, and rider, further forward. The saddle's shape tapers again into aerodynamically shaped carbon after this point, and the padding is strategically placed only where you need it most to keep the overall weight lower than most tri saddles at about 205g.

Selle Italia Max Flite Gel Flow Saddle Selle Italia Max Flite Gel Flow Saddle
Selle Italia's venerable Flite Saddle has long been a favorite of road racers, mountain bike riders, and just about everyone else in between, but it doesn't fit those cursed with wider-than-average sit bones. Enter the Max Flite Gel Flow. The Max Flite takes the classic Flite shape, and hits the 'enhance' button a couple times, resulting in a quite long, mid-width saddle that's every bit as comfortable as its more streamlined brethren. Final measurements are 146x290mm, which put it about 10mm wider than your average, narrow-width saddle. The extra width, combined with firm gel under the cover, and the Flow pressure relief channel, make the Max Flite ideal for long rides over less-than-ideal tarmac, or even gravel.

Selle Italia Nepal S Saddle Selle Italia Nepal S Saddle
Selle Italia's Nepal S Saddle incorporates all the features that make the Nepal L model a rough-riding, all-mountain companion into a more narrow shell for aggro trail riders with narrower sit bones. The manganese rails are heavier than the model with the titanium option, but, when perched atop a 6in enduro monster, the extra grams are hardly noticeable. Despite the difference in rail material, the Nepal S is finished with the same panels of grippy material that are general across the line. This added grabbiness enhances the ass-to-saddle relationship, helping to translate body English into bike English while muscling through corners and questionable lines.

Selle Italia Nepal S Ti Saddle Selle Italia Nepal S Ti Saddle
For a brand that's been making saddles for the better part of a century, an all-new saddle is a big deal. We're consistently impressed with Selle Italia's approach to innovation, as the firm meticulously returns to the drawing board to craft what it believes is missing from its current offerings instead of relying solely on the success of past designs. The Nepal S Ti Saddle represents a perfect example of this: Selle Italia saw a need for a saddle in its line designed specifically for trail riding, so it shortened and widened its basic road saddle profile and added strategically-placed padding to create a functional choice for riders at either ends of the trail and XC disciplines. Aside from a profile optimized for singletrack rather than tarmac, Selle Italia adds textured, grippy panels to the Nepal positioned directly under sit bones to further adapt it to the trails. The panels effectively provide extra traction so you're less likely to slide around on the saddle on root-latticed climbs and bumpy traverses. Further addressing comfort on climbs, the Nepal's padded nose makes staying forward to get on top of the pedals less fatiguing on long climbs. Once you pop over the crux and catch your breath, you'll be able to stand up and lean back on a descent without your baggies catching on the back of the saddle courtesy of its rounded back. The Nepal's shell sits atop light, durable titanium rails, while Selle Italia's beloved Fibra-Tek cover loyally stands between the saddle's padding and the elements. Selle Italia also reinforces the sides of the Nepal, taking the added chance of scuffs and scrapes off-road into consideration and using durable, abrasion-resistant material to equip the Nepal to handle spills with signature Selle Italia grace.

Selle Italia Novus Flow L Saddle Selle Italia Novus Flow L Saddle
Durability, comfort, style -- few saddle manufacturers embody these qualities like Selle Italia, and fewer still have done so for over a century. The Novus Flow L Saddle falls right in step with that tradition, delivering exceptional comfort to shepherd you through any ride or race adventure in timeless style. The Flow L gets its name from the noticeable cutout down the center of the saddle that lets cooling air flow through and helps relieve pressure on your perineal artery and surrounding sensitive tissues. This cutout also increases comfort by shifting the contact points to your sit bones, which are much better equipped to handle the weight without pain or constriction. Say goodbye to numb nethers and hello to many miles of comfortable pedaling. Selle Italia adds just a bit more padding to the Novus Flow L Saddle than it does for the top-of-the-line SLR saddles, allowing the Novus Flow to maintain comfort across a wide range of cycling endeavors. Whether you're tackling trails, climbing a pristine mountain pass on tarmac, or wrestling the mud on a cyclocross bike, this saddle can handle it all and keep you comfy throughout. The Selle Italia Novus Flow L Saddle is available in a long, generously wide profile to provide a range of positioning options to riders of all levels and disciplines. Riders with narrower sit bones may prefer the Novus Flow S with its narrower, 137mm stance.

Selle Italia has long held a stellar reputation for race-ready, durable, and comfortable saddles featuring classic Italian style. The Flow S gets its name from the cutout running down the middle of the saddle, which lets in cooling air flow and reduces pressure on the perineal artery and surrounding sensitive tissue. This cutout shifts the weighted contact points to your sit bones, which are far more able to support weight comfortably with less numbness and pain. Compared to its road racing-specific siblings, the Novus Flow S features just a smidgeon of extra padding to cushion the ride across multiple disciplines. Its extraordinary versatility allows it to shuttle between technical trails, pristine pavement, and the mud and remounts required to tackle cyclocross -- all while keeping things cool and comfy throughout the ride. Selle Italia Novus L Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle Selle Italia Novus L Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle
The Novus L Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle may sit at the pointy end of Selle Italia's saddle lineup, price-wise, but its 146mm width means that its actual sit platform is plenty wide to accommodate cyclists with correspondingly wide sit bones. The gradual taper to the elongated nose and its low weight mean this broader version of the already-broad Novus platform is for the cyclist whose broad ambitions span punchy attacks and long, static grinds during solo moves in the no man's land between a chasing pack and the distant summit. The saddle's rails are made from the same CarboKeramic composite featured throughout Selle Italia's line. Combined with the slight engineered flex of the body shell's carbon/nylon matrix, the CarboKeramic rails smooth out rough roads without creating a trampoline effect that leaves you bouncing too much to spin a proper cadence. The saddle also features the signature Selle Italia cut-out down the center, though it's not as pronounced as other models, so the channel edges are more like flat plateaus than sharp ridges. The channel is flanked with just enough padding to maintain comfort while still saving a claimed 30g over the Novus Flow L Team Edition.

Selle Italia Novus L Team Edition Flow Saddle Selle Italia Novus L Team Edition Flow Saddle
Selle Italia recently took a trip to the nineties, bringing back its Novus line and reworking it to exceed 21st century cycling standards. The Novus L team Edition Flow Saddle Shows why the brand is still successful after over a century. It's built on a frame of strong, light titanium rails and a composite body that combine to provide a firm ride without sacrificing comfort. The saddle's shape, extra wide at the back with a gradual taper into the nose, maintains comfort for wide-hipped riders while perched on the saddle's nose to maximize efficiency while pedaling. Selle Italia's signature cutout encourages circulation and airflow throughout your ride, and a Fibra-Tek cover stretched over the entire saddle provides unfussy protection from the elements. This is the wider version of the Novus Flow, so if you've used Selle Italia's idmatch fit guide and have found you need saddles from the L2 group, the Novus L is among the recommended options. Selle Italia leaves out additional padding in the Novus L Flow, so expect it to feel firm and responsive rather than soft and bouncy. Less padding also comes with the added benefit of keeping the saddle's weight low at a claimed 230g. Firm doesn't have to mean uncomfortable, though, and the saddle has a touch of engineered flex to ensure you won't have to worry about cutting your long rides short because of discomfort.

Selle Italia Novus S Team Edition Flow Saddle Selle Italia Novus S Team Edition Flow Saddle
Selle Italia designers recently turned to the brand's successful past when deciding what its future should look like, and they liked the 1990's Novus line so much that they decided to bring it back. Though the brand is over a century old, Selle Italia isn't afraid of innovation, so they used the original Novus line as inspiration for a new, redesigned line including the Novus S Team Edition Flow Saddle. The Team Edition features the updated saddle chassis with a bit of graphical flair. Constructed to facilitate generating power on the saddle's nose, the Novus S Flow is made with lightweight 316 Titanium rails and a durable Fibra-Tek cover, with a cutout in the middle for pressure relief and increased airflow. All of the models in the Novus line share a similar shape, but the fluted shaped of the nose on the Novus S is slightly more exaggerated to accommodate riders with narrower sit bones. According to Selle Italia's idmatch fit guide, if you fall into the S2 category, this is the saddle you're looking for. The Novus S Flow balances padding with support for comfort that's both firm and responsive. It was also made with an eye toward keeping the weight down, with extra padding left out to weigh in at a claimed 225g. Selle Italia didn't want the saddle's low weight to be at the expense of long-term comfort, though, and the Novus S Flow manages not to cross the thin line between firm and uncomfortably hard by flexing enough to offer forgiveness on rough roads.

Selle Italia SLR Flow Selle Italia SLR Flow
Featuring the same 131mm seat width and 275mm length as Selle's SLR Tekno, the Selle Italia SLR Flow caters to riders with average-width sit bones, while providing ample length for adjusting your position to the terrain at hand. However, the big difference between the two saddles lies within the Italia SLR Flow's SuperFlow cutout, which relieves prolonged pressure exerted on the pelvis, instead directing weight to your sit bones for a far more comfortable fit. Moreover, you'll find this high-quality saddle eliminates the numbness that results from exerting pressure on the pudendal nerve, keeping blood flow consistent for extra comfort on long hauls and extended tours. The SLR Flow uses slightly more padding than the rest of the SLR lineup, with soft leather padding covering a shell made of nylon-carbon composite and Vanox rails. Though they're a tad heavier than their carbon counterparts, the Vanox rails remain strong enough for use on gravel grinders, cyclocross, and mountain bikes.

Selle Italia SLR Friction Free Flow Saddle Selle Italia SLR Friction Free Flow Saddle
By introducing the SLR Friction Free Flow Saddle as part of its race-ready SLR line, Selle Italia aims to address the 40% of riders who it claims aren't getting enough thigh clearance from a traditional saddle. The company engineered the SLR Friction Free with a much narrower nose than most saddles to lessen chafing, pilling on shorts, and improve efficiency for a select group of riders. If you're the cyclist who can't get through a full season without finding the inner thighs of your bib shorts or sides of your saddle wearing prematurely, then the Friction Free Flow might be the option for you. Though its claimed weight of 185g means it's slightly heavier than some of the minimalist, carbon-railed SLR models, the Friction Free Flow is still a racing saddle at heart. It's built on lightweight titanium rails with a smooth Fibra-Tek cover that isn't afraid of the elements, so it'll last through long training miles, too. The Flow in the name of this saddle refers to Selle Italia's signature pressure-relieving cutout, which improves circulation to prevent the accumulation of damaging scar tissue in the perineum. Measuring a slim 131mm wide, this saddle won't be for everyone, but for those with narrow hips, it offers a solution much more economical than buying bib shorts in bulk.

Selle Italia SLR Friction Free Saddle Selle Italia SLR Friction Free Saddle
If you're the cyclist who notices you consistently can't get through a full season without the inner thighs of your bib shorts or sides of your saddle wearing prematurely, then you may be part of the 40% of riders that Selle Italia claims aren't getting enough thigh clearance from a traditional saddle. The company created its popular SLR racing saddle in a Friction Free version, which was designed with a much narrower width from the wings to the tip of the nose than traditional saddles. This shape aims to lessen chafing, cut down on pilling shorts, and improve efficiency for a select group of riders. The SLR Friction Free is built on lightweight titanium rails and is covered with Selle Italia's easy-to-clean Fibra-Tek, which resists wear from the elements over long training miles. Weighing in at a claimed 185g, the saddle's sleek design fits right in among Selle's minimalist SLR racing saddles, even if it is slightly heavier than some of its carbon-railed siblings. Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle
Selle Italia's SLR shape has become one of the popular saddle shapes in all of cycling. Its versatility supports riders of all shapes and sizes. With the anatomically-driven SLR Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle, Selle Italia takes this classic one step further. This saddle features the same 131mm width and 275mm length as the SLR Tekno. This makes it an ideal match for those with average width sit bones. However, where the Kit Carbonio Flow begins to differ is both obvious and not-so-obvious. Starting with the 'Flow' designation, you'll notice that this saddle has a moderately sized cutout in order to relieve pressure on the perineal artery and adjacent soft tissue. As a result, that pressure is directed to your sit bones (ischial tuberosity), which are far more adept at supporting your body weight. Additionally, they're able to do so without causing numbness during long rides. This principle is further supported by the wide cut out, as it removes pressure from the pudendal nerve which can cause pain and numbness when continuous pressure is applied. The Kit Carbonio also differs from the rest of the SLR line in its padding. It's a little less dense than the Team Edition, but thicker than the Tekno. However, it's nowhere near as dense as anything in the Flite or SLS families. And along with a modest amount of padding, the saddle has been wrapped with a hard-wearing and non-abrasive Lorica cover. The SLR Kit Carbonio is supported by Selle Italia's carbon fiber rails. This feature assists in maintaining a low overall weight, but it also reduces and dissipates road vibration and trail chatter. And speaking of weight, at around 120 grams, this saddle approaches the 100% carbon fiber SLR Tekno. This is quite an undertaking considering the Carbonio features a 70/30% nylon/carbon fiber shell construction. The Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle is available in a 131x275mm size and in the colors White and Black.

Selle Italia SLR Lady Flow Selle Italia SLR Lady Flow
Shrinking and pinking used to be a viable way to make women's cycling gear, but times have changed, and products like the Selle Italia SLR Lady Flow Women's Saddle is proof that the cycling world is taking ladies, and their gear, seriously. That said, the Lady Flow takes some cues from the classic SLR Flow, such as its 275mm length, Lorica artificial leather cover, and the surgical grade Ti 316 rails. It shares the carbon-injected nylon shell, too, which provides a killer blend of stiffness, support, and comfort, so you can ride hard without suffering excessively. The rest of the Lady Flow, though, has been redesigned. The rear wings are 135mm in width, four millimeters wider than the men's saddle, to comfortably fit female sit bones, and the nose is also slightly wider and designed to take your weight off sensitive pressure points. There's also slightly thicker padding in key areas to reduce vibration and increase comfort, but the Lady Flow is still a decidedly minimalist offering. Minimal doesn't mean wimpy, though--the Lady Flow is tough enough that Selle Italia rates it for road, cyclocross, and mountain bike use, so you can pick up three and stick them on all of your rides.

Selle Italia SLR Max Gel Flow Saddle Selle Italia SLR Max Gel Flow Saddle
The Flow part of the Selle Italia SLR Max Gel Flow Saddle is its most distinctive feature and will probably be its key selling point. If you want a saddle whose anatomic cutout alleviates pressure where you don't want it, then here you go. No one in the game does it as well or as dramatically as Selle Italia. A bit of grippy material runs down the middle portions that remain in order to keep you from sliding about during long, in-the-saddle grinds. Gel padding keeps the contact with your sit bones soft but not bouncy. The shell's 10% carbon construction is stiff enough to support well, but elastomer inserts between the rails mean this won't translate to undo road noise coming up through your seatpost. There are few things more important in fitting a new bike than choosing the right saddle. It's often a laborious affair with all the complexity and false leads of a noir thriller, and there's no guarantee that it'll end happily. Selle Italia doesn't claim to have a single silver bullet for saddle fit, but it does manufacture options for riders across the spectrum of fit and preference to ensure that every ride has a happy beginning. With its generously oversized cut-out, wide rear basin, and claimed weight of under 200g, the SLR Superflow L Saddle meets the criteria of serious recreationalists and racers with wider hip bones and a preference for Selle Italia's perineum-saving relief channel design. The saddle is built on a frame of titanium rails and a nylon/carbon composite body that conspire for just enough engineered flex to maintain comfort without a trampoline feel. Selle Italia SLR Team Edition Saddle Selle Italia SLR Team Edition Saddle
Selle Italia is rarely content with making a saddle and keeping the same design for the next several seasons. This quest to continuously improve its designs led the brand to make a few changes to this year's SLR Team Edition Saddle, presumably to make it a more user-friendly experience for those of us who dream of being pros but haven't made it to the team just yet. One of the major changes from the previous SLR Team Edition is the switch to durable titanium 316 tube rails from the carbon rails used on last year's model, which means you don't necessarily have to use a torque wrench when making fit adjustments -- though we'd still recommend it. Paired with the additional padding Selle Italia included this year, the claimed weight of the saddle increases overall from 140g to 175g. Selle Italia must have felt that weight gain was justified; last year's SLR Team Edition was considered plush by SLR standards, but this year's model offers even more cushioning. Despite the switch to titanium rails, Selle Italia kept the saddle's nylon composite base with a 30% blend of carbon fiber. This composite mash-up provides a balance of support with engineered flex that absorbs road vibrations. The Team Edition includes the same Fibra-Tek cover as last year, which is an easy-to-clean fabric that wears well over long training miles, rain or shine.

Selle Italia SLR Tekno Flow Saddle Selle Italia SLR Tekno Flow Saddle
The Selle Italia SLR Tekno Flow Saddle is an exercise in minimalism, and surprisingly, that's a good thing. You're looking at a saddle that only weighs around 115 grams, but despite its light weight, the Tekno Flow takes advantage of an anatomic cutout and a low-profile Lorica cover in order to deliver far more comfort than you'd expect out of this decidedly firm racing saddle. Basically, if you have your eyes on the checkered flag, this saddle will get you there without compromise. The SLR Tekno Flow starts off with a 100% carbon fiber base, which is stiff, supportive, and lightweight. True to the SLR designation, this saddle has a 131mm tail width and 275mm length, so it accommodates those with medium width sit bones comfortably. There's a large cutout, which relieves pressure on the perineal artery and adjacent soft tissue. As a result, that pressure is directed to your sit bones (ischial tuberosity), which are far more adept at supporting your body weight. Additionally, they're able to do so without causing numbness during long rides. This principle is further supported by the wide cut out, as it removes pressure from the pudendal nerve. The pudendal nerve is a paired structure, with a left and right nerve. It is formed in the sacral plexus, and in simplified terms, moves down the body between the piriformis muscle and the ischiococcygeus muscles, eventually attaching to the ischial spine. From here it eventually enters the pudendal canal within which it divides off into several branches including the perineal nerve and the inferior rectal nerve. Keeping pressure off of these nerves is imperative to reducing numbness while riding. So, by relieving the very threat of pressure, numbness is eliminated. A possible misconception about this saddle is that only the perimeter of the saddle has been constructed of carbon fiber. However, it actually shares the standard Tekno's 100% carbon construction, only the Flow features a touch of padding and a low-friction, har...

Selle Italia SLR Tekno Saddle Selle Italia SLR Tekno Saddle
Carbon fiber saddles have been around for a while, but they typically belong on weight-weenie wall-art builds, rather than a bike that sees dozens of rides a year. Why' Because they have a track record of favoring light weights over comfort. Selle Italia took this as a challenge, and delivered the SLR Tekno Saddle as a result. Building on the same shape that's popularized the SLR, the Tekno incorporates a flexible carbon fiber shell that yields a surprising degree of comfort. Even better, Selle Italia managed this at a weight that's sub-100 grams. The SLR Tekno takes the classic SLR shape, but does away with padding in favor of a lightweight carbon fiber shell. And despite its intimidating appearance, you'll find that it's far from being a rock-hard torture device. Instead, the SLR Tekno is actually quite comfortable, especially when paired with your favorite chamois. Granted, it's not the right choice for loaded touring or casual cyclists. But, for those of us whose backsides have been hardened by thousands of miles of pedaling, the feel is not dissimilar from the original SLR, if slightly more Spartan. The carbon fiber shell has the added benefit of enabling your shorts to slide by with nary a snag, which minimizes chafing -- arguably the largest source of saddle-area discomfort. And while the original SLR is admittedly lightweight, the Tekno version drops the weight to a around 95 grams. Yes, that is indeed crazy-light, especially for a saddle that's intended to be ridden day-in and day-out. The carbon fiber shell isn't the only factor in the Tekno's incredible weight. The solid carbon fiber rails are not only svelte, but strong. Better yet, they provide a degree of vibration damping, which reduces the harsh road chatter that leads to both numbness or discomfort. The Selle Italia SLR Tekno Saddle is available in a 131x275mm size and in the color Black.

We have to admit that Italy has a penchant for creating instant-classics -- case in point is the Selle Italia SLR Titanium Saddle' Sure, it's not quite as light as the full-carbon Tekno versions, nor does it have the anatomic cutouts of the Flow line. However, what you do get is the same supportive mid-width shape that's made the SLR widely loved, mixed with durable titanium rails. This is arguably the most timeless option in the SLR line, so we ask, why mess with perfection' The foundation of the SLR is its nylon composite shell, with its 'composite' designation is derived from its 30% carbon fiber content. Essentially, this mix provides the shell with a boost of support, while still providing a natural level of flex for comfort. And, true to its SLR designation, it shares the same 131mm width and 275mm length that's found throughout the SLR line of saddles. However, where it differs is in its level of padding. Selle Italia ranks this saddle as an 'S1' in its Identity Matching System, meaning that possesses a similar level of firmness to the full-carbon SLR Tekno and the SLR Monolink Team edition saddles. In terms of padding, you'll find that the SLR Titanium is relatively sparse, making it ideal for those with small-width sit bones with low pelvic rotation and that prefer a firmer saddle. And for anyone who also prefers a low profile design, the Titanium has the lowest height from rail to top-of-cover in the Selle Italia line (37mm). As the name implies, this version of the SLR sits on tubular titanium rails. And, in addition to being lightweight and providing a positive degree of vibration damping, they're strong enough for Selle Italia to rate them for off road use. Remarkably, this was achieved despite the saddle's weight coming in around a low 140 grams. The Selle Italia SLR Titanium Saddle is available in a 131x275mm size and in the colors Black, White, and Red.

Selle Italia SLR TM Flow Saddle Selle Italia SLR TM Flow Saddle
Spinning through five hours of base miles can be hard enough with a saddle adding additional discomfort by repeated pummeling you from below. The Selle Italia SLR TM Flow Saddle helps to ease the pressure of long-distance cycling by literally easing the pressure on sensitive tissues. It provides the same padding and pressure relieving channel as the lighter weight standard model, but it features slightly heavier materials throughout. This adds grams, sure, but it also keeps your wallet heavier. Selle Italia's signature Flow cutout is especially helpful on the SLR model, which was developed for racing and thereby benefits more from Flow's weight loss and increased positioning options. It's a claimed five grams lighter than the non-Flow SLR TM, and it also eliminates pressure on delicate areas when your hips are tilted aggressively forward. Less material equates to more comfort in the drops, more time spent in an aerodynamic posture, and a better chance of staying off the front to the finish line. It's also got a uniform flatness from aft to fore, so you can move through different positions depending on what the road throws at you. Trying to maintain a gap in the wind' Perch on the nose to tuck into some time-trial power without fear of smashing your soft tissue. Grinding out a long climb' Scoot back and engage your gluts and hammies. Whatever the terrain you happen to be racing on, the moderate SLR profile has you covered. The saddle's reinforced nylon body and added padding are themselves covered in Selle Italia's Duro-Tek synthetic, an abrasion-resistant material that provides a confident platform to let you cycle through those various positions without shredding your shorts. The shell is supported by manganese rails, which add a few grams compared to carbon or titanium but cut price drastically without sacrificing comfort or non-bouncing support.

Selle Italia SLR TM Saddle Selle Italia SLR TM Saddle
The SLR TM Saddle adapts Selle Italia's SLR line to the self-sponsored cyclist by using less expensive materials that add a few grams of extra weight. But that doesn't mean it's a heavyweight beast; the SLR TM weighs-in at a claimed 30g lighter than the Flite TM model, putting it in the same weight category as saddles that cost almost twice as much. Part of that weight loss owes to the SLR's narrower profile, which suits it for cyclists with sit bones that sit just on the narrow side of average. It's also got a uniform flatness from aft to fore, so you can move through different positions depending on what the road throws at you. Trying to maintain a gap in the wind' Perch on the nose to tuck into some time-trial power. Grinding out a long climb' Scoot back and engage your gluts and hammies. Selle Italia Turbo 1980 Saddle Selle Italia Turbo 1980 Saddle
Long before carbon and titanium, gel and cutouts, and saddles stripped of all but the most essential features in the name of saving a few grams, Selle Italia's Turbo 1980 Saddle was introduced to the cycling world and enjoyed resounding success. Now, the classic Italian brand has brought back its landmark design, introducing new riders to the saddle that carried Hinault himself to victory in five Tours. Radical in its time, the Turbo presented a rare padding profile and a new shape to cyclists. The extra cushioning is concentrated mostly in the rear, and its comfort over long distances is still relevant even in the age of gel. While the shape is no longer considered radical compared to slimmer, sleeker designs, it's far from obsolete -- the sides of the nose have smooth edges and enough depth to prevent chafing. The Turbo sits on aluminum alloy rails and has a soft leather cover embellished with Selle Italia's original vintage graphics. It's far from the lightest saddle on the market now, but at a claimed 295g, it's no brick. Though we often see beloved designs altered or retired in the name of progress, it's refreshing to see a nostalgia-inspiring classic that's as ready to ride now as it was in 1980.

Selle Italia Turbomatic Gel Flow Saddle Selle Italia Turbomatic Gel Flow Saddle
Selle Italia boasts one of the most distinguished reputations in the industry for its durable, comfortable, and race-proven saddles. The Turbomatic has been a staple in this line since it was unveiled in 1998, and the newer versions continue to improve on that heritage. The Selle Italia Turbomatic Gel Flow Saddle carries on as a favorite for riders of all levels with a leather cover and classic Italian style that tugs at traditionalist heart strings. It's not a historical throw-back model, though, and it includes modern shock-absorbing technology that delivers race-worthy comfort for any type of road adventure. The Turbomatic Gel Flow gets its surname from the large cutout down the center of the saddle. The cutout lets cooling air flow through and relieves pressure on your perineal artery and surrounding sensitive tissues. It also increases comfort by shifting the main weight-bearing contact points to your sit bones, which are much better equipped to handle weight. Say goodbye to numbness and hello to miles and miles of comfortable pedaling. Selle Italia adds an extra dash of padding to the Turbomatic Gel Flow compared to some of its other saddles, which provides support and cushioning throughout long rides on less-than pristine surfaces. As an added bonus, the lightweight Manganese rails double as little shock absorbers at the tail end of the saddle to absorb vibration and further increase durability. The Turbomatic lets you turn onto that rough chip seal road winding through scenic vineyards with confidence that it will shepherd you comfortably through the route.

Selle SMP Avant Saddle Selle SMP Avant Saddle
Though Selle SMP has been making saddles in Italy since just after WWII, the brand inexplicably christened the Avant Saddle with a French word. The choice is doubly confusing given that "avant" translates to "before" when the saddle's recommended use situates it closer to the "behind" side of things. Semantic nitpicking disappears once you're actually atop the Avant, though, as it presents a wide, generously padded (by Selle SMP's standards) face to your derriere. Maybe the saddle's confusing title is meant to stress that it puts comfort ahead of any other criteria. The Avant is built with wide sit bones in mind, and Selle SMP recommends it for men whose waists range from 34 to 39in and women in the 32 to 37in range. Strategic cutouts and a the iconic, drooping nose help ensure that the soft tissues between sit bones don't suffer. This is especially apparent when sitting forward on the saddle to drive a high pace on the flats. The embroidered branding on the full-leather (black) or blemish-free synthetic (colored) cover adds a touch of Italian elegance--though, to be fair, we've just come to expect this from Selle SMP.

Selle SMP Blaster Saddle Selle SMP Blaster Saddle
We're used to seeing pressure-relieving cutouts on road saddles, and Selle SMP understands that trail riders might want the comfort of its signature cutout channel too. The Selle SMP Blaster Saddle blends the company's renowned pressure-relieving design and a durable nylon/carbon composite shell for a resulting versatility to span both road and mountain applications. Like the all-rounder Stratos and Dynamic, the Blaster is best suited for cyclists with average-width pelvises, as it features a moderate profile and a fairly minimal amount of padding. At the nose, there's the characteristic "beak" shape designed to provide a flat base while sitting that minimizes pressure. Down the center, SMP's pronounced central channel further reduces pressure on the pudendal nerve and surrounding soft tissue. The back of the saddle is raised for an enhanced seated pedaling position, where body weight is divided between the rear and lower part of the ischial tuberosity region. This shape also helps reduce overall pressure on the coccyx while riding over rough surfaces.

Selle SMP Composit Selle SMP Composit
You--and everyone else--can recognize Selle SMP saddles at a glance, but can you explain why they look so distinctive' Selle didn't design the beaked nose, high back, and large central channel for no reason, after all, and while all the above are common features on Selle saddles, each has been tailored to fit specific riding styles, anatomies, and disciplines. The Composit Road Saddle, for example, employs the same shape and materials as the SMP4BIKE series, but it ditches the foam to better suit aggressive road riders with narrow to average pelvises. The lack of foam makes the Composit slightly less cushy, but that's not a racer's primary concern. More important are support and stiffness, which the Composit delivers via an elastomer nylon and carbon composite shell. The beaked nose provides more space for your twig 'n' berries, and the pronounced center channel relieves pressure on other soft tissue areas so you can sit comfortably without loading up on padding. The raised "whale tail" back gives you something to push against, and the durable steel rails handle years of hard riding without getting loose or losing strength.

Selle SMP Composit 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle Selle SMP Composit 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle
Selle SMP is turning 70 the way any dedicated cyclist would like to: by maintain a trim, lightweight, padding-free, race-focused body. Case in point: the Composit 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle, which maintains the same sleek profile as the standard Composit but with a few celebratory additions that range from the material to the aesthetic. Despite those changes, the saddle still features SMP's signature drooping nose, a design that may first inspire quizzical looks but, after riding it, often ends up inspiring zealous devotion. But the special edition additions: The material elements include handpainted plating underneath, which is secured with a special run of bolts produced by a high-end Italian machinist outfit. The aesthetic touches are accents to the tune of the Italian tricolor. Somewhere between the two, the on-tone stitching across the saddle's face is made from a soft, luxurious yarn. It's a pleasant embellishment that adds a touch of functional grip. Aesthetics and form also meet in the saddle's cover, which is either real leather (black) or synthetic microfiber (white). The Composit is similar to Selle SMP's wider Forma, but it's designed for smaller waists and body types--think more along the lines of Il Pirata than the Lion King. That means the Composit, as mentioned above, eschews padding altogether, making it the lightest of the Anniversary line and recommending it for cyclists who want to feel as much of the road as possible. The saddle's "beak" shape provides a flat base to support the ischium while alleviating pressure on the genitals, regardless of how slammed your stem is. The Composit also features SMP's pronounced central channel, which further reduces pressure on the pudendal nerve and surrounding soft tissue. The raised tail helps coach the hips into a forward rotation for more efficient pedaling, a position that also keeps body weight divided between the rear and lower part of the ischial tuberosity region. Selle SMP Drakon 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle Selle SMP Drakon 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle
If Selle SMP's lightweight, minimalist saddles are designed for the tiny climbers, the Drakon is its rouleur model. The wide-bodied Drakon Saddle is part of SMP's 70th Anniversary Edition collection, which adds a few celebratory embellishments to the already impressive SMP aesthetics. These include SMP's usual tricolor treatment--albeit a bit more stylized--a hand-painted base plate, and details embroidered with a special edition, softer yarn. New looks aside, the 70th Anniversary Drakon is functionally the same as the standard model. It's the widest of the Anniversary saddles, so it's ideally suited to wide hips--SMP summarizes the size recommendation as bib shorts sizes medium through X-large. It's also got a standard amount of padding, which is notable considering that many of SMP's saddles eschew padding altogether in pursuit of lightweight racing stats. As with its skinnier stablemates, the Drakon features a drop beak-shaped nose to relieve pressure on soft tissue regions. This design also means that when you ride, it's easier to roll forward and keep a flat back. The tail kicks up to encourage that hip rotation, and the length of the saddle is bifurcated by a generous cutout, which adds yet more pressure relief to the most important point of bike/cyclist contact.

Selle SMP Dynamic 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle Selle SMP Dynamic 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle
In 2017, Selle SMP turned 70, and to celebrate the occasion it's releasing several saddles in special editions. The Dynamic 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle is functionally equivalent to the standard Dynamic--it does, however, feature a splash of Italian flair in the form of tricolor details, special graphics, so-soft embroidery across its face, and a hand-painted baseplate secured with bolts machined at a boutique shop in Italy. Given that Selle SMP's saddles are already about as hand-crafted and Italian it gets, these special embellishments make the 70th anniversary Dynamic Italianissimo. [Oh dear, oh dear - Ed] Despite the updated graphics, the celebratory Dynamic is essentially the same saddle Dynamic fans know and love. It keeps padding to a minimum, so it doesn't feel like a throw pillow wrapped on your seatpost, bouncing you down the road during sustained efforts while seated. At the nose, the characteristic "beak" shape provides relief to cyclists across the spectrum of stem slamming, but the flat central section and raised tail keep ischial support on-point while coaching your hips into a more efficient angle of attack on the pedals. A pronounced central channel finishes the roster of comfort-focused features, ensuring that a lack of padding doesn't mean sensitive tissues take a beating. Though it's minimal, the saddle does still feature some foam elastomer padding, which is wrapped in either leather (black) or synthetic microfiber (white). Its durable nylon/carbon composite shell rides on stainless steel rails, ensuring a secure perch that's equal to virtually any cycling discipline.

Selle SMP Dynamic Saddle Selle SMP Dynamic Saddle
Undercarriage starting to tingle, in a bad way, during a long ride' It might be time for a new saddle, like the Selle SMP Dynamic Saddle. It's all about reducing pressure in key sensitive zones, with a dramatically dropped nose to provide a flat base without exerting excess stress on your down-belows. There's also an extra-large central channel to relieve pressure on soft tissue areas, and the back of saddle is raised to help you achieve an efficient pedaling position without the pain of squashed sit bones. Selle built the Dynamic's shell from a composite of nylon and carbon, which gives you a firm pedaling platform that won't transmit excessive road vibrations into your rear. The cushion comes from the foam elastomer padding, which is firm but forgiving, and the exterior of the saddle is either leather or Lorica, depending on color. Both are durable and smooth, and there's no weight difference to speak of. Selle SMP Glider 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle Selle SMP Glider 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle
Over the past 70 years, Selle SMP has gradually developed one of the most--if not the most--signature saddle profiles in the industry. To celebrate those seven decades, SMP is releasing a batch of 70th Anniversary Edition Glider Saddles, which feature some special branding and aesthetic embellishments that set them apart from the brand's already impeccably tailored fare. These include tricolor highlights--which are, admittedly, nothing new for Selle SMP--and a hand-painted plate underneath that's secured with bolts made by an Italian machinist. Those details don't affect how the saddle rides, of course, but they are indicative of the engineering and careful design that SMP dumps into all of its saddles. The Glider is based on the Stratos model, but it's built for slightly wider hips than its versatile parent saddle. As with all SMP saddles, the Glider features a drop beak-shaped nose which relieves pressure from soft tissue regions. This design also means that when you ride, it's easier to roll forward and keep a flat back. The tail kicks up to encourage that hip rotation, and the length of the saddle is bifurcated by a generous cutout, which adds yet more pressure relief to the most important point of bike/cyclist contact.

Selle SMP Glider Saddle Selle SMP Glider Saddle
Upon initial inspection, the Selle SMP saddles may not look like they would be your first choice in comfort. But, looks are deceiving, and once you try it, the Glider saddle may just end up being your favorite saddle. They aren't the lightest saddle on the market, but they have been developed and produced after careful consideration of how the body actually interfaces with the bike, and if you are going to spend countless hours in the saddle, comfort trumps weight. The Glider, as with all SMP saddles, features a drop beak-shaped nose which relieves pressure from soft tissue regions. This design also means that when you ride, it's easier to roll forward and keep a flat back. The paddle (widest part of the saddle) has been slightly elevated so that you have something to push on when you climb or take off in the break away. The center of the 136mm wide saddle features a wide cut out which eliminates pressure in the perineal zone. It also keeps all your "bits" from getting crushed. That "highly technical" term is being used all inclusive of the male and female anatomy. The saddle is built upon traditional steel rails and a nylon/carbon fiber composite shell. You won't need to worry about your saddle being able to handle daily grind-fests without collapsing. Additionally, the padding is a foamed elastomer so that it holds its shape. The cover in black is leather and microfiber in the red and white styles. The Selle SMP Glider Saddle is 136mm x 266mm and comes in Red, White, or Black.

Some riders, especially TT specialists, prefer to tip the nose down to the UCI legal limit to remove the pressure they would normally feel when they sit on the nose. The back of the saddle has a slight upward sweep to keep you in place and avoid sliding back and forth along the saddle during uphill efforts. This reduces additional friction and discomfort. It also helps to reduce pressure on the coccyx. The Pro uses elastomer foam that gives just enough to provide vibration dampening. Selle SMP Stratos 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle Selle SMP Stratos 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle
Selle SMP bills the Stratos as its most versatile pro-tier saddle. Fitting, then, that it's one of the headliners of the brand's 70th Anniversary Limited Edition Saddle line. Selle SMP has always been obsessed with details, but the anniversary Stratos gets some additional love in the form of tricolor details, special branding, even softer embroidery, a hand-painted baseplate, and special bolts machined in an Italian workshop. The result proves that versatility doesn't fade with age--or, as Il Campionissimo apocryphally has it, "age and treachery will overcome youth and skill." That's not to say there's no skill in the saddle's construction. Indeed, the contrary is true: it features SMP's signature drooping nose, which has won support both in the CC office and around the world for the way it spares soft, sensitive tissues the punishment of spending hours in the drops. A generous central channel also helps here, and the flat mid-section and raised tail offer support and help to rotate your hips into a powerful tilt. Comfort shouldn't come at the cost of efficiency.

Selle SMP Well Saddle Selle SMP Well Saddle
The Well Saddle combines a relatively wide frame with light padding and Selle SMP's signature drooping beak profile for a saddle that privileges pudendal comfort for riders with wide sit bones. The body is carbon-reinforced nylon, which adds a slight bump-absorbing give but doesn't become a trampoline that bounces you down the road during high cadence stretches. The synthetic cover isn't embroidered like some of Selle SMP's other models, but it does feature some light texturing to help keep your engine glued in place while you're grinding watts on a long climb. Where the body uses synthetics, the rails are thankfully just good old fashioned steel. Anyone who's either crushed carbon seatposts, handlebars, steerer tubes, or--yes--saddle rails will immediately recognize the value of steel at this part of the bike. Even on full carbon race machines, many of us still prefer to run steel here in order to avoid having to limp to the nearest LBS without a saddle because the carbon rails gave out after a crash or bump.

Weighing in at a claimed 170g, the XR1. 0 Carbon Saddle is a race-ready example of Syncros' mountain bike acumen. It uses 7 x 9mm carbon rails to absorb trail vibrations and shock to keep you comfortable whether you're riding on smooth singletrack or through never-ending rock gardens. The body is made with carbon in a nylon matrix with PU foam providing light cushioning to add comfort without turning the saddle into a trampoline. Syncros wraps a soft microfiber cover around the XR1. 0 to act as a durable face, and the saddle is designed with a pressure-relieving central channel for support where you need it and relief where you don't. Syncros also doesn't ask riders to settle for a standard width with this saddle, making it available in narrow and wide sizes. The wide option offers a significant 11mm of additional coverage for riders with wider sit bones to ensure discomfort doesn't send you home early from a day on the trails.

Syncros XR1.0 Carbon Saddle - Women's Syncros XR1.0 Carbon Saddle - Women's
Syncros' top-end XR 1. 0 Carbon Saddle was designed with a women's-specific fit and just enough cushioning for roosting berms and railing turns down singletrack all day. The addition of 7 x 9mm carbon rails and a carbon-injected nylon base add to the saddle's vibration damping powers across root-latticed trails and rocky climbs. Not strictly a race saddle, the XR 1. 0 has a light layer of PU cushioning for added comfort over long rides. The soft microfiber outer cover wrapped over the entire saddle to protect it from wear-and-tear from the elements is strictly race-minded, though. Syncros includes a pressure-relief channel in the middle of the saddle for a strategic distribution of weight, and the positive material surrounding the channel is shaped to accommodate women's anatomies. The XR 1. 0 is also available in two width options, so you don't have to sacrifice comfort for this lightweight, efficient addition to your mountain bike.

Syncros XR1.0 Carbon SL Saddle Syncros XR1.0 Carbon SL Saddle
Readying yourself for the upcoming XC race season usually involves taking an inventory of every component on your lean race build, seeing if there are any extra grams hiding where you don't want them. If your attention zeros in on your saddle, whether for its lack of comfort or its bulging waistline, swap it out for the Syncros XR1. 0 Carbon SL Saddle. With a newly updated high-modulus carbon shell, the XR1. 0 SL has weightlessness in mind. Its carbon shell absorbs vibrations and offers consistent rigidity, while saving weight over less expensive options. Syncros tops the shell with just enough Superlight EVA padding to prevent it from feeling like a medieval torture device, along with a tough microfiber cover to protect its internals from the elements. All of this sits atop oversized 7x9mm carbon fiber rails, which dampen vibrations from bumpy, rutted trails while eliminating weight compared to their heavier siblings. A central pressure-relief channel helps evenly distribute pressure in your nether regions, and Syncros gives you the choice between narrow and wide options so you can make sure you're getting a fit that'll be comfortable and supportive for the long haul.

Syncros XR1.5 Saddle - Women's Syncros XR1.5 Saddle - Women's
If you like the feel and low weight of Syncros' XR1. 0 saddles but aren't as enamored with the higher price, consider Syncros' XR1. 5 Women's Saddle. With the same women's-specific shape and race-ready weight, the saddle is constructed with hollow titanium rails instead of carbon to absorb vibrations as you crush through rock gardens and pedal over gravel. Though heavier than its pricier counterpart, titanium is less delicate, and it doesn't require you to use a torque wrench when making adjustments like carbon does. Aside from the titanium rails, the carbon-injected nylon base and light layer of PU cushioning on the XR1. 5 are both the same as those featured on the XR1. 0, so you'll gain the same comfort over long days on the trails without sacrificing overall efficiency. The soft microfiber cover around the saddle will resist wear from the elements over time, and a female-specific pressure-relief channel down the center of the XR1. 5 encourages healthy circulation and support where you need it while riding. As with many of its other saddles, Syncros offers the XR1. 5 in two width options to make sure riders aren't forced to settle with one standard size.

Terry Bicycles Butterfly Cromoly Gel Saddle - Women's Terry Bicycles Butterfly Cromoly Gel Saddle - Women's
When Georgena Terry brought women's specific bike design to the industry in 1985, she shaped a company destined to become a go-to for women cyclists. True to her passion of designing cycling gear that specifically addresses the fit and needs of women, she expanded the line to include saddles, the primary touch-point while riding. And while the company has expanded and grown, and Terry is no longer at the helm, the Butterfly Cromoly Gel saddle remains one of its most popular models. Designed in 1999, the Butterfly Saddle, is by no means dated. In fact, it embodies the best of the research and development Terry has done with both professional as well as recreational cyclists. Constructed on FeC Alloy rails, the Butterfly is 155mm wide at the paddle which provides support for women's wider sit bones. The flatter top means that the saddle will not put excess pressure on the soft tissue area between your sit bones. The injection molded foam is multiple densities, with a stiffer foam on the paddles and softer foam near the nose. Additionally, the Butterfly features a thin layer of supportive gel along the top. Unlike squishy seat covers, the gel inserts are firm and provide optimal support without added pressure against soft tissue. A traditional pear shape, the saddle features a full-length channel with a cutout which also helps to minimize pressure. The entire saddle is covered in smooth microfiber with textured leather. It is made in Italy and features the fine attention to detail that is the mark of Italian design. The Terry Butterfly Cromoly Gel Saddle weighs 369 grams and has a length of 262mm. It is available in Black.

Terry Bicycles FLX Gel Saddle - Women's Terry Bicycles FLX Gel Saddle - Women's
Professional women racers often prefer lighter weight, less padded saddles than recreational riders. Terry Bicycles sponsored a women's road cycling team for many years and through their collaboration with riders designed a saddle that is perfect for the most pedal-happy, die-hard racer out there. The FLX series is the latest in Terry Bicycles' saddle design featuring a unique shape and lighter weight. The FLX Gel is an intermediate between the softer Butterfly and the stiffer FLX Carbon. There are a few things to look for when deciding which is the optimal saddle for your riding and anatomy. First you'll want to know the width between your sit bones. Easily measurable, this tells you the approximate width of a saddle necessary to support your sit bones. While the Terry Butterfly measures 155mm, the FLX gel is a narrower 142mm. Many riders prefer a bit of cushioning when choosing a saddle. Terry's saddles feature varying degrees of cushioning to provide support for sit bones as well as appropriate relief for soft tissue areas. The FLX gel is not an un-padded saddle. It features a light layer of gel over the multi-density foam base. This layer helps to cushion sit bones that may not be accustomed to hours and hours in the saddle.Additionally, the FLX features a unique shape. Rather than a traditional one-piece pear-shape with a cutout, the shell is designed with an almost complete cutaway from the back area between the paddle to the nose. Unlike saddles that feature a rounded shape as well as a separate cut-out, the full length channel of the FLX provides pressure relief for tissue between the sit bones as well as for sensitive areas near the nose of the saddle. The rails of the FLX are constructed from durable Manganese and the entire saddle is covered in black leather with classic white patent leather accents. The Terry FLX saddle is 260mm long by 142mm wide and it weighs 258 grams. It is available in Black.

WTB High Tail Pro Saddle WTB High Tail Pro Saddle
As bikes get more and more travel-happy, components and accessories have to evolve to keep up. Saddles, though, are largely immune to changing bike design -- a seat's a seat, right' WTB disagrees, and so it teamed up with Chris Cocalis, the founder of Pivot Cycles, and Dave Weagle, inventor and namesake of the DW-Link suspension, to designed the High Tail Pro Saddle specifically to accommodate long-travel bikes that might otherwise buzz your saddle when the suspension is fully compressed. By shortening the saddle to 255mm and including a rear cut-out, WTB made sure the High Tail won't get buzzed on bikes with compact rear frames, big wheels, and plush suspensions. A shorter tail makes it easier to get your weight off the back when you're descending, and WTB's signature DNA padding and responsive-but-comfortable Flex-Tuned shell provide personalized and high-quality comfort. While the High Tail was made with DH and enduro riding in mind, it's light and comfortable enough to work as a trail, XC, or even road saddle, so don't hesitate to throw it on your ride of choice.

It's dropped nose and rising whale-tail back prevent short hang-ups and give you a platform to push against when you're climbing, and the Flex-Tuned shell blends suppleness and responsiveness so you have great feel without getting hammered to smithereens on rough trails.
