3T Arx LTD Stealth Stem 3T Arx LTD Stealth Stem
Satin black is cool. Many of today's top-shelf bikes are designed with a menacing mix of gloss and satin black. To upgrade one of these race-bred rigs with bright, shouty components would defeat the purpose. To hang your handlebar on anything less than the 3T ARX LTD Stealth Stem would be nothing short of sacrilege. The 3T ARX LTD Stealth stem is a perfect match for any 3T handlebars, but they've also made a nod to the practical by making it perfectly compatible with other manufacturers' bars. This is possible because particular attention has been paid to the design of the clamp. Recognizing that modern steerer tubes and handlebars are often made from delicate composite materials, the ARX clamp interface is specifically intended to clamp the handlebar and steerer securely for even the most rugged, Roubaix-like conditions, but gently enough so to ensure that none of the clamped material is compromised. How secure-but-gentle is it' So much so that it's passed the rigorous CEN certification standards test. 3T designs their products from the inside out rather than the outside in. That means that they make use of the natural characteristics of the material in their designs. Composite materials have a grain, like wood, so they're stronger in one plane than another. The key to building strong, light structures using composite material is to tailor the grain of the fibers to line up along the load path. That's why the ARX LTD Stealth stem sports that impossibly sexy unidirectional carbon look rather than a more typical woven appearance.

3T ARX LTD Stem 3T ARX LTD Stem
The ARX LTD Stem is the only stem in 3T's road line made from carbon fiber. While we're not sure why the Team stem didn't get the same treatment, the end result is that the ARX LTD drops an additional 7g of claimed weight compared to the closest alloy competitor in the Italian manufacturer's component armada. The LTD model's carbon construction also means that it's the stiffest stem in 3T's line, so you'll be that much more efficient when you're hammering out of the saddle and every watt lost to a flexing front end is one less you have to cover moves or launch your own attack. Compared to the improved power transfer, the stem's minimal weight savings are, well, minimal; however, when you've already trimmed the maximum grams from your frame, wheels, and drivetrain, dropping minimal weight in the cockpit may be what pushes your non-UCI-legal ride under the coveted 14lb mark. If your quest to drop weight has also led you to a carbon handlebar, then rest assured that the wide spacing of the ARX LTD's faceplate clamp splays the bolts out nice and wide. This diffuses the clamping force across a wider area so that less torque is needed for a secure fit and the torque you do wrench into the titanium bolts isn't concentrated on a narrow spot on the bar. The light texturing inside the clamping area also helps to achieve a firm fit with less torque, and it reduces the risk of carbon-on-carbon creaks and pops when you're using carbon bars.

3T DiffLock LTD Seatpost - 0 Offset 3T DiffLock LTD Seatpost - 0 Offset
By replacing the heavier alloy head found on the lower-tier models in its family, 3T slims the DiffLock LTD Seatpost with 0 Offset down by a claimed 5 to 35g, depending on which model you're comparing it to. While calling aluminum heavy and celebrating such apparently trivial weight losses may seem a bit hyperbolic, the DiffLock LTD Seatpost represents one of the final, incremental upgrades toward lighter machine that an XC or enduro racer can take. One feature that the LTD shares with its heavier cousins is 3T's DiffLock adjustment system. DiffLock involves a series of interlocking splines that let you precisely dial your saddle angle in half-degree increments for a position as customizable as the seatpost is lightweight. It also requires minimal torque force, so your saddle is easy to adjust with a classic multi-tool. Since sliding it fore and aft won't alter the saddle angle, you can use the DiffLock's full range without worrying that adjustments will affect your preferred setup.

3T DiffLock Pro Seatpost - 0 Offset 3T DiffLock Pro Seatpost - 0 Offset
A seatpost is a pretty utilitarian component, but it still has to do its job well without creating issues. 3T's DiffLock Pro 0 Offset Seatpost gets it done with a tough aluminum alloy construction, zero-offset design, and 3T's unique DiffLock clamping mechanism. DiffLock's interlocking splines hold your saddle rails precisely to within half a degree for perfect alignment, and require minimum torquing force, so your saddle is easy to adjust, even mid-ride. Sliding it fore and aft won't alter the saddle angle, either, so you can utilize the DiffLock's full range without worrying that adjustments will affect your riding.

3T Ionic 0 LTD Seatpost 3T Ionic 0 LTD Seatpost
The 3T Ionic 0 LTD seatpost keeps rider weight forward for quick, precise handling and a more aggressive pedaling position. This high-modulus carbon fiber seatpost also absorbs road vibration to reduce fatigue and increase comfort on long rides. 3T used a blend of lightweight and durable carbon and aluminum for the construction of the Ionic. The high modulus carbon is 3T's top-of-the-line carbon. Atop the post, 3T uses it sophisticated Difflock seat clamp. This is a single-bolt clamp was built from alloy and it is compatible with saddles that have 7mm round rails. 3T Ionic 0 Pro Seatpost 3T Ionic 0 Pro Seatpost
Purists and old-schoolers alike often fall back on aluminum's proven performance in areas of the bike where strength is absolutely critical. 3T's Ionic 0 Pro seatpost is identical to the Team version in every way, except that it features an alloy shaft. Instead of the carbon used in the Team, Ltd, and Stealth versions, the Pro Ionic seatpost utilizes a full aluminum alloy construction. It gains a few grams, 30 to be exact, but maintains the robust feel of carbon. Atop the post, 3T uses it sophisticated Difflock seat clamp. 3T Ionic 25 LTD Seatpost 3T Ionic 25 LTD Seatpost
The 3T Ionic 25 LTD seatpost combines 3T's top-notch high modulus carbon fiber with a 25mm offset for light weight, vibration absorption, and a neutral seat position. Constructed from alloy and carbon, this Ionic 25 LTD features 3T's high modulus carbon for the seatpost itself. It is designed using 3T's Clean Sheet design, which means that the way it is formed makes optimal use of the carbon weave sheets and their individualized properties. High modulus carbon fiber has a higher strength to weight ratio than standard carbon, yet it still functions to dampen vibration from rough roads. Placed on top of the carbon post is 3T's proprietary Difflock seat clamp. Unlike most clamps that require extreme flexibility and a creative technique to loosen two bolts and properly adjust the saddle, the Difflock features a single bolt. The saddle is easily adjustable for both angle and fore-aft position with the turn of a single hex bolt.

The Ionic seatposts by 3T are a new series that feature its proprietary Difflock seat clamp. The Ionic 25 Pro features a robust and sophisticated design that is ideal for the rider who needs a more rearward position on a shorter frameset. The entry level Ionic 25 is called the Pro. It was constructed with aluminum alloy construction for the entire seatpost and clamp assembly. While this adds a few grams (35 to be exact) to the overall weight of the post, it makes up for it in price. The setback is 25mm, which gives riders a more relaxed position and is also an ideal compromise on a frame with a more aggressive seat tube angle. Sitting on top of the post is 3T's Difflock saddle clamp. This is a single bolt clamp that allows for quick and easy adjustment of both saddle angle and fore-aft position. The hex key both is easy to reach and you're able to adjust for setback without disrupting seat angle. The 3T Ionic 25 Pro seatpost comes in two widths: 27. 2 and 31. 6mm. 3T Stylus 0 LTD Seatpost 3T Stylus 0 LTD Seatpost
The zero setback of 3T's Stylus 0 LTD Seatpost may lack the compliant comfort of the 25mm setback version, but its uncompromising position moves your hips up -- much closer to centered on the bottom bracket. This means you can harness your engine's power more efficiently while sitting in the saddle's more comfortable cradle rather than up on the far less forgiving nose. Some cyclists may prefer to maximize comfort and stability with a setback post, but if pure power is your game, then zero setback is the only option. Both the post and the clamping plate are monocoque, high-modulus carbon fiber, which puts weight loss above all else -- including cost -- in order to maximize on the watts you're pouring into the road. All told, its claimed weight of 150g for a 31. 6 x 280mm model brings the Stylus 0 LTD in at just 75% of the Stylus Team's weight, making it the lightest model in 3T's line. The two carbon pieces are joined with the new Stylus clamping system, which secures the saddle with two bolts situated just inside of either saddle rail. This design more effectively distributes load pressure, which is a must for clamping carbon to carbon -- especially if you're clamping carbon rails. Despite its all-comers ease of use, we do recommend using a torque wrench tuned at or below the max suggested torque of 10Nm while tightening the Stylus 0 LTD's twin bolts. This tolerance is relatively high for any cockpit component, and we're especially impressed given that -- unlike the carbon post and alloy clamp of the Team model or the Pro model's all alloy construction -- the LTD pits carbon against carbon. That high tolerance speaks volumes about not only 3T's carbon fiber expertise but the confidence the Italian company has in the durability of its high-modulus carbon fiber, which is unique to the LTD model.

3T Stylus 0 Pro Seatpost 3T Stylus 0 Pro Seatpost
In designing the Stylus 0 Pro Seatpost, 3T wanted to create a "fresh new take on the 2-bolt seatpost," which is exactly what was accomplished with this post's clamping interface. The sleek design provides a solid, lightweight base for mounting your saddle, and it's built with the attention to minute details that 3T is known for. The Stylus 0 Pro Seatpost's shaft is constructed from a lightweight and durable shot-peened aluminum. Long a staple material choice among professional cyclists for its durability, aluminum also provides low weight and smooth riding characteristics. Atop the post, 3T adds its refined 2-bolt alloy head. This new finned clamping interface is where the post really shines, as 3T spent considerable time getting both the look and functionality just right. The alloy head features a rearward 'swoosh' that was modeled after the classic single-bolt designs of the good old days, keeping that traditional aesthetic alive. The two clamping bolts were placed on either side of the saddle-support cradle, resulting in a secure, stable clamping interface that's easy to adjust. The zero setback model accommodates all the puncheurs who prefer an aggressive positioning in favor of being set back, allowing them to easily get forward on the saddle and down in an aerodynamic position.

3T Stylus 0 Team Stealth Seatpost 3T Stylus 0 Team Stealth Seatpost
Italian component manufacturer 3T built a company around small, hardworking parts that we take for granted every time we ride -- after all, we never head out on a ride with a spare seatpost. The Stylus 0 Team Stealth Seatpost is part of 3T's newer line of zero setback seatposts, offering a sleek clamp interface that's a purposeful departure from the traditional 2-bolt design and that will add only a claimed 195g to your setup. The post is made with carbon fiber to help absorb fatiguing road vibrations, and the aluminum head's rearward 'swoosh' design is a nod to the classic single-bolt seatposts of decades past. 3T positions the clamp bolts on either side of the saddle to add stability to the design and to make quick adjustments easy. With zero setback, you'll save weight and gain a more forward position on the bike, making it easier to access your drops or aerobars when you want to ride in an aerodynamic position.

3T Stylus 25 Team Stealth Seatpost 3T Stylus 25 Team Stealth Seatpost
A new addition to 3T's setback post collection, the Stylus 25 Team Stealth Seatpost brings a "fresh new take on the two-bolt seatpost" to the company's line with a sleek new clamping interface that sets it apart from other offset posts. This integrated design provides a solid, lightweight base for mounting your saddle, and it relies on the same proven materials and craftsmanship we associate with all things 3T. The Stylus 25 Team Stealth blends a carbon fiber post and refined 2-bolt alloy saddle clamp with 25mm of setback for more vertical compliance and added stability on fast descents as compared with the zero offset model. The new, finned clamping interface is where the post really shines though, as 3T spent considerable time getting both the look and functionality just right. The alloy head features a rearward "swoosh" that was modeled after the classic single-bolt designs of the good ol' days, keeping that traditional aesthetic alive. 3T Vola Pro Alloy Aerobars 3T Vola Pro Alloy Aerobars
An award-winning bar, the new 3T Vola Pro Alloy Aerobar is ideal for triathletes and time-trialists who don't feel the need for a full carbon bar, at three times the price. Durability, adjustability, and comfort set this bar apart from the crowd. For added strength and durability, the Vola was built from hydroformed aluminum. Hydroforming is a process whereby high pressure fluid pushes room-temperature materials into a mold. This process allows for complex shapes as well as an increased stiffness to weight ratio that is otherwise not achievable with a more standard die-cut process. It creates a unibody design that allows the bullhorns to be shaped to accommodate your hands comfortably. The bars themselves are 42cm wide. They include alloy extensions that have been shaped to clear the wrists. To securely and comfortably support your forearms, the neoprene elbow pads sit atop composite carbon fiber cradles. The bars are adjustable in several directions to customize your fit. The cradle width moves from 226 to 292mm. The reach of the extensions is adjustable from 20-70mm and the rise features 10, 10, and 30mm spacers to maximize out at 87mm in height. The 3T Vola Pro Alloy Aerobars work with a 31. 8mm stem. They are drilled for internal cable routing and come in a 42cm width.

Campagnolo Athena Skeleton Dual-Pivot Brakes Campagnolo Athena Skeleton Dual-Pivot Brakes
As cyclists, we tend to make considerable sacrifices in pursuit of lower weight, but trading safety for weight just seems boneheaded to us. That's why we're pleased that Campagnolo is now offering dual pivot calipers in the front and rear on the Athena Skeleton Dual-Pivot Brakes. They do gain a few grams over a dual/single set, but the extra stopping power may mean the difference between a close call and a bad end to a ride. Dual-pivot brakes have a greater lever length on both sides, so they produce more power on the wheel's braking track. Previous setups have used dual-pivot up front but a single-pivot model in the back. Two dual-pivot brakes means that you've got maximum stopping power for maximum safety. This is further complemented by the forged skeleton design, which was and remains focused on stopping power, ease of use, and lightness. Its strength is due to the fact that no part of its body is machined. The Athena brakes don't have the orbital adjustment of the Chorus, Record, and Super Record branded brakes, and they weigh a claimed 19 grams more than the heaviest of those three. Other than that, they enjoy all of the functionality of Campy's other brakes, including the special compound brake pads and the safety tab that keeps them in place. The tab is in the back half of the shoe and is released with a little leverage from a small, common screwdriver.

Campagnolo Carbon Brake Pad - 2-Pack Campagnolo Carbon Brake Pad - 2-Pack
Though we all have our own partisan affiliations when it comes to components, it's hard to argue against the supremacy of Campagnolo wheels. The bearings, the iconic branding, the reliability of Italian-built carbon--virtually every wheel wish list reserves a top-three spot for carbon hoops from Vicenza. If you're among the fortunate few to own a pair, then you owe it to yourself to protect them with Campagnolo's Carbon Brake Pad Set. The pads are made with a blend of compounds designed to interact with Campagnolo's brake tracks, contributing to more confident stopping power on all of the Italian brand's carbon rims but having even greater effect when paired with the 3Diamant brake track found on the latest generation of Bora 35 and 50 wheelsets. Campagnolo claims that these gains manifest in both dry and wet conditions. That's great on paper, but what really matters is what it does on the road. To prove this point, we present exhibit 16--as in, stage 16 of the 2014 Giro. Nairito staged a pink-jersey coup on this stage with a daredevil descent of the Stelvio in snowy, wet conditions so severe that they caused confusion about stage neutralization among the other teams. When he made his move, the diminutive Colombian had the confidence of Bora 35s and Campy's Carbon Brake Pads underneath him, ensuring he'd have responsive braking so he could carry speed into corners and consolidate his lead as much as possible on the descent. If you're on Campy wheels, running ho-hum generics or--worse--alloy-specific pads is the equivalent of assembling all of the internal ingredients for a proper ruben and then sandwiching it between sourdough--that is, if using sourdough instead of marbled rye entailed a risk of catastrophic wheel failure. If you've invested in a set of Boras or Hyperons, you've probably also invested in countless early mornings in the pain cave in an effort to weaponize your body for race day. Running the wrong pads risks destroying both wheels and body, so maki..

Campagnolo Record 11 Skeleton Dual-Pivot Brakes Campagnolo Record 11 Skeleton Dual-Pivot Brakes
If we've ever had any complaint with Campagnolo's Record 11 Skeleton Brakes, it's that they were only dual-pivot in the front. There is a slight trade-off for weight, and some will claim that the extra stopping power of a dual-pivot rear brake is unnecessary, but the extra stopping power of two dual-pivot brakes is something that, if you ever need it, you'll definitely be glad to have. Dual-pivot brakes have a greater lever length on both sides, so they produce more power on the wheel's braking track. Previous setups have used dual-pivot up front but a single-pivot model in the back. Two dual-pivot brakes means that you've got maximum stopping power for maximum safety. You didn't kit your machine out with Campagnolo's flagship groupset in order to stop, you did it to take advantage of Super Record's unrivaled precision and weight to go really, really fast. Of course, certain situations demand discretion, and by blending the stopping power of a dual-pivot front brake with the low weight of a single-pivot rear, the Super Record 11 Skeleton Brakes keep you safe without breaking the scale. The Super Record 11 Skeleton Brakes save even more weight by replacing some of Record's aluminum hardware with lighter titanium. They also benefit from some trickle-down technology, featuring the same serviceable ball-bearing design, orbital adjustment, and aramide-reinforced elastomer brake pads featured on Record and Chorus. They also have the same safety tab that keeps your brake pads from accidentally falling out. The tab is in the back half of the shoe and is released with a little leverage from a small, common screwdriver. The forged skeleton design of the brakes' bodies is similar to the previous generation's, which was and remains focused on stopping power, ease of use, and lightness. The entire body is forged, so no part of the body is CNC machined. That means there are no artificial weak points where structural failure might become a problem -- a comforting thought when you're braking hard on a tight corner during a fast descent.

For 2015, almost every piece of the new Super Record groupset has seen a serious redesign. Those who were deterred from Campagnolo because of the single-pivot rear can now sally forth into Mundo Campagnolo and get that Campagnolo aegis tattoo they've long dreamed about. The Super Record brakes in 2015 retain the updated brake shoes, brake pads, and graphics of their predecessors. Cane Creek ZS49/EC49 AngleSet Tapered Headset Kit Cane Creek ZS49/EC49 AngleSet Tapered Headset Kit
For those who obsess about steering feel and how it affects the ride experience, there is Angleset. Cane Creek created it so that you could change your effective head tube angle in order to get exactly what you want in terms of how your bike feels and performs under certain trail conditions. This AngleSet 1. 5" Tapered Headset Kit - ZS49/EC49 is designed to fit bike frames with a straight 1. 5" headtube -- 49mm ID on top and bottom. The external lower cup offers room for the oversize crown race of a 1. 5" tapered fork as well. How does it work' It's simple really. The upper cup on Cane Creek's ZS49/EC49 Angleset Headset is available in three versions (included) -- . 5, 1. 0, and 1. 5. They have offset bearing bores (relative to the press-fit skirt) and can be installed forwards or backwards, yielding a total available angle range of 3 based from the centerline of the headtube. This means that if you're bike has a head tube angle of 68 this headset will allow you to make angular changes down to 66. 5 or up to 69. 5 or between those marks, depending on which of the three cups you install. Both upper and lower bearings are housed in gimbals that self-adjust for the angular correction so that your headset gets a perfect, clunk-free fit when you set it up. The benefit of the Angleset is that you can customize the steering feel of your bike exactly to your liking. Like their top-of-the-line 110 series headsets, the Angleset cups and gimbal parts are machine from 7075-T6 aluminum. They use Cane Creek's black oxide bearings. The races and balls start out as 52100 steel and are then given an acid bath to make them more corrosion resistant, while still being porous enough to retain grease. They are angular contact bearings (ACB), which resist both axial and radial loads equally well. The cartridges are sealed with what Cane Creek likes to call a Split Lip Seal, which has two contact seals per side to better keep out contaminants and hold in grease. The Cane Creek An...

Challenge Strada Tubular Tire Challenge Strada Tubular Tire
There's no denying that experiencing a great tubular tire is a wonderful experience. You won't believe that your bike could be so smooth and fast. So if you're going to make the switch to tubulars, do yourself a favor and wrap some Challenge Strada Tubular Tires around your hoops, because Challenge simply does it right. For the casing of the Strada, Challenge used its handmade, highly puncture-resistant, and lightweight SuperPoly material. With its 300 threads per inch (TPI), you receive a remarkably supple ride that you'll feel the first time out. On top of the casing, Challenge added a belt of corespun polyester, made by twisting fibers around a central filament core, creating one yarn from multiple strands. As a result, the material is between 40 and 50% stronger than typically spun materials, while retaining a similar, if not lower, overall weight. This layer is what Challenge calls its PPS (Puncture Protection System), and it's specifically made from the tightly woven polyester material to preserve the casing's supple feel. The 25mm-wide profile was then wrapped with the popular Paris Roubaix herringbone tread pattern, a design that continues to be one of Challenge's most versatile for a variety of road surfaces. This low-profile pattern perfectly blends speed and grip. The tread was applied using Challenge's proven hand-glued methods, which involves mounting and then inflating the casing on a wheel. Only then does Challenge carefully glue on the tread layer. As a result, the tread isn't put under tension when you inflate the tire on your wheel, and that lack of tension leads to lower rolling-resistance, added grip, and increased comfort. The Challenge Strada Tubular Tire weighs approximately 285 grams each, comes in the colors Black/black and Black/tan, and in the 700c x 25mm size.

Ergon SRX3 Saddle Ergon SRX3 Saddle
Ergon sets its SRX3 line of saddles apart from traditional road saddle designs with a pronounced V-shape, giving road cyclists and cyclocross racers more opportunity to shift on the saddle as they move through different pedaling postures. The SRX3 Saddle occupies the entry-level space in that line, featuring the same shape as its pricier siblings paired with a mix of more affordable materials. If you're looking to branch into a different saddle shape for your road bike or are trying to outfit a 'cross bike with a saddle designed to accommodate the variety of positions you'll occupy throughout a race, the SRX3 is a practical investment. The SRX3 is constructed with a blend of common materials that include CroMo steel rails and a fiberglass composite shell, but the AirCell padding atop the saddle is less common. Proprietary to Ergon, AirCell features layers of tiny air pockets that absorb harsh road vibrations and provide support whether you're mashing on grass or spinning along your favorite road loop. Additional support comes in the form of the slight upturn at the rear of the SRX3, included to make it easier for riders to push back into the saddle and send an added burst of power to the pedals while climbing or grinding through a sandpit. The saddle anticipates quick dismounts at barriers and ahead of run-ups, and its overall flat topography was designed to make the process as smooth as possible.

FSA K-Force Light Stem FSA K-Force Light Stem
For some components, 'lightweight' and 'carbon' can be dirty words. In the early 2000's weight-weenie craze, the peloton suffered under the malleable malfeasance of poorly designed, lightweight cockpits. Well, those days are finally past us, in part, because of pristine designs like the FSA K-Force Light Stem having taught the cycling world a very important lesson--innovate or don't bother. The K-Force Light Stem does just that by using a total carbon and titanium construction that offers up rigidity, style, and massive weight savings. FSA's K-Force Light Stem features a 100% monocoque carbon fiber body construction. This design achieves an equilibrium between weight-savings and ride quality without sacrificing on either polarity. The K-Force Light provides a stiff and direct platform to the bars, while weighing in around an astoundingly low 150g. And while most weight-shaving stems feel more malleable than rigid, the K-Force's design avoids the wet-noodle-zeitgeist by eliminating any steel or alloy from the stem. You heard that right. The K-Force Light uses only titanium hardware to secure to the steer tube and to attach the carbon faceplate. The FSA K-Force Light Stem is available in four sizes from 100 to 130mm. Please note that this stem is only compatible with 1-1/8in steer tubes and 31. 8mm clamp diameter bars.

FSA SLK Stem FSA SLK Stem
FSA's SL-K Stem was constructed to provide rigid support for the handlebars, feeling similar in both weight and stiffness to carbon and titanium with a precise, CNC-machined aluminum construction. To guarantee rigidity, FSA 3D-forged the aluminum stem body. This process starts with one ingot of aluminum that is bored out and shaped internally. This improves the aluminum's grain structure and eliminates the use of welds for drastically reduced weight. The benefits to you are a heightened stiffness, with weight comparable to carbon fiber, at a considerably lower cost. To maintain the flow of weight savings, the SL-K uses a carbon fiber face plate with chrome-moly hardware. The SL-K features a 40mm fork-clamp stack height with a 6 degree rise. FSA has included clamp-to-clamp model graphics that run inverse of each other to keep the aesthetic unchanged whether you slam the stem or run positive rise. It is only compatible with 1-1/8in steerer tubes and 31. 8mm clamp diameter handlebars.

Garmin Vector 2 Power Meter Pedals Garmin Vector 2 Power Meter Pedals
They say good things come to those who wait, and in the case of the Garmin Vector 2 Power Meter Pedals, it's true. If you're looking to get more out of your training than just seeing where you stack up against competitors on apps, it's probably time to make the jump to a power meter, and after a few new upgrades for this year, now's a great time to choose the Vector pedals. One of the major highlights of the Vector 2 as a system is its ability to measure power coming through each leg independently. Some systems take one leg and double it to reach an overall power output, but most people have a dominant leg, and the Vector 2 will force you to confront a weaker side that could be slowing you down. Garmin's over-achieving design won't let you get away with much during a ride: it knows exactly how much time you spend in and out of the saddle, where you drive power through to the pedals, as well as which part of your pedal stroke is the most powerful, and it will tell you all of that using its interactive Garmin Connect platform, which stores all of your ride data and helps you make sense of the numbers. As the Vector 2 is a pedal-mounted system, you don't have to dread swapping it from your road bike to your mountain rig on a regular basis. In fact, sharing it amongst your quiver of bikes is encouraged. The whole system takes just a few minutes to install, so you can make a quick change before a ride without condemning yourself to an afternoon in the garage. Use the Vector 2 with either Look Keo or Garmin Vector 3-bolt cleats, and know quickly when the device has synced and is ready to go using the new LED indicator light.

Garmin Vector 2S Power Meter Pedals Garmin Vector 2S Power Meter Pedals
The Garmin Vector 2S Power Meter Pedals bring some new features to the table and provide powerful data tracking in an affordable, easy to install, and bike interchangeable format. With the Vector 2S, Garmin throws away the old washers found on the Vector S pedal pods and opted for a new, more user-friendly design that clamps over the pedal spindle. The Vector 2S pods also feature a new flashing LED system to provide information on pairing status and let you know when the battery is getting low. The Vector 2S still measures watts with a pod attached to the left pedal spindle, capturing power information as it transfers from the pedal into the crank arm. The sensor monitors tiny changes in the pedal spindle curve as force is applied to the pedal, and the data is transferred wirelessly via ANT+ technology to the head unit. You can see your power during rides and also download the data for analysis once you get home. The Vector 2S also has the option to upgrade and convert to a dual-sensing system with the Garmin Vector 2S Upgrade Pedal for additional data features such as left/right balance and pedal efficiency dynamics. The pedal itself has a lightweight composite body with a stainless steel wear plate to increase durability and provide a wide platform, reducing the chances of pressure points distracting from your ride. The adjustable tension binding also lets you customize the force required to twist the cleat out of the pedal and is compatible with Garmin Vector and Look Keo three-bolt cleats. The whole system runs on a standard 2032 coin cell battery located in the pedal pod for a claimed 175 hours of ride time per battery. When time's up, the batteries are easily replaceable with a quick trip to the grocery store and a twist of the battery cap. The Garmin Vector 2S Power Meter Pedals are available with standard pedal pods to fit crank arms 12mm to 15mm thick and up to 44mm wide or large pedal pods to fit crank arms 15mm to 18mm thick and up to 44mm wide. Jagwire Road Elite Link Shift Cable Kit Jagwire Road Elite Link Shift Cable Kit
Instead of the usual wire/rubber cocktail that most cable housing uses, Jagwire's Road Elite Link Shift Cable Kit girds its Teflon-coated cables with an exoskeleton of alloy links. The benefits are impressive, especially considering how counter-intuitive this construction seems at first blush. Compared to traditional housing, the Link carapace allows for trickier routing angles, enjoys increased durability, stays compression-free so shifting and braking doesn't get muddy after a few weeks, and -- most surprising of all -- is a claimed 20% lighter. The segmented anno look also makes for a distinctive style that complements a tire/saddle/tape color scheme or serves as an easy-to-spot beacon while rushing from the water into a crowded transition. Please note that Jagwire recommends this kit for Shimano or SRAM road builds only -- Campagnolo fans need not apply.

Look Cycle Keo Blade Carbon CR Road Pedals Look Cycle Keo Blade Carbon CR Road Pedals
The Look Keo Blade Carbon Pedals run the material gamut: carbon fiber body, chromoly spindle, stainless steel wear plate, and a blade of carbon fiber that flexes against the retention plate to hold the cleat in place. The only difference between these and the superlative Carbon Ti model is the spindle material. As noted above, the Carbon CR runs on a chromoly stick while the Carbon Ti features a lighter (and much pricier) titanium model. And anyway, steel is real. The chromoly spindle by no means makes the pedals heavyweights, though; with a claimed weight of just 110g per pedal, the Carbon CR enjoys a 100g reduction per pair compared to look models with a traditional, coiled steel spring. The secret is the Blade, a leaf spring that tensions the engagement mechanism without needing help from a lump of metal. Plus, it's carbon. And who needs an excuse to add more carbon parts to their bikes' The more traditional cyclists in the field might question the longevity of what is, essentially, just a bendy bit of carbon fiber. We did when first exposed to the design, too. But once we gave it the eyeball test, we were satisfied enough to throw everything we have into it. And by "eyeball test," we mean we saw the carbon Blade leaf spring in action with our own eyeballs beneath the likes of Sagan and Greipel. If those two powerhouses can't break the damned thing, than we don't stand a chance. While the carbon fiber blade is what creates the buzz, the rest is extremely tech-forward as well. The carbon fiber body is wider than the previous version, which was itself 17% wider than the original Keo. The platform increases from 62mm to 64mm, a move that bumps the surface area up to 700mm2. Despite that sprint-friendly platform, the cornering clearance is actually better because the extra width is on the top of the new pedal rather than the bottom. Cornering clearance is further improved by a reduced stack height, down from 15. 7mm in the previous model to 13mm. That doesn't s...

Look Cycle Keo Blade Carbon Ti Road Pedals Look Cycle Keo Blade Carbon Ti Road Pedals
A few years back, we were speaking with an American moto, mountain, and components pioneer who shall remain nameless to protect his identity. He commented that, in time, just about everything will be made of carbon fiber--even bottom bracket spindles. The carbon bottom bracket of the future isn't here just yet, but the steel spring might be on the way out, indicating that the pan-carbonium future may be near. Case in point: Look Cycle has figured out a way to use a carbon fiber leaf spring to replace the spring in its top model, the Look Keo Blade Carbon Ti Road Pedals. As a top-tier model, this pedal has everything: Carbon fiber body, titanium axle, stainless steel wear plate, and a carbon leaf spring (the titular Blade) that flexes against the retention plate to hold the cleat in place. The combination of materials (Hello titanium!) and design helps make the pedal crazy light without costing it any durability--with the big weight savings coming by eliminating the heavy, coiled steel spring that tensions traditional pedals. We admit that the lugged-frame, Reynolds 531 traditionalists at the CC office had initial fears that the blade presents an obvious weak spot; however, we've found that it'd take some serious work to accidentally disengage the blade or break it. And we're not alone. Pedals equipped with Look's carbon Blade leaf spring have become conspicuous in head-on bike-throw photos of sprint finishes under the likes of Sagan and Greipel. Those mythical figures have yet to break the Blades, so we mortals don't stand much of a chance. It'd take a literal hammer blow to just the right spot, and we prefer to confine our bike-related hammering to the figurative realm. The materials and engagement aren't the only sign of the future being upon us. This pedal's platform is wider than the previous Keo, which was itself 17% wider than its predecessor. This ups the surface area from 402mm2 to a Gorilla-approved 700mm2, providing a more generous base for the huge wa...

Profile Design Prosvet Carbon Basebar Profile Design Prosvet Carbon Basebar
Plenty of innovation happens inside and outside of UCI regulations, so deciding which side is best to be on comes down to what type of racing you'll be doing. With Profile Design's Prosvet Carbon Basebar, you won't be UCI-legal, but for plenty of triathlons, that's not a requirement. These bars strive to provide riders with an option that's aggressively aerodynamic while still controllable. The Prosvet looks similar to Profile Design's Svet Zero basebars, but in exceeding the 3:1 ratio, it has a few key differences. Made from multi-directional carbon fiber to absorb road vibration and provide a stiff racing platform, the Prosvet has a more aggressive -20mm drop compared to the Svet Zero, orienting you farther forward, with brake extensions that include upturned rather than straight ends to allow for a wider variety of hand positions. The slim wings on the tops of the Prosvet are deeper than the similarly-shaped Svet Zero's, which helps create less drag but also provides stability and comfort while you're climbing a hill or riding back into transition -- a nice practical extra that shows Profile Design didn't focus on speed at the expense of maneuverability with this model. The Prosvet is compatible with a wide variety of extensions, and fits on 31. 8mm diameter handlebars. To keep your racing bike looking clean, the bars come pre-slotted for use with Di2 components, and will only add about 200-220g to your frame depending on which width you choose.

Profile Design Svet Zero Carbon Basebar Profile Design Svet Zero Carbon Basebar
Developing a set of base bars that offer the least possible amount of wind resistance while maintaining a UCI-legal 3:1 ratio is a goal that requires a good deal of fine-tuning. Profile Design took its time a few years ago with the Svet Zero Carbon Basebar, and has since not felt compelled to change its sleek, customizable design that's well suited for use in UCI-sanctioned races and triathlons. Multi-directional carbon fiber construction keeps the weight of these base bars low, at between 200g and 210g, depending on which size you end up with. It also serves to help absorb road vibrations while providing plenty of stiffness for racing. By designing the Svet Zero with a true zero drop, Profile Design ensures you'll stay in a low, aerodynamic position even while riding out of the saddle, an objective that's helped further by the overall forward orientation of the bars. The flat, wing-shaped tops of the bars were included to slice through wind, but also provide a comfortable place to rest your palms when you're recovering or climbing. Profile Design paid attention to comfort when creating the straight brake extensions as well, delivering another relatively natural position to ride in -- a nice option when you're looking at investing in aggressive aerobars. If you're worried about what cables would do to a clean-looking set of base bars like these, set your mind at ease with the knowledge that they come pre-slotted and ready to be used with Di2 components. The Svet Zero is compatible with 31. 8mm handlebars, and it works with a variety of extension options.

Profile Design T2 Wing Base Bar Profile Design T2 Wing Base Bar
With the option of buying your base bar and extensions as a kit-of-parts, riders of all levels and budgets are now able to fully customize their triathlon or time trial bike. The Profile Designs T2 Wing Base Bar gives you the same wind-cheating shape as a carbon bar, only in a more economical aluminum version. This 6061 aluminum wing profile was designed to mimic the wing shape of the carbon Viper Wing base bar. It's a flat bar, meaning that there's zero drop from the top to the bullhorns. In addition, the bar between the center clamp area and the bullhorns has been flattened (in line with the UCI 3:1 ratio) minimizing the profile of the bar in the wind. In terms of comfort, the T2 features a shape that's easy to rest your hands on between efforts. Additionally, the reach to the bullhorns is 157mm. This allows you to position your hands on the bullhorns, much as you would on brake hoods, for either climbing or out-of-the-saddle riding. The ends of the horns were designed for plug-style bar-end brake levers. There are also cut-outs in the side, so you're able to thread cables through the bar and then out the back. Likewise, there are also cut-outs for older clamp-style brake levers where you have to run the cable externally. The Profile Design T2 Wing Base Bar is compatible with a 31. 8mm stem. It's available in a 40, 42, and 44cm width (measured center-to-center) and in the color Black. Please note that this bar weighs in around 250 to 265 grams depending your selected width.

Profile Design T2+ Clip-On TT Bars Profile Design T2+ Clip-On TT Bars
For years, the ski-bend aero bar was everything. Luckily, people weren't satisfied. Eventually, racers were cutting off the ends of their ski-bend bars, which led to a straight bar being tested in the tunnel. Aero, when parallel or nearly parallel to the ground, yes. The resulting position was more like a bullet. It worked for some, but for most it was too low. So, with a subtle S-bend, Profile Design's T2+ Clip-On TT Bars are the solution. Your hands are still low and "aggressive," but the difference in height between your armrests and the end of the extensions is minimized to enhance comfort. The big difference between using a ski-bend and an S-bend is that the S-bend, ironically, is more like how skiers hold their poles when fully tucked -- your wrists are bent and your hands are tilted down. The 335mm S-bend extensions are made of 6061 aluminum and are mated to the same clamps and hardware found on the T1 aero bars. The handlebar clamps, made from forged 6061 aluminum, tighten to the bars separately from the extensions. These clamps are separate from the armrests. So, you're able to first determine the appropriate width, and then set the length of the extensions and angle of the armrests. And since the armrest clamp is round on a round tube, you're able to adjust the cant of the armrests. Accordingly, this provides some height adjustment, as well as allowing you the opportunity to have the armrests tilted inward or outward. For those who like a narrow position, having the armrests tilted upward toward the stem provides a secure feeling. And for those who prefer a wide position, we recommend that you lower the armrests and tilt them outward. The armrest clamps, known as J2 Brackets, are also able to be moved fore and aft on the extensions themselves. J2 brackets allow the user to set the F-19 armrests at two different widths, three fore/aft positions, and to adjust the angle of the rests. Included with the F-19 armrests are 12mm spacers that allow a higher r...

Schwalbe Pro One Tire - Tubeless Schwalbe Pro One Tire - Tubeless
Schwalbe's recently updated tubeless road tire, the Pro One Tubeless Tire, sheds weight and rolling resistance compared to the original One tire. Given these advantages, the Pro One makes a compelling case for racing on tubeless tires, and we can only hope to see more race wheels offered in the future that are compatible with them. To improve upon an already solid tire, Schwalbe started with triple compound rubber, adding Snakebite and Sidewall protection that teams with a liquid, tubeless sealant to retain air pressure over time and help resist punctures. The firm center strip improves the rolling resistance by a claimed ten percent while softer shoulders grip the tarmac for control while cornering at high speeds. Schwalbe's MicroSkin construction adds durability to the Pro One, helping the tire resist ill-intentioned debris on the roads so you get through your race flat-free, while the tubeless construction allows you to race with the tires at lower air pressure and eliminates friction between the tube and tire that can slow you down.

Made with a durable Fibra-Tek cover and Titanium 316 rails, the Iron Flow S Saddle is the slimmer option within the Iron Flow line, built for those with narrower hips and sit bones. Selle Italia begins by addressing concerns of discomfort with a generous cut-out in the middle of the Iron Flow. As with the Italian company's road models, this improves circulation and relieves pressure on sensitive areas. The tri-specific Iron Flow also takes the cut-out one step further by leaving the nose split and bridging the gap with rubber in an open honeycomb pattern. This helps facilitate airflow so you can finish your bike leg chafe-free in dry shorts. The shape of the saddle itself addresses chafing as well, with the nose retaining vertical sides and a dramatically tapered shape for more thigh clearance while pedaling. The weight of the Iron Flow is low overall, at a claimed 265g, and Selle Italia engineers were careful to keep it that way when adding extra padding. They chose to build up just the rear of the saddle with cushioning, which tilts hips forward for lower back support and more leverage on aerobars. The saddle helps you maintain your position so you can focus on squinting at the ages written on the calves of riders you're passing or who are passing you. Past the rear, the saddle's body extends in a shape reminiscent of the spoiler on a sports car to further improve aerodynamics -- hopefully gaining you precious seconds heading into T2.

Selle Italia Iron Tekno Flow L Saddle Selle Italia Iron Tekno Flow L Saddle
Selle Italia brings decades of expertise making saddles by hand to the world of triathlon with its Iron Tekno Flow L Saddle. With eye-catching honeycomb flair and a hit of Italian tricolor, the Iron Tekno line offers triathletes an innovative, functional design that separates itself from the more traditional tri saddles on the market. If you've used Selle's idmatch fit guide and have found you need a saddle that accommodates wider sit bones, the wider Flow L design is the Iron Tekno model for you. The patented construction process Selle Italia uses in its CarboKeramic rails involves fusing carbon fiber with a ceramic particle-infused resin, creating a material that Selle engineers credit with being both stronger and lighter than carbon alone. A Fibra-Tek cover is stretched over the saddle's full carbon body and light padding, the latter of which is strategically placed to add comfort without bulk. Instead of just relying on materials for comfort, Selle shaped the saddle itself to provide more comfort in the places triathletes need it. The Tekno Flow features better clearance between the saddle and inner thighs to prevent chafing and a layer of honeycombed rubber between the rails to facilitate airflow and dry your chamois as quickly as possible out of T1. Selle placed heavy emphasis on making sure the Iron Tekno line would be both efficient and comfortable for riders spending an extended amount of time on aerobars. At 145mm, the saddle's widest point has an upturned shape with padding to add support and keep hips rotated forward. The saddle tapers into an aerodynamically shaped nose, and the carbon construction helps keep the overall weight lower than most tri saddles at a claimed 210g.

Selle SMP Avant Saddle Selle SMP Avant Saddle
Though Selle SMP has been making saddles in Italy since just after WWII, the brand inexplicably christened the Avant Saddle with a French word. The choice is doubly confusing given that "avant" translates to "before" when the saddle's recommended use situates it closer to the "behind" side of things. Semantic nitpicking disappears once you're actually atop the Avant, though, as it presents a wide, generously padded (by Selle SMP's standards) face to your derriere. Maybe the saddle's confusing title is meant to stress that it puts comfort ahead of any other criteria. The Avant is built with wide sit bones in mind, and Selle SMP recommends it for men whose waists range from 34 to 39in and women in the 32 to 37in range. Strategic cutouts and a the iconic, drooping nose help ensure that the soft tissues between sit bones don't suffer. This is especially apparent when sitting forward on the saddle to drive a high pace on the flats. The embroidered branding on the full-leather (black) or blemish-free synthetic (colored) cover adds a touch of Italian elegance--though, to be fair, we've just come to expect this from Selle SMP.

Selle SMP Blaster Saddle Selle SMP Blaster Saddle
We're used to seeing pressure-relieving cutouts on road saddles, and Selle SMP understands that trail riders might want the comfort of its signature cutout channel too. The Selle SMP Blaster Saddle blends the company's renowned pressure-relieving design and a durable nylon/carbon composite shell for a resulting versatility to span both road and mountain applications. Like the all-rounder Stratos and Dynamic, the Blaster is best suited for cyclists with average-width pelvises, as it features a moderate profile and a fairly minimal amount of padding. At the nose, there's the characteristic "beak" shape designed to provide a flat base while sitting that minimizes pressure. Down the center, SMP's pronounced central channel further reduces pressure on the pudendal nerve and surrounding soft tissue. The back of the saddle is raised for an enhanced seated pedaling position, where body weight is divided between the rear and lower part of the ischial tuberosity region. This shape also helps reduce overall pressure on the coccyx while riding over rough surfaces.

The Drakon falls between the Lite 209 and Dynamic in Selle SMP's lineup. It features a moderate profile and a minimal amount of padding, and it's intended for riders with medium-width pelvises. The nose's "beak" shape provides a flat base while sitting without excessive pressure, and the saddle's prominent central channel further reduces pressure on the pudendal nerve and surrounding soft tissue. In addition, Selle SMP raised the back of the saddle to improve the pedaling position. The saddle's shape also reduces overall pressure on the coccyx. The Drakon features durable nylon/carbon shell on stainless steel rails, and the saddle's foam elastomer padding is wrapped in leather (for the black version) or a Lorica microfiber (for the colored version).

Selle SMP Dynamic Saddle Selle SMP Dynamic Saddle
Undercarriage starting to tingle, in a bad way, during a long ride' It might be time for a new saddle, like the Selle SMP Dynamic Saddle. It's all about reducing pressure in key sensitive zones, with a dramatically dropped nose to provide a flat base without exerting excess stress on your down-belows. There's also an extra-large central channel to relieve pressure on soft tissue areas, and the back of saddle is raised to help you achieve an efficient pedaling position without the pain of squashed sit bones. Selle built the Dynamic's shell from a composite of nylon and carbon, which gives you a firm pedaling platform that won't transmit excessive road vibrations into your rear. The cushion comes from the foam elastomer padding, which is firm but forgiving, and the exterior of the saddle is either leather or Lorica, depending on color. Both are durable and smooth, and there's no weight difference to speak of. Finally, the Dynamic clamps to your seatpost via rugged stainless steel rails, so you can ride as hard as you can with no slippage or bending.

Selle SMP Evolution Selle SMP Evolution
A saddle is more than just something to sit on. It's a key interface between you and your bike, a place where you can feel the road underneath you and exert control over your steed, so having a saddle that suits your physiology and riding style is important. Selle SMP's Evolution Saddle is designed for riders with average-to-narrow pelvises, as it has a relatively thin profile, only moderate padding, and Selle's trademark beak shape, which is designed to remove pressure on your you-know-whats. Strategically located foam elastomer padding and a pressure-relieving central channel provide support in some key areas and space in others, while the raised tail of the saddle provides a powerful platform for seated pedaling. Depending on color, the Evolution is wrapped in smooth leather or durable Lorica synthetic. The nylon and carbon composite shell provides a firm but not brutally stiff platform, and the steel rails are durable without adding excess weight. Even better, the Evolution is versatile enough for both road and trail riding, something not too many other saddles can claim.

Selle SMP Glider Saddle Selle SMP Glider Saddle
Upon initial inspection, the Selle SMP saddles may not look like they would be your first choice in comfort. But, looks are deceiving, and once you try it, the Glider saddle may just end up being your favorite saddle. They aren't the lightest saddle on the market, but they have been developed and produced after careful consideration of how the body actually interfaces with the bike, and if you are going to spend countless hours in the saddle, comfort trumps weight. The Glider, as with all SMP saddles, features a drop beak-shaped nose which relieves pressure from soft tissue regions. This design also means that when you ride, it's easier to roll forward and keep a flat back. The paddle (widest part of the saddle) has been slightly elevated so that you have something to push on when you climb or take off in the break away. The center of the 136mm wide saddle features a wide cut out which eliminates pressure in the perineal zone. It also keeps all your "bits" from getting crushed. That "highly technical" term is being used all inclusive of the male and female anatomy. The saddle is built upon traditional steel rails and a nylon/carbon fiber composite shell. You won't need to worry about your saddle being able to handle daily grind-fests without collapsing. Additionally, the padding is a foamed elastomer so that it holds its shape. The cover in black is leather and microfiber in the red and white styles. The Selle SMP Glider Saddle is 136mm x 266mm and comes in Red, White, or Black.

Selle SMP T2 Saddle Selle SMP T2 Saddle
The Selle SMP T2 saddle is designed to give triathletes with a medium to large pelvis size the support and comfort needed to navigate the bike leg at speed. Boasting longer rails than many other saddles, the T2 provides a huge range of fore/aft adjustability to dial in the perfect bike fit. A shortened nose section allows some extra leeway to push the boundaries on allowed positioning, and has what Selle SMP dubs an eagle beak shape for increased comfort. This downturn at the front of the saddle reduces pressure when you're riding on the rivet at the very tip of the saddle, trying to eke out every last watt in the final kilometers. This nose shape also makes for quick and easy bike parking in transition areas so you can spend less time worrying about bike placement and more time getting ready for the run. Selle SMP incorporates extra padding across the saddle to counter the minimal padding found in triathlon-specific chamois, and utilizes a center cutout to reduce pressure on sensitive tissues and increase comfort no matter the length of the ride. At the rear of the saddle a reflective Selle SMP tag provides an added dose of visibility and gives riders the option of also racking the bike from the rear of the saddle during transition.

Selle SMP Well Saddle Selle SMP Well Saddle
The Well Saddle combines a relatively wide frame with light padding and Selle SMP's signature drooping beak profile for a saddle that privileges pudendal comfort for riders with wide sit bones. The body is carbon-reinforced nylon, which adds a slight bump-absorbing give but doesn't become a trampoline that bounces you down the road during high cadence stretches. The synthetic cover isn't embroidered like some of Selle SMP's other models, but it does feature some light texturing to help keep your engine glued in place while you're grinding watts on a long climb. Where the body uses synthetics, the rails are thankfully just good old fashioned steel. Anyone who's either crushed carbon seatposts, handlebars, steerer tubes, or--yes--saddle rails will immediately recognize the value of steel at this part of the bike. Even on full carbon race machines, many of us still prefer to run steel here in order to avoid having to limp to the nearest LBS without a saddle because the carbon rails gave out after a crash or bump.

Shimano BR-RS805/RS505 Flat Mount (K02S) Resin Disc Brake Pad Shimano BR-RS805/RS505 Flat Mount (K02S) Resin Disc Brake Pad
It's ok for your legs to fade at the top of a long climb -- after all, you've got the descent to recover. When it's your brake pads fading between switchbacks at high speeds, though, it can result in an over-the-guardrail disaster. Replacing your road disc brake's pads with Shimano's BR-RS805/RS505 Flat Mount K02S Resin Disc Brake Pad helps reduce the risk of inconsistent, noisy brakes that gradually fade during heavy use. Since they're resin instead of metal, the pads also provide a much wider range of stopping power, so you can modulate effectively on those long descents but still throw the emergency brake when necessary.

Shimano Dura-Ace BR-9100 Brake Calipers Shimano Dura-Ace BR-9100 Brake Calipers
Smoother, more responsive levers do little if the components they work with don't improve alongside them, so we weren't surprised to see Shimano revisiting its dual-pivot rim brake design while quietly overhauling Dura-Ace for this year. The resulting Dura-Ace BR-9100 Brake Calipers make their entrance boasting a new steel bridge between each caliper arm pivot, which reduces flex for more consistent braking power when you're slamming on the levers. The bridge contributes to the calipers' enhanced modulation and more fluid, linear behavior across the braking curve, working in tandem with the levers to provide responsive stopping power whether you need to lightly temper your speed or pull up quickly to miss a crash. On the aesthetics side, Shimano subtly reduced the gap between each arm to create sleeker lines that align with the rest of the groupset's classy styling.

Shimano Dura-Ace BR-9110 Direct Mount Brake Calipers Shimano Dura-Ace BR-9110 Direct Mount Brake Calipers
A brake's primary job is to stop, so we typically consider any technology that makes it better at that an upgrade. Shimano's Dura-Ace BR-9110 Direct Mount Brake Calipers do just that, widening the window for modulation and increasing total stopping power. Those properties amount to a great big plus in our book of braking, and the fact that they also don't add any weight by doing so adds yet another plus. In fact, they actually lose weight compared to single-bolt calipers because the direct-mount design requires less material in the brake caliper and the frame, eliminating overall weight despite the addition of a second bolt. Tolerances are also improved all around: the caliper can sit closer to the frame and tire clearance is increased. A lower profile is especially useful in back as it lets the brake hide from the wind more effectively, but better tire clearance benefits both front and rear by accommodating the trend of growing tires. We're currently seeing 25mm as the standard, but we wouldn't be surprised if that bumped up to 28mm in the coming years.

Shimano Dura-Ace HB-9000 Rear 11-Speed Road Hub Shimano Dura-Ace HB-9000 Rear 11-Speed Road Hub
Despite the fact that it's one of the most crucial points of power transfer, the rear hub is often neglected in favor of a focus on bottom brackets and crankset bearings. The cup and cone bearings and labyrinth and contact seals of Shimano's Dura-Ace HB-9000 Rear 11-Speeed Road Hub make them even more reliable than the venerable Ultegra models, ensuring that you won't lose sleep over lost watts due to inefficient or compromised internals. The hubs feature Shimano's Digital Click Adjustment, which actually refers to your fingers, not some sort of high-tech electronic device operating in a virtual world. Once you've loosened the hubs with an Allen key, you can adjust hubs with your own fingers -- no cone wrench required. The freehub body and axle are titanium and aluminum, respectively, to keep the weight down. Finally, we noted earlier that the cup and cone bearings in these hubs are serviceable. That's definitely something you'll want to do on occasion in order to keep them running in top shape. After all, they're a lightweight, race-tuned set of bearings, which means they're capable of operating at levels that other bearings can only dream of.

Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 OT-SP41 Polymer-Coated Derailleur Cable Set Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 OT-SP41 Polymer-Coated Derailleur Cable Set
Though the Shimano's Dura-Ace R9100 groupset is a marked departure from its predecessor, the R9000, the accompanying Dura-Ace R9100 OT-SP41 Polymer-Coated Derailleur Cable Set is largely unchanged: The stainless cables are still polymer-coated and the housing is still lubed with silicone. No surprise here, since Shimano spent all of its R&D time on far more important things like shifting, redesigning the hood shape, and increasing crankset efficiency. And what a job the Japanese brand did. Some of us are inclined to call Dura-Ace R9100 the best mechanical shifting ever. That admittedly gets the Italian fetishists up in arms, but even they admit there's a clean efficiency to it that never gets old. Until the cables do. The bike lets you know when it's time to replace your cables by getting sloppy on the cassette. Listen to it, and tidy-up your shifting--the new Dura-Ace is definitely worth it.

Shimano Ultegra 6800 Groupset Shimano Ultegra 6800 Groupset
Ultegra has long been the workhorse group in Shimano's road lineup. But there is also beauty in strength, functionality, and fortitude. Shimano did not just rename the 6700 tier, however. Instead, just as the Dura-Ace groupset was completely redesigned for the 9000 series, so too has the Ultegra 6800 line been given a similar makeover so that it mimics the 11-speed functionality and aesthetics of its older sibling. Beginning with the most visible and noticed portion of the groupset, the ST-6800 levers feature a refined hood shape. They borrow the look and feel of Dura-Ace 9000, which, in turn, borrow their aesthetics from the venerable Di2 levers. The new design allows for improved grip and comfort, combined with crisper shifting. The hoods are molded from a dual-compound rubber composite. Below the hoods you'll find a sleek carbon lever with a more exaggerated outward curve than on the 6700. This makes for a more pronounced interaction with your hands from either the hoods or drops. Ten millimeters of reach adjustment for the levers accommodates a large variety of hand sizes and shapes. Although the redesign of the shifters is eye-catching, Shimano's "Rider-Tuned" philosophy is what gives the newly redesigned Ultegra such a solid rider experience. "Rider-Tuned" is the philosophy of providing added touches throughout the group, such as a shortened lever stroke. This shortened lever stroke increases the speed with which your shift moves up or down the chainrings and cassette. Moving through the drivetrain, the redesign of the front derailleur matches the new shorter stroke lever action of the shifters. To achieve this, Shimano had to revise the actuation ratio and pull yet another page from the Dura-Ace manual. The derailleur body was given a more heightened profile, with the leverage point at the top of the body. This creates a larger pull arm with more leverage, which strengthens the pull and eases the actuation, and thus lessens the shift stroke. In a simi...

Shimano Ultegra FD-R8000 Front Derailleur Shimano Ultegra FD-R8000 Front Derailleur
The trickle down of Dura-Ace 9100 technology to Ultegra R8000 11-speed drivetrains continues with the FD-R8000 front derailleur. Shimano redesigned it to have a lighter shift action, increased frame and tire clearance, and to work better with chain lines seen on road bikes with disc brakes and shorter chainstays. Everything we love about the Dura-Ace mechanical front derailleur has carried over to the new Ultegra version. The derailleurs longer arms, which house the cable anchor bolt and debuted on the Ultegra 6800 and Dura Ace 9000 front derailleurs, allow for a lighter shift as the anchor point gives the cable increased leverage. Word is this design was born when Shimano challenged its engineers to make a mechanical version of Ultegra and Dura-Ace that performed well enough and was still able to hold its own against its electronic siblings, particularly the front derailleurs. The design worked well, but the industry trend towards wider tires and disc brakes pushed the rear end spacing out to 135 or 142mm. Cable routing was more particular with the longer arm derailleurs. Shimano even sent a guide with each derailleur to gauge which way to run the cable to the anchor bolt, but the evolving rear hub spacing made this an untenable solution. To address this, Shimano engineered a new design that increases the clearance between the front derailleur and rear tire and increases shifting responsiveness with more flexible cable routing. The FD-R8000 also includes a cable tension setting adjustment at the derailleur for a more precise and ease setup. The more compact design doesn't come at a sacrifice of shift feel. Shimano claims that the new link construction matches the force curve of the hand more naturally to reduce effort at the end of shifting. The shift throw is reduced and the effort required to throw the chain to the big ring, even (or especially) while you're exhausted and trying to bridge up, is reduced. The FD-R8000 Front Derailleur is constructed from a ...

Shimano Ultegra PD-R8000 Pedals Shimano Ultegra PD-R8000 Pedals
The Shimano Ultegra PD-R8000 Pedals borrows heavily from the flagship Dura-Ace PD-9100 to deliver pro-level performance for the weight-conscious cycling enthusiast. The extra-wide, lightweight, carbon composite platform offers a huge target for clipping in, so rolling away from red lights and the start of a crit are hassle-free affairs. The large body also provides more efficient power transfer and distributes pressure better so long days in the saddle aren't met with hot spots on your feet. The low profile design increases road clearance for improved confidence when leaning through the turns and getting back on the gas. Durable, integrated, stainless steel body plates help reduce flex, wear to the pedal body, and provide a smooth surface for the cleats, promoting smooth float. The wide bearing placement offers stable and uniform load distribution so bearings last longer and roll smoother. The adjustable entry and release tension let you customize the settings for a casual easy in-and-out to a vice like grab needed for track racers or sprinters. The 10 mm body height from the axle center to cleat contact surface lowers the stack height 0. 7mm versus the 6800's and the weight has dropped to 248 grams. Pedals includes 6-degree float SPD-SL cleats for 3-bolt shoes and all the mounting hardware.

Shimano Ultegra RD-R8000 Rear Derailleur Shimano Ultegra RD-R8000 Rear Derailleur
Shimano has used Shadow technology for years on its mountain bike rear derailleurs. It allows for a lower profile and places the derailleur further inboard, keeping them out of harm's way and allowing a better chain path off the top jockey wheel in relation to the cassette. Shimano's R9100 group is the first time we saw this technology carried over to the road side, and we're happy to see its inclusion on the Ultegra RD-R8000 rear derailleur. The RD-8000 is the crowning jewel on the new Ultegra group, and if you are building up or updating a bike, you really can't do wrong with this group. The additional range afforded by the longer cage opens up the Ultegra group to adventure bikes and brings the precision, durability, and value to the masses. Additionally, if you just want to add a wider range to your Dura-Ace steed, adding the long cage Ultegra derailleur and cassette is all you need to spin perfect circles up long mountain passes. The shifting is impeccable, the durability is immaculate and the performance gap to Dura-Ace is about a tire width's margin in a bunch sprint. The change to an aluminum cage and some other minor hardware details are all that separate the Ultegra R8000 version from the Dura-Ace 9100 unit. Two cage lengths are available with cassette ranges from 11-30t (short) and 11-34t (long). Given a few design tweaks, the R8000 rear derailleur works best when paired with R8000 or R9100 levers, and it's a perfect addition to a full Ultegra bike or those running Dura Ace who want to run a bigger cassette. Another advantage of the Shadow design is the more linear path of the derailleur when shifting, which allowed the engineers at Shimano to create a shifter with a shorter throw resulting in more precise and quicker shifts--even with the larger cassette ranges we're beginning ride on everything from tarmac to gravel. We are happy to see Shimano continuing with a barrel adjuster at the derailleur. Road shifters don't have adjusters at the levers lik...

SRAM Force 22 Groupset SRAM Force 22 Groupset
When SRAM's Red groupset was released in a 22-speed version, it was only a matter of time before that technology started to trickle down to the more cost conscious offerings. And we're happy to report that the SRAM Force 22 Groupset has the same crisp shifting and sublime ergonomics that make Red so drool-worthy, without the top-of-the-line price tag. The big story here is SRAM's "True 22" drivetrain system, which was based around the idea that one should be able to use every gear in their drivetrain. The front derailleur is a key component in achieving this, as it's been graced with Yaw technology, which allows it to pivot as it shifts, which moves the cage out of the chain's path when the drivetrain is cross chained. The rear derailleur has a redesigned B-knuckle, which adds clearance for 28t cassettes. As ever, both are controlled by SRAM's double tap shifting, which has a light shifting feel and precise gear changes. The crankset retains a similar form to the 10-speed version, but the chainrings have been enhanced for delay-free gear changes, even under power. It's a similar story when considering the cassette. Beyond adding another gear, the tooth profiles and gear spread have been carefully considered for lightning-fast shifts. The carbon fiber crank arms are highly efficient, and turn a super-stiff 24mm aluminum spindle. The brakes remain unchanged, and still produce gobs of clamping force thanks to the dual-pivot design. This kit includes an English threaded bottom bracket. The SRAM Force 22 Groupset is available in three crank lengths, from 170mm, to 175mm, with either a compact 50/34, or standard 53/39 chainring configuration, and either an 11-25, or 11-28 cassette.

SRAM Force22 Shift/Hydraulic Rim Brake SRAM Force22 Shift/Hydraulic Rim Brake
If you're longing for the superb stopping power of SRAM's Red hydraulic systems, but finding it hard to scrape together the dough, the SRAM Force 22 Hydraulic Road Rim Brakes are virtually identical but for the use of stainless steel hardware bits instead of the titanium used on Red. Otherwise, all the same performance awaits via the carbon levers, redesigned lever housings, and all the other details that make the new SRAM road hydraulic brakes so amazing. To reboot its original road and cyclocross hydraulic braking systems -- which were already ahead of their time -- SRAM pulled apart every molecule of their anatomy to find room for improvements. The lever body, housing the reservoir and master cylinder, was reconfigured for more efficient internal spacing while at the same time boosting strength and stiffness, resulting in solid, consistent performance, regardless of braking or weather conditions. The master cylinder piston itself was also completely revamped, receiving an all-new bore design and new seals, after being subjected to thousands upon thousands of testing hours in every temperature and performance setting imaginable. The goal was absolute reliability, and the new system delivers. SRAM was far from finished with updates, however. The new higher-capacity fluid bladder -- the part of the system designed to maintain braking feel and consistency in compensation for pad wear -- was also redesigned to improve fluid flow, so your brakes feel as great brand new as they do after a season of racing. At the rim, where the action happens, the smooth action of the powerful caliper translates into incredible confidence and control, allowing you to push harder and let the reins fly looser than they ever have. Opening wide enough to accommodate even the widest rims on the market (such as Zipp's Firecrest rims), the brakes are easily installed with SRAM's Connectamajig, allowing simple, clean hose connection without the hassle you would think would be necessary. SRAM Red 22 Hydraulic Rim Brake/Shifter SRAM Red 22 Hydraulic Rim Brake/Shifter
In the quest for the ultimate road rim brake, SRAM pioneered the hydraulic rim brake. Even SRAM will admit, however, that the first design left a bit to be desired in the areas of performance and reliability. SRAM knew it was onto something, though, so it went back to the design room and started from scratch. The result is the Red 22 Hydraulic Brake, and it's a peach. This isn't an upgrade of the original SRAM hydraulic road brake--it's a completely new design. The new lever body, which houses the reservoir and master cylinder, features more efficient internal spacing than the original, while at the same time it boosts strength and stiffness for more consistent performance and more powerful braking. The master cylinder piston was also completely redesigned with an all-new bore design and new seals, and the brake was given a higher-capacity fluid bladder. The goals were absolute reliability and precise modulation, and after thousands and thousands of hours of testing, the new system delivers on that goal.

SRAM Red Aero Link Brake Caliper Set SRAM Red Aero Link Brake Caliper Set
The SRAM Red Aero Link Brake Caliper Set positions the Red braking experience apart from the herd with reduced weight and higher braking power. As the name implies, it also has a sleek front profile that boast increased aerodynamics over its Red predecessors and current cousins in the Force and Rival families. The Red calipers utilize SRAM's patented AeroLink arm, hinging on a tiny pivot joint that hides behind the svelte calipers and multiplies braking power and modulation without increasing required lever squeeze force. This unique innovation allowed SRAM to significantly reduce the caliper's frontal area, evident in the simplified cable routing and single arm in comparison to the former dual-arm triangular structure still found in the Force and Rival calipers. In addition to the reduction in front surface area, SRAM attended to every detail of the caliper to ensure maximum aerodynamic efficiency. From the spring adjusters to the cable clamp to the caliper's overall face, no detail was overlooked in its potential to reduce drag. This attention to detail is apparent in tiny details such as SRAM's redesign of the oft-overlooked shaping of each caliper's two-position barrel adjuster, which now takes on a shark fin profile to literally slice through the wind. SRAM accounts for in-ride brake adjustability with an easy to access four-position indexed release lever that makes quick positioning changes a breeze but sits stealthily out of the wind when fully locked. The SRAM Red Aero Link Brake Caliper Set is compatible with SRAM road shift-brake levers and will accommodate tires up to 28mm in width. Each brakeset includes SRAM's aero pad retainers and ships with SwissStop Flash Pro pads.

SRAM Road Disc Organic Brake Pad SRAM Road Disc Organic Brake Pad
The benefits of SRAM's Organic Road Disc Brake Pads include gains in the same areas that initially attracted us to disc brakes: engagement immediately translates to stopping power and there's virtually no breaking-in period. They also address concerns about overheating brakes by redirect heat into the rotor, not the caliper, which keeps the hydraulic oil cool and maintains consistency during long periods of continual braking. If you're coming to disc brakes from carbon rim brakes, then you'll be familiar with these pads' tendency to wear more quickly than sintered pads ' they are, after all, made from organic materials bonded with resin for a build that's similar to carbon-specific rim brake pads. Braking power also benefits from an occasional sanding to remove the glaze-like finish that builds up over time, but the extra attention to detail means more responsive braking for those moments when the alternative is a taco'd fork. Finally, we should note that some of SRAM's mountain bike calipers--the Level Ultimate and Level TM models--also use these pads, so classifying them as road-only is a bit limiting. But c'est la vie in an industry of ever changing standards.

Vittoria Corsa Speed G Plus Tire - Tubeless Vittoria Corsa Speed G Plus Tire - Tubeless
With a lightweight, tubeless-ready, open tubular casing, the Vittoria Corsa Speed G Plus Tubeless Tire is billed as the world's fastest tubeless tire and features revolutionary graphene technology for an unprecedented mix of low rolling resistance, durability, and all-weather grip. The Corsa Speed G Plus is the culmination of a collaboration between Vittoria and an external company, Directa Plus, to adapt a carbon compound known as grapheme for use in bike tires. The resulting compound is dubbed G plus, and Vittoria claims that its inclusion significantly reduces rolling resistance while increasing the durability Vittoria has long been known for. The inclusion of graphene is credited with enhancing traction, increasing durability, and reducing rolling resistance, and its impressive strength-to-weight ratio keeps the tire well-suited for racing by reducing rotational mass. According to Vittoria, the combination of G Plus and Isogrip compounds creates a tire surfacing that also rolls fast in both dry and wet conditions for confident cornering and handling no matter what nature comes up with when you're battling it out on rolling country roads. Vittoria claims that the elasticity and carbon construction of graphene creates an incredibly durable tire, but for even more reassurance it utilizes a corespun casing to increase the tire's lifespan. With multiple cotton fibers twisted together to create one yarn, core spun casings are significantly more supple than typical casings without adding unnecessary weight to the tire.

Vittoria Latex Road Tube Vittoria Latex Road Tube
You probably don't think about the tubes you put inside your tires, but with Vittoria's Latex Road Tubes, you'll have a slight advantage when it comes to speed. In testing, latex tubes are smooth enough to reduce rolling resistance by a few watts. And while a few watts may not seem like much, when you consider that switching to latex saves nearly 75g, the seemingly innocuous tube starts to make a dent in your results. The lighter tubes mean quicker accelerations and the lower rolling resistance means you'll stay at speed for longer. In addition to being faster, latex tubes are also more elastic to increase puncture resistance. Please note that most major wheel, tire, and tube manufacturers recommend against using latex tubes with carbon clinchers. Carbon brake surfaces tend to heat-up more than alloy, which can cause latex tubes to burst. Always use butyl tubes with carbon clincher rims.

Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX
Unfortunately for those of us who revel in such esoteric things, tubular tires are rapidly going the way of the dodo, at least as far as non-professional use is concerned. Essentially, if you don't have someone gluing your tires for you, and swapping wheels whenever you flat, it's probably not worth running tubs. That hurts to write, but it's true. And in place of those oh-so-smooth tubulars sit tires like the Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX, which is a tubular in everything but installation. "Open tubular" is the name that tire companies give to tires that are constructed using a tubular casing, but then attached to a clincher bead, which retains most of the riding characteristics of a tubular, with all the convenience of a clincher. It really is having your cake and eating it too.

Vredestein Comp Race Tire - Clincher Vredestein Comp Race Tire - Clincher
Rather than taking the time to swap out your tires every time there's a hint of rain or a rough stretch of road on your chosen route, try wrapping your rims in the Vredestein Comp Race Tire before your next several rides or races. Versatile and hardy, the Comp Race was designed to free you from having to tailor your ride around your tire's capabilities, and it's built with a triple compound construction to keep it rolling confidently through everything from a slick, rain-drenched race course to the chip-sealed shoulders on your favorite back roads. Vredestein uses a firmer rubber along the center of the tire to keep enterprising goatheads and broken glass from stealing the air from your tubes and pairs it with softer rubber on the shoulders to give the tires a supple, controlled feel on corners. While you're rolling over ruts and grooves in the roads, the Comp Race's 120 TPI casing will allow you to coast smoothly rather than bounce over inconsistencies, preventing you from losing hard-earned speed. Finally, a woven nylon layer beneath the center tread provides an additional line of defense against road debris, leaving the less-vulnerable sidewalls free to still provide their commendable grip on corners.

Vredestein Freccia Pro Tubular Tricomp Vredestein Freccia Pro Tubular Tricomp
Everybody knows that tubular tires are the business when it comes to ride quality, but since they're decidedly more work than clinchers, you need a reliable set if you're logging training miles on them. So for everyone who rides tubulars well beyond race day, the Vredestein Freccia Pro Tubular Tricomp tire is right up your alley. It uses triple compound rubber, which is specially formulated for wet weather grip, and a reinforced casing that fights punctures, while preserving the buttery smooth ride you're after.Vredestein employs its triple compound rubber placement in the Freccia Tricomp. In case you're wondering what triple compound means, essentially, the center line of the tire is built from a harder rubber compound than the shoulders. And that means that the Freccias are fast rolling and hard wearing. However, the compound employed for the center line wouldn't provide the aggressive cornering grip that's needed from an all-weather training tire, so a softer compound is used in the shoulders to boost cornering grip, and accordingly, cornering confidence. The 220 TPI tubular casing has a relatively high thread count, which helps these tires to roll fast over varying road surfaces. Basically, a higher thread count tire has a more supple casing, so the tire is able to deform with less resistance. The benefit is that instead of bouncing, the tire is able to roll through irregularities in the road surface, so you'll go faster with less energy spent. Adding to the training utility of this tire is a polyamide woven layer underneath the tread, which protects against punctures from the road debris that you'll no doubt encounter. But unlike many other puncture-resistant tires, this layer does not extend into the sidewalls. That allows the sidewall of the tire to deform naturally, which means that you'll get puncture resistance while still enjoying the smooth ride provided by the supple casing. The Vredestein Freccia Pro Tubular Tricomp tire is available in the size ...

Zipp SL Speed Seatpost Zipp SL Speed Seatpost
The Zipp SL Speed Seatpost has taken Zipp engineering a step further, and the result is a seatpost that is 35 grams lighter than the Service Course, with the same durability. The SL Speed features the same adjustable, low-profile clamp system as is popular on the Service Course. It is a two-bolt system that provides adjustment both fore and aft and in the tilt of your saddle. You'll also notice that the lower portion of the clamp is beefier than other seatposts on the market. This provides extra support for those riders who prefer a more rearward position. Meanwhile, the post itself is carbon. The main difference, which is a big one, is that the SL Speed uses carbon fiber for the construction of the post. Not just a cosmetic change, the carbon keeps the weight of the post under 190 grams and also gives you a ride that dampens road vibration and chatter. While many carbon posts feature a low maximum rider weight, the maximum weight for the SL Speed is 300lbs. The saddle sits on carbon and titanium rails for performance longevity and additional vibration dampening.

Zipp Vuka Extensions Zipp Vuka Extensions
Zipp's Vuka Extensions are an integral part of the Zipp aerodynamic bar system, as they were designed to give you the perfect balance of comfort, control, and efficient aerodynamics during your race against the clock. Zipp engineered four styles of the Vuka Extensions, giving you an array of options to completely dial in a custom, aerodynamic fit. The Straight extension puts you in a low, flat-out aerodynamic position, while the Ski-Tip places you in a position built for both speed and long-distance comfort. The new Vuka Race shape was designed after compiling data and feedback from thousands of fit sessions with professional cyclists and triathletes around the world. This 'Race Bend' places the wrists at a natural angle in order to help you comfortably remain in your tucked position. The last option is called the Race Vuka Shift, which features both the innovative race bend and places the shifter directly onto the extension. This shape keeps the shifters close to your hands, meaning that you stay down in your aerodynamic tuck, even when making those crucial shifts. This option is only compatible with SRAM 900 TT, 500 TT, R2C Aero Shifter, and Zipp R2C shifters. Zipp's carbon Vuka Extensions come with an industry-standard 22. 2 mm diameter and are compatible with the new Vuka Alumina Clip, but not the VukaClip or Vukero. All extension styles have a length of 360 mm and utilize internal cable routing. The carbon Race, Straight, and Ski-Tip bends are compatible with all shifting systems.
