Diadora Phantom II Cycling Shoes - Women's Diadora Phantom II Cycling Shoes - Women's
We love to see manufacturers taking good technology from upper-end models and applying it to their more accessibly-priced offerings, which is exactly what Diadora does with its Phantom II Cycling Shoes. The brand takes fit inspiration from its pricier shoes and creates a lightweight, versatile option worthy of new cyclists and seasoned riders alike. The Phantom II's are built on Diadora's women's specific last, which accommodates the more dramatic heel taper and other subtle differences that separate women's and men's feet. Morpho A. M. uppers wrap around the foot to provide a close, contoured fit using a mix of materials that are resistant to stretching and wear over time. Air Mesh promotes ventilation, while Suprell-Tech, a light and tough polymer, provides structured durability. The included Sport Road composite-reinforced soles are stiff enough for efficient, responsive power transfer when pedaling and durable enough for the everyday abuse of a cyclist who races, trains, and commutes. Two hook-and-loop straps allow for quick and easy fit adjustments in or out of the saddle.

Diadora Trivex Plus II Shoes - Women's Diadora Trivex Plus II Shoes - Women's
Regular training rides and long days in the saddle call for shoes that will keep your feet from feeling the miles while helping all of the power from your legs reach the pedals. Diadora's hardworking Trivex Plus II Shoes aptly fit this description, and with trickle-down technology from their pricier, top-tier counterparts, they'll leave you money left in your budget for other upgrades. Diadora uses its lightweight Suprell-Mesh to construct the synthetic uppers, adding ample mesh paneling and perforations to ensure air reaches your toes as you descend after long, hot climbs. These uppers are shaped around Diadora's women's-specific last, which teams with a molded heel cup and a more tapered shape to hold narrower heels in place throughout the pedal stroke. While Trivex Plus II's more palatable price means the absence of a Boa dial, the ratcheting buckle paired with two hook-and-loop straps allow for a wide range of fit adjustments before a ride and from the saddle to ward off painful pressure points. To provide you with responsive power transfer, Diadora includes its composite-reinforced Performance Road outsole. It's not as unyielding as full carbon would be, but with it, your feet will enjoy a stable, solid platform through which to transfer power and turn the pedals while you ride.

Diadora X Trivex Plus II Shoe - Women's Diadora X Trivex Plus II Shoe - Women's
When you get ready to go on a trail ride, you aren't as concerned with having the fastest, most race-ready shoe available, you just want something that's comfortable and will be consistently functional so you can focus on ripping berms and dicing new lines rather than squished toes. Diadora's X Trivex Plus II Women's Shoe fits this description aptly. Sharing a name with its women's road shoe, Diadora's X Trivex Plus II Shoe also shares an affordable price tag with its road sibling, as well as the sleek redesign that much of Diadora's line underwent for 2016. The shoe's synthetic Suprell-Air Mesh upper is supplemented with airy mesh panels and comes complete with the secure, wrap-like fit of Diadora's Morpho Cage upper, ensuring your toes can breathe out on the trails without a sloppy fit. The X Trivex Plus II is built on Diadora's Woman Last, which is constructed to accommodate the generally more dramatic taper into the heel that women's feet often have when compared to men's. The fit is further dialed with Inside Ergonomic Heel Support to help prevent frustrating slippage when you're pushing towards the crux of a tough climb. Along the top of the shoe, two hook-and-loop straps work with a ratcheting buckle to allow you to achieve a secure fit that ensures reliable power transfer without subjecting your feet to pressure points or hot spots. Further contributing to power transfer, the composite-reinforced sole that covers the bottom of the shoe comes prepared to dutifully deliver your hard-earned watts to the pedals. The sole, covered with grippy rubber lugs for traction on treacherous stretches of trail, earns a mountain-appropriate stiffness rating of 6 out of 12 on Diadora's overall stiffness scale.

Five Ten Freerider Shoe - Women's Five Ten Freerider Shoe - Women's
The Five Ten Women's Freerider Shoes add subtle styling to technological features made to shred the gnarliest of trails. In a world of neon trimmings and flashy personalities, these shoes are a contrast of muted colors that let your riding skills take center stage. Five Ten's non-marking Stealth Phantom rubber was developed for rock climbing shoes. As such, it has excellent grip, which makes it super easy to keep your feet on the pedals. Just think, no shinburger for dinner... again. Five Ten Stealth Rubber soles will outlast the gum rubber sole on a conventional skate shoe every time and stick better to your pedals. The Women's Freerider Shoes have all the style that you want and the bomber sole that you need to land big tricks without blowing your feet. Five Ten Hellcat Shoe - Women's Five Ten Hellcat Shoe - Women's
If the thought of having to choose clipless over flats forever leaves you waffling with indecision, don't force yourself to pick one or the other. Grab the Five Ten Hellcat Shoe and start the season with your tried-and-true flat pedals, and its sticky Stealth C4 Dotty rubber will hold on dependably from tacky brown pow to rough and brake-rutted terrain. A beloved Five Ten favorite for years, the Hellcat will also clip in (and out) of clipless pedals with ease as you embrace a mid-summer burst of confidence and swap your beloved flats for two-bolt clipless pedals for a spell. Along the length of the shoe, a dual-density TPU shaft provides healthy doses of both stiffness and flex while you're riding, delivering power to the pedals on a climb, supporting you on a descent, but also yielding enough to let you nimbly step your way through hike-a-bike sections next to stomach-dropping cliffs or car-sized boulders with ease.

Five Ten Kestrel Lace-Up Shoe - Women's Five Ten Kestrel Lace-Up Shoe - Women's
Like your favorite easy-going, life-loving sister and her equally laid back hubby, the dirt-loving designers over at Five Ten decided their original Kestrel shoe was so much fun that they couldn't stop at just one. As a result, you now have nine nieces and nephews, and plenty of options to choose from when you're upgrading your biking shoes for the season. Just like your sister said she'd do better the second or third time around, Kestrel made a few changes and tweaks along the way that led to the creation of the Kestrel Lace-Up Women's Shoe. Designed for hard-charging all-mountain/enduro gals, the Kestrel Lace-Up aims to provide a more supportive, contoured fit around your foot than its older sibling with its lace-up closure, hook-and-loop strap, and non-slip heel cup. Kestrel also chose a nylon-reinforced EVA midsole to achieve more flex along the bottom of the shoe, and it designed the Stealth C4 rubber outsole with a wide cleat interface to make it easy to snap in and out of the pedals quickly on technical terrain. The Kestrel Lace-Up's uppers are PU-coated synthetic, so they won't crack or rip at the first spill you take on a loose, scree-filled section of trail.

Giro Empire ACC Shoes - Women's Giro Empire ACC Shoes - Women's
Giro went back to the past when it decided to design a lace-up cycling shoe a few years ago for a certain Olympic cyclist in the 2012 London Games, and though it might've seemed like more of a fashion statement at the time, the shoe proved that lace-ups still deserve a place in cycling today. After the shoe has shown that it's here to stay, Giro chose to let women in on the fun at last with the Empire ACC Women's Shoes. If you're like us, you may already have been wearing the Empire ACC but settling for men's sizes. There's also a chance you may have yet to discover the Empire ACC's high-end features and functionality. Either way, the shoe's availability in a women's fit is cause for celebration. Giro starts by constructing the shoes' uppers with a single piece of Evofiber microfiber to provide a lightweight, contoured fit across the top of the foot. Evofiber is a highly breathable fabric, and it features added perforations to further promote ventilation and facilitate quick moisture transfer away from your skin. Rather than add extra overlays and pieces of material, Giro keeps the profile of the Empire ACC sleek and uniform, and the flexibility of the microfiber combined with the full lacing system allows for a customizable, second-skin fit. An Easton EC90 ACC carbon outsole provides an extremely stiff, light pedaling platform, and its low stack height brings your cleats close to the pedals to eliminate the loss of power that thicker cleat plates suffer, resulting in efficient, responsive power transfer. Inside the shoe, Giro adds its Super Natural Fit System, which allows for adjustable arch support within the shoe depending on the shape of your arch to reduce fatigue while pedaling. The insole itself is made with X-Static fiber to ward off odors, while the outsoles have replaceable heel pads to keep the shoes going for miles.

Giro Empire W VR90 Shoe - Women's Giro Empire W VR90 Shoe - Women's
You may spend the majority of your ride time on singletrack, but unlike a lot of your fellow dirt hounds, you're riding for time on both the up and the down. Whether the speed and technique required on the 'cross circuit keeps you training every night after work, or you prefer the speed of XC, trust the Giro Women's Empire W VR90 Shoe to deliver power to the pedals times and time again. The Empire's elegant silhouette has been beyond reproach, in our minds, since Giro first introduced it, and the VR90 continues the legacy of clean lines and impeccable fit, adapted to the rigors of trail life. Giro crafts each VR90 with an entirely one-piece Teijin microfiber upper, eliminating stitching, seaming, and overlays to leave you with lightweight support around the rolling contours of your feet. More breathable and weather-resistant than leather, synthetic Teijin microfiber molds around your feet much like its natural cousin. Use the lace-up design to make infinite adjustments in width and tightness along the length of your toes and instep to achieve a secure fit without the burden of hot spots distracting you from flyovers and technical rock gardens. When you're throwing all of your energy into the pedals to keep speed heading into a grueling climb, count on the Easton EC90 carbon fiber outsole to consistently deliver your watts to the pedals each time you turn them. The soles accommodate spikes for added traction on slick, muddy race days, and Giro subtly adds Vibram rubber lugs to the bottoms to make sure you can run your bike through sand pits as confidently as you ride it. Underneath your arch, Giro's Super Natural Fit kit gives you the option to swap out arch support until you find what's right for you, ensuring your foot's mechanics don't hinder your ride from inside your shoe.

Giro Factress Techlace Shoe - Women's Giro Factress Techlace Shoe - Women's
Frequent visitors to Competitive Cyclist will know that we tend to privilege the rule of three in our copy descriptions. It's just an effective model of communication. Giro takes a similar approach with its Factress Techlace Women's Shoes, which combine three of the most common fastening systems--Boa's IP1 dial, laces, and hook-and-loop straps--in a triumvirate of cycling shoe satisfaction. The result blends the minimalist profile and customizable fit of the lace-up Empire with the user-friendly convenience of the original Factress. The Factress Techlace is the first Giro shoe to feature a Boa dial, and Giro uses it to anchor the shoe at the top, which is where the IP1's single millimeter adjustment will come the most in handy. The rest of the shoe is secured by hook-and-loop straps that are in turn anchored by laces. Fit-wise, they feel similar to the original Factress once the straps are tightened and the dial is dialed, but replacing the full straps with laces involves a reduction in material and a corresponding loss of weight. Giro credits the Factress Techlace with a tidy 40g weight loss per shoe when compared to the plain ol' Factress. There will undoubtedly be a chorus of retro-grouches lamenting the combination as unnecessary ostentation, but we heard the same critique of laces when the Empire fist launched, and now it's impossible to imagine a group ride or race without at least one pair in the bunch. The Easton EC90SLX2 sole is an upgrade over the Factress' ACC model, and its use of lighter carbon fiber also contributes to the weight loss. Despite shedding grams, the sole remains stiffly efficient and features a full complement of steel hardware for mounting cleats and replacing the heel pad. As with all of Giro's race shoes, stack height is kept to a minimum in order to eliminate as many barriers between your watts and the pedals as possible. The sole is mated to a single-piece upper made of the same Teijin Evofiber SL Giro uses for its other top-tie...

Giro Raes Techlace Shoe - Women's Giro Raes Techlace Shoe - Women's
When it comes to choosing road kit, we admit that we like to look good. With shoes, this often means, sleek and understated as the industry moves further and further away from the overwrought bobbles we all rode in the '90s and '00s. Giro has been a leading proponent of the cycling industry's nascent minimalism, and the Raes Techlace Women's Shoe is the latest model to embody the brand's artful marriage of understated form and over-achieving function. Each individual shoe is a paltry 44 claimed grams heavier than its more expensive Factress Techlace counterpart, and since it has a carbon sole, that makes it ideal for the aspirational cyclist who values weekend centuries as much as putting in a good showing at the Tuesday night crit series. The weight gain likely comes in the sole--which is built from Easton's EC70 carbon fiber instead of the Factress Techlace's EC90 SLX--or the uppers, which are a multi-piece construction instead of the Factress' sleeker, single-piece design. Regardless of the added grams, the EC70 sole still provides that crisp, lively spring we expect from carbon soles, and the upper secures the foot like a second skin. The fit owes its comfort to the Raes' peculiar mash-up of closure technologies: the shoe features everything from the standard hook-and-loop to laces and a Boa L6 dial. The design may seem unnecessarily complicated, but anyone who has experience the indescribably painful hotspots caused by hammering for 60 miles in ill-fitting shoes will confirm that, when it comes to fit, the more engineered, the better.

Giro Solara II Shoes - Women's Giro Solara II Shoes - Women's
Pro-level shoes aren't always practical, especially if you take part in multiple disciplines or are just getting into cycling. Or maybe, like many of us, you're more interested in kit that just works rather than the Latest & GreatestTM. Giro understands this, so it took features from its high-end models and adapted them to a shoe that won't take up your entire budget for the season just because some pro with a funny haircut and lively social media account wears it, too. Giro constructs the shoes with a smooth, vented microfiber upper for a contoured fit around your foot. The Solara II features welded and bonded uppers that limit the number of traditionally sewn seams to reduce the likelihood of hot spots and blisters. While some entry-level cycling shoes receive little to no midsole treatment, Giro adds a molded EVA footbed to the Solara IIs to provide efficiency-improving arch support throughout your pedal stroke. The footbed is treated with an Aegis antimicrobial coating to keep it smelling fresh, while a DuPont Zytel nylon outsole provides reliable power transfer from your legs to the pedals. When you're getting ready to ride, take advantage of the option to fine-tune the fit of the shoes at three points across the top of your foot to avoid numbness and hot spots. Giro includes two hook-and-loop straps across the instep and a micro-adjustable N-1 ratcheting buckle at the top.

Giro Terradura Mountain Shoes - Women's Giro Terradura Mountain Shoes - Women's
The Giro Terradura Women's Mountain Shoes strike the perfect balance between super stiff-soled shoes that transfer all the power but aren't great for walking and soft-soled shoes that walk well but feel squishy on the pedals. Giro uses a strong and durable nylon shank that's stiff enough to get down the trail fast and just flexible enough to keep your heels in your shoes when hiking your bike up a steep incline. A Vibram lugged outsole also grips rocks and other obstacles that you come across on the trails better than shoes that come outfitted with plastic lugs. Even with all that attention to the outsole, Giro didn't ignore fit. The Terradura's upper is designed to fit a narrower foot, with a ratcheting buckle and two hook-and-look closures for a comfy and secure fit. Perforations in the microfiber upper let feet breathe, and toe box reinforcement provides durable impact protection.

Louis Garneau Carbon LS-100 II Shoes - Women's Louis Garneau Carbon LS-100 II Shoes - Women's
If you're looking for race-worthy energy in a shoe to replace your worn entry-level kicks, but are sponsoring yourself on the bike for the foreseeable future, upgrade to the Louis Garneau Carbon LS-100 II. With a palatable price point and a construction that represents a significant step up from the starter shoes you've been using, the Carbon LS-100 won't drain your bank account in exchange for its responsive nature and contoured fit. Less expensive starter shoes tend to offer fewer options for customization, providing riders with a generous, but not necessarily precise, fit. All of that changes with an upgrade to a shoe like the Carbon LS-100. Its upper mid-range distinction earns you a Boa dial and hook-and-loop strap across the supple synthetic leather uppers. This combination allows you to adjust for different needs across your instep and toes, ensuring both feel secure, but without the dreaded pins-and-needles sensation that imprecise buckles and straps often lead to. As you turn the pedals heading into a notoriously harsh local climb, the Carbon LS-100 will jump eagerly to the task of transferring precious watts into the pedals, matching your intensity with a rigid carbon composite platform.

Louis Garneau Cristal Shoe - Women's Louis Garneau Cristal Shoe - Women's
If you're looking for a road shoe that isn't prohibitively expensive but still looks good, we'd recommend Louis Garneau's Cristal Shoes. We were impressed with the aesthetics of this shoe right away. It doesn't scream "budget option," and with its list of specs, it clearly isn't. Whether you're new to road riding or are just realizing your old shoes have seen too many miles, the Cristal shoes offer an impressive mix of features and affordability. Garneau mixes a sturdy synthetic leather upper with mesh panels for venting, ensuring the Cristals hold their shape while remaining breathable during your rides. The Canadian manufacturer also eliminated seaming throughout the material for a contoured fit that reduces hot spots and pressure points. The hook-and-loop straps along the forefoot are offset to help you achieve more of a wrap-like, customizable fit, and a ratcheting buckle strap allows you to fine tune the tightness of the shoes across the top of your foot. On the inside of the shoes, Louis Garneau includes its Cool Stuff insoles, which have improved arch support and better ventilation than in previous versions. They work with reinforced heel cups to keep the shoes securely on your feet during hard climbs. Garneau's Ergo Air II nylon outsole is plenty stiff for recreational cycling, and it's vented for added breathability to help you stay comfortable on hot days and long rides. As a final touch, reflective accents on each heel help make sure you stay seen on days when your rides take you along shady, tree-lined roads or keep you out after the sun has gone down.

Louis Garneau Mica Shoes - Women's Louis Garneau Mica Shoes - Women's
Louis Garneau created the women's Mica Mountain Bike Shoes as a dependable option for riders who don't want to sacrifice solid pedaling for affordability. They occupy a middle position between Garneau's pricier pro-level models and its entry-level shoes, with the comfort and support you'll want for long days of roosting berms and dizzying descents. One of our favorite features of the Mica is its entirely seamless upper, a trickle-down feature from higher end models that eliminates bulky stitched seaming in favor of smooth, bonded seams that are far less prone to causing irritation. The synthetic leather is paired with mesh paneling to keep air moving through the shoes, resulting in a breathable fit that won't weigh you down on the trails. When you're putting your shoes on before a ride, two hook-and-loop straps and a ratcheting buckle allow for quick, easy fit adjustments. The straps are also arranged asymmetrically to provide a more wrapped fit around your foot -- specifically at the slippage-prone heel area, which also receives some targeted contouring to add security from the inside out. Garneau includes its nylon Ergo Grip 2 outsole to transfer power from your legs to the pedals, and a host of lugs help to ensure you can reliably navigate especially technical sections of trail off the bike.

Louis Garneau Opal Cycling Shoe - Women's Louis Garneau Opal Cycling Shoe - Women's
The recent renaissance of lace-up cycling shoes means that commuters and spin class cyclists can now go undercover when they're off the bike with shoes like Louis Garneau's Opal Women's Cycling Shoes. The Opal's low-key style and functional tread mean it's as at home on foot as in the saddle, and the Multi Lite outsole has a bit of engineered flex to accommodate walking. The sole's nylon and fiberglass construction is still plenty stiff for mashing through intervals, though, and the two-bolt mountain-style cleat mounts keep you connected to the pedals. The last features a roomier fit than LG's race shoes, but it's still equipped with the HRS-80 heel retention system in order to ensure that comfort doesn't come at the expense of watts lost due to a sloppy fit.

Louis Garneau Ruby Shoes - Women's Louis Garneau Ruby Shoes - Women's
Sometimes in cycling kit, simplicity is key, and there are hardly any better examples of this axiom than the women's Ruby Shoes. With the Ruby, Louis Garneau has pretty much checked off the wish list for riders who want shoes that put function and comfort over the pomp of shoes made for the amateur professional. A single Boa L4 buckle secures the shoe across the midfoot, and a separate hook-and-loop strap helps to avoid hotspots with a more generous fit at the metatarsals. The Ergo Air nylon outsole helps avoid overheating and cold shots by corresponding with the interchangeable Cool Stuff and Hot Stuff insoles.

Louis Garneau Sapphire Mountain Bike Shoe - Women's Louis Garneau Sapphire Mountain Bike Shoe - Women's
While we wouldn't recommend them for competitive endurance racers, the Louis Garneau women's Sapphire Shoes are more than capable of shuttling recreational mountain bikers and roadies looking to dip their toes into the trail or CX scene for some off-season cross training. The synthetic upper, mesh ventilation, and hook-and-loop straps are general across LG's road and mountain lines, but the lugged, Ergo Grip II outsole with removable studs is native only to the latter. The shoes are finished with an HRS-80 heel cup design, which keeps the foot anchored while cleaning rocky pitches.

Mavic Crossride SL Elite Cycling Shoes - Women's Mavic Crossride SL Elite Cycling Shoes - Women's
Cross-country shoes have a tough niche to fill. They echo the sentiments of the discipline as a whole by placing higher value on speed than stability and grip, but if speed were all that mattered, XC riders would just race in road shoes. Mavic's Crossride SL Elite Women's Cycling Shoes blend the lightness of a road shoe with the grip of a trail-specific shoe to provide you with the snappy power transfer you need to keep spinning the pedals quickly--all without being flimsy when the singletrack takes a turn from buttery towards rough. Mavic trusts a traditional upper design for the Crossride SL Elites, equipping them to be durable enough to withstand brushes with trail furniture while adding airy mesh paneling to ensure they remain breathable. Two hook-and-loop straps work with an Ergo Ratchet buckle to allow you to achieve a secure fit that ensures reliable power transfer without creating pressure points along the top of your foot, while an Ergo Fit 3D Ortholite insole provides cushioning along the bottom of your foot to keep you comfortable on longer rides. When you're pedaling, the fiberglass-reinforced nylon Energy Grip Terra Outsole delivers your valuable watts efficiently to the pedals, while its Contagrip rubber lugs give you the confidence to venture off the XC race course and onto the trails, providing traction during sticky situations or impromptu detours to take in hard-won views.

Pearl Izumi ELITE Road IV Shoe - Women's Pearl Izumi ELITE Road IV Shoe - Women's
If you've spent any amount of time cramming your feet into sport-specific shoes, you probably don't have happy feet. Bumps, bony protrusions, lost nails, and any amount of imperfect toes are your evidence of staying active. We can't speak for the other shoes and boots you use, but fortunately, the cycling industry continues to unveil lighter, more flexible options every year. Pearl Izumi's 2016 line is evidence of that trend, and its Elite Road IV Women's Shoe sits in the upper echelon of its road shoe offerings, with a carbon sole and an upper that will embrace, rather than constrict, your feet. The Elite Road IVs' sleek shape comes courtesy of its synthetic upper, which Pearl constructs using fully bonded seaming to accommodate a variety of foot shapes. With the absence of overlays and excess material, the top of the shoe manages to remain incredibly light, allowing air to move freely so that your feet stay dry and comfortable with less likelihood of chafing on hot days. The position of the BOA dial on the top allows for bi-directional closure, pulling the fabric evenly from each side for a customizable fit that reduces the risk of pressure points or a numb instep, and the single hook-and-loop strap achieves a customized fit around your toes. Pearl clearly spent some time dialing in the fit of the Elite Road IV, and it ensured its efforts weren't wasted by including a full carbon sole with all of the rigidity and efficient power transfer you'll need for racing and hard training efforts. Vents along the sole allow it to drain water and maintain airflow without compromising stiffness, and Pearl's Longitudinal Arch Support helps your foot move as efficiently as possible and get the most power transfer out of the shoe.

Pearl Izumi Elite Road V5 Cycling Shoe - Women's Pearl Izumi Elite Road V5 Cycling Shoe - Women's
If you're looking for an upgrade from your worn, nylon-soled road shoes, but aren't crazy about paying pro-level prices when you're footing the bill yourself, consider the Pearl Izumi Women's Elite Road V5 Cycling Shoe. Aimed at self-sponsored cyclists who log serious miles, on their own or in races, the Elite Road V5 doesn't sacrifice on much compared to Pearl's top-end P. R. O. Leader Shoe, but it'll leave a little something left in your wallet for race fees and future upgrades this season. Brand new this year, the Elite Road V5 comes with a newer unibody construction, which eschews the traditional lasting board in favor of an integrated carbon sole. While this construction method allows the shoe to achieve an admirably low weight at 240g, its greater purpose is positioning your feet as close to the pedals so that the uncompromisingly stiff carbon fiber sole is able to whisk power to the pedals almost instantly. On top of the shoe, a Boa dial and hook-and-loop strap position the breathable bi-directional uppers as close to your foot as possible for a secure, second skin fit that leaves no room for slipping or pressure points on your all-day rides.

Pearl Izumi Race Road IV Cycling Shoe - Women's Pearl Izumi Race Road IV Cycling Shoe - Women's
As a mid-tier cycling shoe, Pearl Izumi's Race Road IV Women's Shoe is an impressive option whether you're upgrading from your first pair of entry-level shoes or making the commitment to go clipless. The Race Road IV's sleek, streamlined design, seamless upper, and efficient BOA and hook-and-loop closure resemble shoes twice its price, and its sole is compatible with both standard three-bolt road cleats and two-bolt mountain cleats. Road, off-road, spin class -- the Race Road IV can accommodate cleats for whatever pedal style you prefer. Much of the Race Road IV's sleek, streamlined aesthetic comes from its 3D Seamless Print Upper, which is all-new for Pearl Izumi this year. The upper relies on a web of bonded seaming that gives the shoe far more flexibility than heavier seamed uppers while still maintaining a close, contoured shape overall. These types of uppers are far less likely to cause hot spots and pressure points, and their breathability helps prevent chafing and blisters from perspiring feet receiving no ventilation. The positioning of the BOA dial in the middle of the shoe allows you to tighten each side of the upper incrementally to ensure you get a fit that gives you responsive power transfer without numb toes. On the underside of the shoe, Pearl constructs the forefoot with rigid, efficient carbon fiber, then uses a durable composite along the rest of the outsole, providing the promise of power transfer when you need it without a full-carbon-inflated price. Other touches like a soft Select Insole and an EVA foam and rubber heel bumper provide extra support and comfort during longer rides and when you're navigating the coffee shop line.

While many mountain bike shoes force riders to choose between stiff power transfer and comfortable walkability, the Pearl Izumi Women's X-Project 3. 0 Cycling Shoes bring you the best of both worlds. They provide the powerful energy transfer of a fully rigid carbon fiber sole, without reducing its ability to grip over rough terrain and flex in the right places when you're walking over impassable trail obstacles. To achieve this balance, Pearl Izumi outfits this shoe with a full-length carbon fiber sole plate that's tapered to provide just enough flex when you're walking and hiking over trail obstacles and loose dirt surfaces while still allowing the efficient power transfer needed for rapid acceleration and quick uphill bursts. Run-shoe EVA foam placed under the heel dissipates impact and alleviates discomfort when you're hiking over craggy, rock-strewn trails. Pearl Izumi X-Alp Launch II Mountain Bike Shoe - Women's Pearl Izumi X-Alp Launch II Mountain Bike Shoe - Women's
You never know exactly where you're heading when you start a ride, so if having a shoe you know can handle off-trail wanderings and new routes is important to you, we'd take a look at the Pearl Izumi Women's X-Alp Launch II Mountain Bike Shoe. Light and responsive on quick after-work rides with your girlfriends, but rugged enough to handle long, rambling weekend rides, the X-Alp Launch II makes an ideal companion as you improve. Pearl wisely starts with synthetic bonded uppers, which come devoid of any traditional seaming. This allows the shoe to adapt to a wide range of foot shapes, and cuts down on the likelihood of hot spots or pressure points interrupting your ride. We're fans of the BOA dial and hook-and-loop strap lacing system; the BOA dial gives you nearly unlimited control of fit around your instep, while the strap addresses fit around your toes. Underneath the shoe, you'll have a cushy EVA midsole providing all-day comfort, partnered with a carbon-reinforced composite shank that will ensure you get the power transfer you need on steep, unforgiving climbs. Pearl Izumi X-Project 2.0 Shoe - Women's Pearl Izumi X-Project 2.0 Shoe - Women's
Borrowing from its top-tier mountain shoe, Pearl Izumi created the X-Project 2. 0 Women's Shoe to offer a slightly more wallet-friendly option for the self-sponsored rider, which features the same carbon sole as its pricier sibling and requiring few sacrifices for its more palatable price. Aimed at riders who need light, responsive shoes with a tread that won't leave them struggling through run-ups and barrier hopping, the X-Project 2. 0 makes a worthwhile 'cross or XC investment. Pearl Izumi starts with a synthetic upper that achieves its streamlined, contoured fit with the use of heat-bonded seaming rather than traditional stitched seams. This translates to a breathable and flexible upper that's far less likely to create hot spots or pressure points. The bi-directional closure system gathers equally from each side, further contributing to the shoes' tailored fit and allowing you to dial in the precise fit that will work for you without ending up with numb feet halfway through a race. Within the shoe, Pearl Izumi's 1:1 Insole System provides arch support specified to the left and right foot, while an EVA foam heel -- borrowed from softer, springier running shoe technology -- helps absorb impact when you're forced off the bike to run through a challenging, rock-laced section of trail. Underneath the shoe, the power transfer you count on in a race is delivered via a full-length tapered carbon fiber plate, which manages to dutifully deliver watts to the pedals while remaining forgiving enough for you to hike or run with. The rugged outsole, built with durable rubber tips on hollow TPU lugs, adds significant traction but very little weight to the shoe all-together.

Pearl Izumi X-Project Elite Mountain Bike Shoe - Women's Pearl Izumi X-Project Elite Mountain Bike Shoe - Women's
Mountain bike shoes often have to sacrifice on something. To be comfortable for all-day wear, they lose snappiness, but to be responsive on the XC course, they often give up traction on more technical hike-a-bike sections. If you've been getting around this by keeping multiple pairs of shoes in your garage, let us offer an alternative. The Pearl Izumi Women's X-Project Elite Mountain Bike Shoe comes with the lightness of an XC race shoe, and the attitude of a trail shoe that wants to go out adventuring on after your race is over. An EVA foam heel delivers extra cush when you hopping off and on the bike during all-day soujourns, and the breathable three-layer uppers come free of overlays for a fit that won't start to feel restricting when a few wrong turns extend your ride.

Scott Road Pro Lady Shoe - Women's Scott Road Pro Lady Shoe - Women's
If you're looking to trade out the platforms and upgrade your road ride to clipless, trust the Scott Women's Road Pro Lady Shoe to help you make the transition cleanly. While the Road Pro Lady won't promise to stop you from tipping over in the grass a few times while you get the hang of things, it'll quickly illustrate just how fast you can ride when your shoes are working with you. Sure, the minimal running kicks you usually ride with are airy and light, but they're also not all that supportive. In contrast, the Road Pro Lady manages to blend support without sacrificing breathability. Scott shapes the uppers with a combination of mesh and microfiber that conform willingly to the topography of your feet. The uppers then close via two hook-and-loop straps and a ratcheting buckle, which allow you to adjust tightness along the entire length of your foot. Once you're confidently pedaling, rejoice in the stiffness of the Road Pro Lady's nylon sole. While you marvel at how you ever put up with flexible old running shoes in the saddle for so long, the soles will deliver snappy power transfer whether you're on a century or your favorite local loop.

Scott Road RC Lady Shoe - Women's Scott Road RC Lady Shoe - Women's
Expand your list of QOMs, throw down in the Saturday county line sprint, and confidently toe the start line in the Scott Women's Road RC Lady Shoes. While these shoes make some sacrifices in stiffness and closure technology compared to the top-end Men's Road RC, they also come in at a more budget friendly price point and offer a stiff sole and near-custom fit to keep your feet cool and comfortable. Scott utilizes a strategic mix of lightweight microfiber and 3D nylon air mesh to build the Road RC's upper around its Wrap Fit construction. Wrap Fit consists of an internal layer of synthetic leather that provides extra support while conforming to your foot shape to reduce pressure points and increase comfort. In contrast to the men's Road RC's full BOA IP1 closure system, Scott outfits the Road RC Lady with a cross strap held in place by a BOA IP1 closure across the top of the shoe and two hook-and-loop straps to secure the midfoot and forefoot. As you'll find in all of Scott's top-line shoes, an Adjustable ErgoLogic removable insole provides a customizable arch for additional tweaks to the Road RC Lady's support and fit. The Road RC Lady features an HMX carbon fiber sole similar to the men's version of the shoe, but it offers a stiffness level of nine in contrast to the level ten found on the men's side. While this sole is still lightweight and stiff enough to transfer power in a flash, if you're looking for top-of-the-line stiffness and the security of a full BOA closure it may be worthwhile to check out the sizing options available in the Men's Road RC Shoe.

Shimano SH-MT3W Cycling Shoe - Women's Shimano SH-MT3W Cycling Shoe - Women's
Though they're not the stiffest, lightest, or most technically flashy shoes in Shimano's line, the SH-MT300 Women's Cycling Shoes do make the perfect tool for the recreational or bikepacking cyclist looking for something that stands up to cycling abuse but blends in during pedestrian stretches off the bike. Since it's compatible with two-bolt cleats, features the casual-look security of laces, and is finished downstairs with a lugged, rubber outsole, the SH-MT300 meets those needs--even if you choose to weaponize them during high-intensity spin class intervals. While on the bike, the stiffer-than-sneakers sole transmits power while doing more to absorb trail chatter and road noise than stripped-down, super-stiff carbon soles. Off the bike, the sole's engineered flex and recessed cleat construction help facilitate walking. The lugs also provide traction so every convenience store floor or dirt trail doesn't become an ice skating rink. The synthetic uppers are secured with laces, which have proven their utility on everything from mountaineering boots to the latest generation of road race shoes because they provide five points of contact per side for a more customized fit.

Sidi Drako Shoe - Women's Sidi Drako Shoe - Women's
The Sidi women's Drako SRS Push Shoes aren't for most cyclists. Hell, they're not even for most racers. They're for the competitive ladies whose engines outstrip virtually every other shoes on the market, the cyclists who want to have the same confidence in their gear as they do in their legs. The women's Drako SRS is built on the same platform that first made its name under the likes of Absalon in the men's racing world. The only difference is that the last in the women's version is sized down to fit more slender feet. In short, when you're ready to race at the highest level of competition, the women's Drako SRS Push will be ready to accompany you. The shoes feature Sidi's newly improved Tecno 3 Push fastener. Like its predecessor, the Tecno 3 Push system involves two ratcheting dials, Sidi's proprietary, non-stretch wire, and a customizable fit at the instep and forefoot. The Push in the shoes' title refers to the incorporation of a red button on the buckles' faces that releases the ratchet's lever for quick adjustment, saving you the onerous task of flipping the lever up yourself. At ride's end, pinching two release buttons on either side of the dial loosens the wire. As with all of Sidi's fastening hardware, you can easily fiddle with the Tecno 3 Push buckles in the saddle. The Drako's SRS Carbon Ground Sole and replaceable cleat wear plate return unchanged. This sole shaves 100 grams off its predecessor's weight without sacrificing comfort, efficiency, or durability. The sole comprises a medium-modulus carbon body supplemented with SRS tread blocks and a cleat wear plate, the latter two of which are replaceable. Using a medium-modulus carbon as the base provides a slight flex along the length of the foot with no compromise to the overall rigidity of the sole, a delicate but necessary balance for top-level off-road shoes. Sidi's Heel Security System (HSS) also makes an encore appearance, using an adjustable, rigid composite band that closes the shoe more ...

Sidi Level Carbon Shoes - Women's Sidi Level Carbon Shoes - Women's
The Sidi women's Level Carbon Shoes attach the brand's most popular shoe technologies to a last sized specifically for smaller feet. From the synthetic uppers to the classic ratcheting buckle and Millennium 4 soles, the Level effectively brings the best of the top-tier to a self-sponsored price point. The Level Carbon features Sidi's beloved ratcheting buckle for retention. You're no doubt familiar with its micro-adjustment operation, which lets you vary strap pressure for the perfect fit, every time. The mid- and forefoot fit is managed by a pair of standard Sidi hook-and-loop straps so you can vary pressure across the length of your foot. The Millennium 4 Carbon Composite outsole is a nylon matrix shot through with carbon fiber, blending weight, stiffness, and price in a sole that's as ready to race as it is to spin through a charity ride century. It also resists warping due to humidity, heat, and age, so you'll be wearing the Level Shoes long after you've worn out and replaced the heel pad. If you've ever lost a buckle to a crash, then you'll also be happy to know that all of the shoes' fastening hardware is also replaceable. The uppers' synthetic material is water-repellent, quick-drying, and breathable as well as abrasion- and mildew-resistant for comfort that lasts throughout your ride. It also resists stretching, so the precise fit of the fastening buckle won't be compromised during long days and hard efforts.

Sidi Wire Carbon Air Push Shoes - Women's Sidi Wire Carbon Air Push Shoes - Women's
The women's Carbon Air Push Shoes feature the same sole, upper material, and 360-degree retention systems as the models we've seen worn by the likes of Sagan, Martin, Froome -- the list goes on. The only difference is that the last is Sidi's "tapered" women's version, so the shoe fits slimmer across the metatarsals, instep, and heel. The aim is to prevent cyclists with petite feet from drowning in their shoes -- after all, this is a top-tier race model, so we expect the fit to be so spot on as to virtually disappear once the shoes are in place. Regardless of the last design, Sidi's fit is legendary, but its aesthetics are just as important to the brand's longstanding reign at the top of the industry. The high-gloss Lorica Vernice upper is largely responsible for that high-fashion status, and the women's Carbon Air updates it with myriad perforations, adding a little retro-sneaker style and ventilation to the venerable material. The redesigned Tecno-3 Push system is another update to the classic Sidi silhouette. The whole system involves two ratcheting dials, Sidi's proprietary, non-stretch monofilament wire, and a customizable fit at the instep and forefoot. The Push in the buckles' title refers to the incorporation of a red button on the unit that releases the ratchet's lever for quick adjustment, saving you the onerous task of flipping the lever up yourself. At ride's end, pinching two release buttons on either side of the dial loosens the wire. As with all of Sidi's fastening hardware, you can easily fiddle with the Tecno 3 Push buckles in the saddle. The women's Carbon Air also sees a return of Sidi's superlative vented carbon fiber sole. It shares the same construction method that Sidi developed with its Carbon Lite sole, yet it relegates the "Lite" model to the heavy bin by losing an additional 38g with no corresponding loss of stiffness. The weight loss may be due to the negative space of the vents, which shuttle cooling air into interior channels. The ve...
