Simms ExStream Fleece Gloves
By Scott Clayton

Fly fishing with gloves on is like having a conversation with someone with your hands over your ears. You can hear but the words are often muffled and you have to constantly strain to keep up. Gloves make it difficult to feel the line and rod, both of which decrease your ability to detect fish. Cold hands, however, are worse, because they not only decrease dexterity, they can be painful. While I've used gloves that allow me to continue fishing through cold temperatures, Simms ExStream fleece gloves do the job quite comfortably.

Simms ExStreamÆ Fleece Gloves
Simms ExStreamÆ Fleece gloves are made with Polartec 200/300 BiPolarTM Series fleece that has excellent wicking properties and features a durable, water-repellent finish. They have a three fingerless, two fingered design which means only critical fingers are exposed.

The ExStream fleece are the most comfortable gloves I've worn for cold weather fishing. The fingerless fingers expose just the tips of the thumb, index, and middle finger. This provides maximum warmth while allowing the dexterity required to strip line and easily tie on a fly. The palm area is extra thin giving enough protection to keep the hand warm and still remaining comfortable while holding a rod for extended periods of time. As with all fleece, once these gloves get wet they stay wet, but while wet they keep your hands warm. If you happen to immerse your gloves in water, the quickest way to get most of the water out is to take them off and wring them out.

Simms ExStream fleece gloves are available in black and come Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large sizes. They retail for $29.95.

Summary:
Simms ExStream fleece gloves do an excellent job protecting hands from the elements. The thin layer over the palm is the most comfortable glove for the rod hand. The fingerless fingers cover all but the very tips of your digits, the parts necessary for line control or tying on a fly. If you fish anytime from the brisk days of late November thru the Spring thaw, the warmth and comfort provided by these gloves make them a must have.
